I honestly would not recommend hosting a server on your own computer.
The fact that you are worried about safety makes it seem like you want to make a public server that is up 24/7, not just a quick server for you and a few friends to play on.
If that's the case, an actual host would be recommended.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to host a 24/7 server on your own computer, but why even try? It's doubtful that your computer would be able to keep up with a Minecraft server unless it's a decent computer. Also, your internet connection definitely comes into play. Don't forget that.

Um, i made an account for the edencraft.me (the newer forums) and i had to wait 3 days for an email, then i was banned from posting anything on there. So i cant appeal. McBans won't let me appeal, i dont know how to get around them.
Another thing, all i did was ask for ranks and "spam chat" i put quotes there because it wasnt like i was typing give me ranks quickly with autotyper. I don't see how its fair to ban me for that. I understand a mute or a jail for several hours, but not a ban and no chance of pardon. If i griefed, then sure. Ban me. But i didnt, i just kept asking for ranks as i was confused with something and i guess i worded it wrong. Please re-consider the ban. Btw, what and who are the authorities? Is it like mojang or is it just lefty. I am going to check again within 2 hours (around 10 in usa time) please respond by then. If not by then, then soon after, as i check less during the week.

Hey, for some reason its not letting me on server. It says either "Cant connect to server" or "Comunication error".
I've typed in the Correct ip like 500 times.
I dont think ive been kicked i havent done anything.
I have been on the server before.
When i log in on comunication error, it just stays on logging in and then after a while it says something like "Java.net." then some other stuff.

I'm Australian and want to have a server for me and maybe 6 to 12 other Aussies max just for me and a few friends to mess around and build stuff.
Would like it to be easy to set up (as a 15 year old friend will be the main one handling that stuff) and be able to take mods that for example stop creepers blowing up and stuff like that.
I am on a low income so can't afford things like $50 a month lol. But that being said it must have a decent latency for Aussies. We all live in Sydney I think. We also would like to upload our own map that we already started on a Hamachi network server so we don't have to start over if that is even possible.
