Where are all of the anti-griefs elme said there were? Such an amazing server with such amazing structures and users is getting griefed and hacked to hell. The hacker destruction of the sky house was just disgusting.
Griefers are one things, but hackers? Really?
I think the problem, AmbassadorArt, is that there really isn't much you can do about hackers or greifers unless a Mod is only and can bad / ipban them when they are there. This is why so many servers have whitelist only policies. There are many mods you can add that alert Mods when things happen, and many ways to disable the worst abuses (TNT, Lava, Flooding, fires), but nothing really stops a griefer from simply knocking down blocks or putting others up.
I have a couple of ideas:
1) Remove the notification about the warps to our towns and rename them. Give the warp names to people we trust. That way the main target hit will be spawn. I am using anti-grief building techniques near spawn like trees, low level decorative structures that are easy rebuilds like wood, cobble, flowers, etc, lotsa signs. Griefers love to play with signs for some reason "OOh shiny!" and it takes up their griefing time with something that is fixed pretty quick.
2) Alternately, keep the warp signs, but assign a new class of player like Citizen or Resident. [C] or [R] tags. Only allow warp to them or higher and grant the class based on having played a while and gotten the trust of the folks online.
<shrug> Ultimately when we have more players playing on more time slots we can keep people off simply by having a Mod on at most times. I'll try to keep the overnight clear (my timeslot) at least. :smile.gif:
Flema7726 griefed the lava hourglass, he also called me and stove niggers, after that he felt the need to say "I intend to get banned". You can read it in the chatlog for yourself
EDIT: He made a burning cross above rapture when he couldn't burn it he put torches instead
Nice. :sad.gif:
I hadn't been to Rapture before the cleanup this morning, so I didn't know what was and wasn't supposed to be there. I saw the cross and thought - Hmm, cool. I didn't know this server was this religious... I guess that is what rapture was referring to - cool.
I have mostly been altering what the griefers add to the server to just incorporate it. One put down a massive stone 10x10x20 solid block structure. I hollowed it out a bit and made it our welcome center with donation boxes for old tools and unwanted building materials. Looks good. :smile.gif: I need to go around and take screen shots of what the server looks like fixed so I can know what I am going back to when fixing things. Lol.
Ok, put in some paths at spawn, and a welcome center with donation boxes for newbies. Lit it up with underground lighting. Let me know what you think all. If people like it, I can build some roads around to people's houses by spawn.
The main Minecraft server which takes care of verifying users and servers is under a dDOS attack at the moment. It is up and down because of that. Local users should still be able to get on, but anyone connecting from another IP won't be able to until this ends or gets managed.
Thanks sinn! I can just put flowers in it though, make it a planter so that there won't be water nearby. :smile.gif:
Thanks for the vote Elme. Sinn: Is there anything I can do to help you make your decision?
Ok, got the spawn mostly picked up again. Thanks big time Wednesday14 for the help!
Added some flower beds, some trees (they discourage griefing by being in the way without looking out of place). a fountain (can't seem to get water to work though!). I repurposed some houses that were blasted and hadn't been repaired for days. I made one a public furnace area (had about 60 extra furnaces after the last grief attack). Fixed the welcome sign.
If someone could get water flowing in the fountain that would be awesome. Otherwise I am going to hit the area behind spawn next if I can where another house was hit next. Then, back to mining obsidian!
Lagged out. Maybe went offline.
I started getting big lag then I dropped to reconnect to clear it maybe. Now I can't get back in - timeouts. Sounds like the server reset/went down.
Wednesday14 - I owe you a stack of coal! I won't forget, don't worry. Thanks for helping me clear the clutter at spawn.
I gave it a shot Sinn, I'll see what happens. It seems like such a nice server it just seems like such a shame it has been getting so hit lately. I also haven't been seeing that the mods are having time to clean up what happens, which is understandable as we all have lives and the grief has been pretty extensive. I figure that, since I like to help and have time, I could be helpful. I completely understand if Elme would rather wait and see how I am for a bit longer and/or just doesn't need the additional help at the moment.
Ok, every time I log on there is major, major grief just having had occurred. I am online during the evenings here (USA) and I am willing to clean stuff up, but I am not going to mine out huge hunks of obsidian/furnaces/etc... without some mod tools. Do you have the setup for mods here with the modstick add on? Its an item that allows you to 1-click delete blocks. Makes grief cleanup real quick.
Ok, Steavo and I just did some major fixing around spawn tonight. The whole place got tore up it looked like. I apologize if I 'fixed' something that was your creation, but the entire area just looked trashed. I filled in the random pits all over with dirt - grass should grow back nicely now. I put some serious time into getting rid of all of the flooded areas. Those are good now. SteaveO and I fixed up the bridge as best we could. I left the tower of lava into the person's house. I don't know if that was legit or not, but it wasn't going to be an easy fix and I didn't want to rip it down if it wasn't grief.
Coolio Beans. Hope everyone likes the repairs. Let me know if there are any other griefed areas and I'll try to fix them back up.
Also - I spent about 8 hours now mining obsidian in my obsidian factory. Got multiple, multiple stacks of obs to start my tower. Please don't mod blast it without talking to me. It really is legit and mined even though that is a lot of obsidian. I'll be on mining more in the next few days if anyone wants some.
Lol. You were on during that tirade as well, eh? Yeah - I wasn't pleased by that.
I fully respect the authority of the admins, and the right of the server owners to set whatever rules they want, but the things he was saying in the chat channel were so offensive that I have decided to quit the server.
It was fun all, and I had a good time building with everyone. The server and the people were great. Best to all.
sorry i was just really confused
also please tell me EXACTLY what i have to type to get in
I think the problem you are having is that you are not using the teamspeak program. You have to download a sep program called teamspeak: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads and then enter the IP, port, and password information into the fields when you run it and select connect.
Then you will be connected to a voice chat lobby with some of the other folks on the server who have done the same setup. It is not connected with the minecraft software at all - you could actually run teamspeak and chat with people without playing the minecraft game at the same time.
for some reason, whenever i type in 66.150.164.151:9987 to go into teamspeak, it says connection refused: connect. Why the hell can't i go on the teamspeak server!?!?!
Are you using the password? It is right under the teamspeak IP
Request for peeps building up the super towers and castles and all:
Please, please, please plan for people to be walking places when you build. I hadn't been back to spawn in a while and tried to recently walk someone back to my place from there and I am finding that it is really hard to get through a lot of the map due to people building high walls completely walling off certain directions of travel.
I am not saying every direction needs easy roads, but I don't want to have to build a cobble column just to get over some giant structure without a good way around it. All I need is a little 1 block pathway at the edge of your building and your neighbor's building. :smile.gif:
Thanks!
Corwyn
Very good idea Corwyn... I think we should have a certain group that focuses on building/maintaining the roads
We can build if we want to
We should leave some roads behind
'Cause your roads aren't built and if they are not built,
I will blow your **** up
I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the road far behind
And we can build
We can build if we want to
We can bring some friends along
But be careful of who you show your land to
Otherwise your stuff is ****ed
I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave spawn far behind
And we can build
Bui¨¦ld!
We can go when we want to
The night is young and so am I
And we can build real neat with a vision to our beat
And surprise 'em with a giant wall
Say, we can act if want to
If we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude and be quickly removed
And I can act like an imbecile
I say, we can build, we can build
Everything in my control
We can build, we can build
We're doing it from wall to wall
We can build, we can build
Everybody look at your hands
We can build, we can build
Everybody takin' the cha-a-a-ance
Safely built
Is it safe to build
Is it safe to build
This is so freakin funny I can barely stand it! :smile.gif:
