Of course it depends on how teachers use it, whether it loses value or not. Besides that though, I feel gimmicky would apply to something that is being used to teach because of the hype but really doesn't add value. While Minecraft is a very hyped up game, it does not lack the learning tool that makes it great for using to teach.
When I look at how many people are motivated to understanding coding so they can manipulate there own game, I can't see that as anything but good. I'm sure that is just one aspect of how Minecraft Education is used. Sure, if children are expected to get an education because its all about getting a good job so one can make money (where the focus is just on making money) then maybe its bad. Yet from that perspective what makes it "bad" is simply that children are not motivated to learn because of money, or this pressure to get a high paying job to afford all the luxuries adults want. Which if you think about it, affording those luxuries are so that you can be happier.
So I can't see how it is bad if something that someone enjoys teaches them a valuable skill, even if there motivation is in learning that skill to enjoy the game more (ie focusing on there happiness). I honestly think that is the best reason ever to learn something anyway!
Most adults have it all wrong and most adults are pretty unhappy with there lives. They spend a lot of time miserable for those 2 weeks vacation per year. I suspect this teacher things happiness comes second, and I just can't get on board with that. I love that Minecraft Education adds more fun while teaching, because life is really about being happy and having fun, and you can't find a better way to learn, or even a more important reason to learn.

This is a survival island seed, you spawn on a small island in the middle of the ocean with an ocean monument next to you. Its also great because I include tons of coordinates, including 12 shipwrecks and 7 underwater ruins
