    J have a problem.
I installed optine and i have black screen ;[
    J delete META_INF
    Use mcpatcher 2.2.2

    And here error:

    Sorry for bad english.

Don't use MCPatcher. Optifine already has Better Grass and HD Textures, so you don't really need MCPatcher.

I'm seeing a lot of misinformation in the past couple of pages, so here's a bit of a lesson.

Perceivable framerate varies from person to person, much like audio fidelity. Just as most people can't hear a quality difference in MP3s above 192kbps, there are still some who can. Maybe they've trained themselves, maybe they were just born that way, but there are some people who can tell the difference. Framerate is the same way. The average person can't perceive a difference in quality above 60fps, but that doesn't mean nobody can. Generally, though, most monitors won't display more than 60fps anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

That being said, there is one reason that a higher framerate is desirable even for those who can't see it, or whose monitors can't show more: Vsync. Vsync delays outputting a frame until the next screen refresh, which prevents tearing and tends to make the game look better and motion a bit smoother. This caps the framerate to whatever the monitor's refresh rate is. The problem is, if the framerate dips under 60 while Vsync is on, it'll be cut to 30 (although some apps may still report as 45-55, because they are reporting what's being rendered internally rather than what's actually being displayed).

That's where ridiculously high framerates come into play. If you're rendering at around 60fps without Vsync, then dips will be very noticeable. In such cases, it's often better to leave it off, since when you get low enough that most people can perceive the difference, you wanna push out as many frames as possible. If you're consistently getting 300+ fps, though, you can cap it to 60 with Vsync (or even 120 if your screen supports it), keep as smooth an image as possible, and even when the game has to do something more demanding won't drop so many frames that it'll dip below the cap that was set.

tl;dr - Even if you can't actually see more than 60fps, it's not at all useless to be able to render that much if you can force Vsync.

To put all the rumors to rest, here is more info:
The biggest problem was that merging some parts of OptiFine in Minecraft (what Mojangs needs) is going to take some time that I do not have. It has to compete with my work and my family and this is where the compensation part comes in. It will also split the OptiFine development in two parts, one based on the official source code and one based on the MCP sources. This is more than I can handle currently. But not all is lost, I still hope that we can come to common grounds and I can start developing OptiFine with the official Minecraft source.

Thank you for a clear answer. :biggrin.gif: It is then, as I suspected, not selfishness on anybody's part, but simply that agreeable terms couldn't be found.

It was getting really irritating that people kept trying to place blame on one party or the other without knowing the whole story, and just making assumptions about what Jeb meant. Nothing like jumping to conclusions to interfere with more important things.

You're the one being selfish, saying that sp614x doesnt deserver compensation for the hard work hes put in. If it wasnt for sp614x you wouldnt have this mod.

It's hard to tell if Mojang or sp614x is being selfish in this case, without knowing the details of what each of them wanted. It's possible Mojang didn't wanna pay and sp614x wouldn't give it away free, but it's also possible that Mojang wanted to pay something reasonable and sp614x got greedy and demanded more. We don't know what each side asked for, there hasn't been any public clarification on the matter, so it's really impossible to know who (if anybody) is being selfish.

The new AA version causes a bit of a framerate hit, but that was to be expected. Still, with AA and AF both on 4, I'm consistently getting 30-60 fps, which is perfectly playable, and it looks gorgeous in the process.

And none of the bugs such as those weird horizontal lines that my GTS 250 gets if you try to force AA in the driver control panel!

    Thanks for the update, sp614x!

Would it be possible to add an option that makes Better Grass work only for grass, and not for snow? It gets a bit confusing when dirt covered with snow looks the same as snow blocks.

Is a random disappearing of random little chunks of world aa bug but they reappear when I place a block into the invisible part.
    I'm using Optifine 1.8.1 HD MT A.
    Please Help!

MT version does not play nice with some graphics cards. Use Smooth or Classic, until it's fixed.

Ugh, maybe its just my browser, but each download site has 5 different download buttons. Why can't it just be a simple Mediafire download? Other than that, used it in the past, and it greatly helped.

Because in addition to going through ad.fly, the sharing sites he uses also give revenue. Mediafire does not.

While using optifine I get texture flickering many times i do something like: opening/closing a door, pressing a button, pressing a pressure pad.
Also the flickerings are not texture pack dependent, they happen on every pack.
I tried tweaking with the settings with no use. I have no other mods installed, just vanilla minecraft + latest optifine.

    Is this a known issue?
    What am I doing wrong?

Note: the flickerings do not happen if I use mcpatcher for hd support instead of optifine.

This problem seems to happen with the latest MT version. I recommend Optifine Classic or Smooth, until this is fixed.

make a _s_mt version (it has both in it)

That's not even possible. They both optimize the same things in different, mutually exclusive ways.

Doing both at once would be akin to sorting a list in alphabetical and reverse alphabetical order at the same time; either is possible on its own, and either way makes it easier to find things in the list than if they're unsorted, but they are inherently different and incompatible with each other.

Is there a way for server owners to disable DDoS protection? One of my friends has a crappy connection that tends to trigger it when he's on the server list?

Ok So I got OptiFine HD SA to work.. but I had to not install HDPatcher, which is a conflict of interest.. I am not sure which is more important to me.. Right now I am using Optifine, Zombe, REI MiniMap, TooManyItems, and SinglePlayerCMDS without a blackscreen, but i might have to swtich to my HDPatcher version because I love my non-default texturepacks

Optifine supports HD texture packs already. No need for HDPatcher.

Nah all Nvidia cards can do it (I have GTX470). If it doesn't work then you're not doing it right.
    These settings:
    (a bunch of pictures)

Yes, the cards can be told to force AA and AF. However, on many NVIDIA cards it causes crazy artifacts, white lines over things, visible grids between blocks, etc. The option is there, it works, but it doesn't work CORRECTLY on all systems.

What would be the point of this?

Presumably because nothing will have necessarily changed since the previous backup, so the extra backup just wastes space and hdd writes.
