Raynbow posted a message on Why do so many guys choose anime girls as their profile pictures?Posted in: General Off Topic
He*Quote from VossMaster
So? Then why ask Trippledot why she has a dragon as her avatar.
"Why do so many girls have dragons as their avatar?"
Men can choose what image they like as their avatar. It should be decided by others that they can not have an avatar of the opposite sex.
I seriously don't understand the assumption that girl avatar = user is a girl
(Most) men like girls.
You expect people to put things that they like up as an avatar.
In my case, I like the character Tomoyo, and I like girls, so I put this as my avatar. It also looks nice.
Why is this considered weird? Keep in mind that a person's avatar does not specifically define the person, maybe a part of their likes and interests, but nothing more.
Besides, it's not all that easy to find a nice male anime character for an avatar, since I prefer girls.
Tl;dr,
Quote from Sgt. Traveler
We choose our avatars because for the most part we like the picture, let alone the character in it. It doesn't really has to reflect you, just what you like.
No, it's really more like this: If you see a person with a female avatar, you assume them to be male, in fact, you assume everyone to be male by default, then work from there.Quote from SilverMx
Exactly! It's confusing and weird. When you see someone with a girl avatar, you expect them to be a girl

CBA222 posted a message on Teaching Creationism is Child AbuseWell, child abuse?Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
That's a bit exxagerated. Seems like a poor attempt to discredit Christianity.
Seriously, call Creationism false, there's no need to label it as child abuse. I assure you most Christians love their children very much as you do and want the best for them. You're trying to take Creationism and bend it into a bad thing. It's not. It's simply a belief, that you can choose to believe or not to believe.
Using your way of writing, I could say science is child abuse cause it distracts them from their family. Seriously, that claim has no basis at all. This is outrageous.
I'm a Christian, but I don't use my time to discredit scientific theories with such words as "child abuse". I would just say it's false, never try to make it negative. That's really very sad of you. Say it's false, don't brand it as something it isn't. Creationism are just people's beliefs.
And anyways, your impact is grossly overstated. I know a ton of people who are Christians and are very much intelligent and successful. My dad is one, and he has a Ph.D and has started his own successful company.
We want our children to have correct information, is that wrong?
Just one problem there. You assume that science is correct. That's a huge oversight on your part. You can not just assume science holds the correct answer. Despite the scientific method, it's very possible that God exists and the Bible is true. Perhaps not as obvious and not as much evidence, but still possible. You're not entitled to assume science is correct and make "child abuse" claims on that(that statement goes to the OP). Maybe God just put those fossils to trick us, would you know? No you wouldn't. Both beliefs could be true, and it is not up to you to decide which one is false.
Anyways, who said the bible says the Earth is only 6,000 years old. It is the most commonly accepted idea, yes, but those seven days could have been millions of years long. You never know. -

Nowadays, it's pretty hard to be Christian and stay that way, with everyone bashing it so much. Mostly it's because they're a bunch of *insert insult(s) here*.
You mean a bunch of 12 year olds 'bashing it' on Reddit? Boo hoo, look what the Jews have gone through and they still exist. Being insulted on the internet is not enough to destroy an entire religion (and I think you'll find atheists are 'bashed' a lot more in the US than vica versa, and Jews/Muslims more still).
Quote from Jesus »But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

If what you're saying is true, then the god you're describing is not one worth worshipping in my eyes. I'd like to worship a god that judges based on merit and whether they're a good person not on whether they worship their son for sacrificing himself. Hardly an admirable sacrifice if he punishes people eternally for not appreciating it is it?
Anyway heaven would not be heaven to me because none of those close to me would be there as they are all atheists or agnostics. I would rather suffer with them than be in heaven knowing that someone I love is being tortured eternally despite being a good, loving person.
Ah, but here's where your logic fails. Let's assume God is real, for a moment, and why he would judge you based on "worshipping his son".
He created us, gave us life and the Garden of Eden. Paradise on Earth. We could keep it and live in harmony as long as we didn't eat apples off the trees in the center of the garden. Unfortunately, we ate the apples and were cast out.
You see here? God gave us paradise, but we chose not to have it. We had a choice, but we made the wrong one. We were cast out, and doomed. Basically, we're all dead and seperated from God. Pretty bleak scenario.
But, Jesus comes down, sacrifices himself, and says if we believe in him we are saved and we don't have to pay for our sins. You seemed to have play down this part. You don't realize that God has extended his hand, a way for us to be saved, even if he didn't have to. You should be appreciating it completely.
Heaven? Uh, who wouldn't want it really? You can't start going around thinking you will know what Heaven will be like, you won't. All you know is that the Bible tells you be ultimately happy/bliss, and there will be no worries/remorse, etc. How God will do this is beyond humans' comphrension. You have absolutely no idea what heaven will be like. Whatever it's like, it will perfect and paradise, no remorse or sadness at all. That is not something you should be worried about.
But if you say, "well God isn't real and the Bible isn't true" and all that, then we're on completely different pages here. -

However, changing something because others feel uncomfortable makes me, well, uncomfortable.
We've been through this issue so many times that you could search through and find a couple of threads that have been over this point time and time again, I'll save you some effort though and tell you what it ultimately comes down to:
Minecraft is a game played by people of all ages, millions of those people are children, those children are subject to the rules and regulations set out by their parents. Many parents have a problem with profanity and will actively prevent their children from encountering it if they can. If Minecraft Forum has a reputation for profanity (which it did!) what will a good parent do? Prevent their child from using it! This isn't fair on those children.
The value that profanity provides does not and never will justify intentionally excluding large numbers of people from using this forum. If the lack of profanity makes you feel uncomfortable you're free to not use the forum, for the children with protective and proactive parents they have absolutely no choice.
I would rather 1000 people choose to leave the forum because of no profanity than 1 person be excluded because of unnecessary profanity usage. The profanity ban made the forum more accessible.
Whether profanity is bad or not has absolutely no bearing on the ban. I have no problem with profanity, I have no problem with pornography either, however parents of young children do have a problem with their children being exposed to them, so we've banned them to make the forum acceptable for children to use.
This is a forum, we don't exist to take a moral stand against the status quo and show parents how mistaken they are about profanity... we exist to let people talk about Minecraft, so that's what we're doing. - To post a comment, please login.

She was fine because instead of protecting myself, I protected her when we fell out. At the the time I was only thinking of her safety, and I completely didn't notice how much pain I was in after the crash. Most of my lower half was bleeding and my elbows were cut up and bruised, but because of the adrenaline of the situation, I didn't even notice until everything was okay.
I can be damn good brother sometimes.

I'm actually getting damn sick of hearing this any time this topic comes out. I understand wanting to make the site child friendly, but it's been made obvious it's not a need, it's a want, so stop saying that we are trying to imply it as a need.
Because it's not dirty.
