    hmod for "no building"
    McMyAdmin for "true whitelist"
    (Or both)

Thanks! I'm trying to avoid hmod because of the downgrade thing, but I may have to go that route.

I have a vanilla+runecraft server (I don't want to force people to downgrade), and I'm looking for a good permission and whitelist mod.

I want to restrict default users from building, mining, any sort of greifing, but still allow them to use switches, runes.

    Thanks!

Having not heard of any, I'm in the process of putting together a Myst-like server.

So far I have it running using Runecraft to allow for teleportation and other stuff.

I don't want to reinvent the wheel, so if you've heard of any server doing something like this please tell me!

I'm looking for a server that is primarily devoted to creating cool, Myst-like environments/structures. If I can't find a server that fits what I'm looking for I *could* potentially start one, though I'd much rather just contribute.

I like PvE, *some* PvP, but my goal is creation.

I'm an architect, and can make some serious contributions. Czech out what I've built so far here. Download the save, or watch the youtube videos. It's nothing too special, I haven't undertaken any serious architectural design yet.

    Switch majors!

Thanks for the tip though. I hope we just need to look harder, I don't want to pay to create stuff.

If worse comes to worse I suppose I could host my own, I have a small server, but that sounds like a huge hassle, and my connection isn't stellar.

Is this the best place to post, or should it be in the Seeking forum? That forum seemed to be for a different purpose..

If I had to pick a design precedent I'd ideally like to work on, think of the Myst series.[/url]

You can download the save here http://www.mediafire.com/file/x883p9p4o ... World1.rar

It's a neat save with a few fun components people might enjoy exploring. I'm embedding some youtube videos below of some of the features. When you enter the map you'll be inside the treehouse, which is linked by portals and boosted-minecarts in the Nether with the other major locations (with the purple outline on the map above). It's fast and easy to explore. The rar file linked above also contains a high res annotated map, so you can see things at block-level.

Features (in order of relative significance)
[*:1ur6xonk]Huge Treehouse - It's a big tree, about 70x70x70, there are a lot of fun things to do with it. Fast-transit portal. Large underground wheat farm. Apart from the other features it has mentioned below, it also has a lot of loot, a cute library, and vast amounts of space to build many rooms hidden in the canopy.

[*:1ur6xonk]Redstone Sign - Best seen from the top of the big tree, where one of two switches are. (the other switch is just south of the sign on the little hill)

[*:1ur6xonk]Boathouse - w/ switchable doors, 1 in the water. The boathouse is in the base of the Treehouse.

[*:1ur6xonk]Hidden Stair - Flip a hidden lever in the desert and a staircase appears at your feet. Just south of the Desert Lair. In the save it is "open", see the youtube video below to reset it (it's pretty easy).

[*:1ur6xonk]Floating Island - It's cute. It floats. It has a fast-transit portal. Connected by glass bridge just below cloud level to the Plinth and Treehouse.

[*:1ur6xonk] Plinth - Perfect location to build a cool castle or palace. Looks really sharp from the Floating Island.

[*:1ur6xonk]Mob Grinder - It's very large and efficient. If you leave your comp on overnight with the screen saver off, by morning your inventory will be completely full. If you just want 1 type of item, like arrows or sulfer, your inventory will be half full. The ideal camping location is marked if you enter from the Original Hidey Hole.

[*:1ur6xonk] Aimable Artillery - My first playing around with cannons (artillery really). It's just north of the Desert Lair. I was using it to remove a hill I didn't like in the skyline. The peak is gone but more to do. It can be aimed to the right by using TNT on the left of the propulsion stack. The propulsion and warhead charges aren't timed, I have two levers at the observation deck so I can manually adjust the timing. I think I have a couple of stacks of TNT left. Easy to get more at the Mob Grinder.

[*:1ur6xonk]Desert Lair. Fast-transit portal. In the middle of a large desert, perfect location for a desert palace. The hidden stair mentioned above is one of the two entrances.

[*:1ur6xonk]Cloud Pool - architectural feature at the top center-ish of the huge tree. It's a large square 21x21 room with a cloud-filled (at times) reflection pool and a framed view of the sun as it rises in the east. Primarily built of clay.

[*:1ur6xonk]Nether - I have a network of booster-powered minecarts that travel around the ceiling of the nether, linking all of the primary locations. Getting around is fast. Shooting gasts is fun. There are signs posted that indicate where each rail line goes, and the Treehouse and Desert Lair portals have trees and sand frames around each respectively. If you want to explore or harvest glowstone, there are a number of exists from the system at ground level.

[*:1ur6xonk]Original Hidey Hole - Nothing too special, though I do have a few large paintings, it's primarily a utilitarian space. Some expansions include my first and second towers, level 12 mine, small wheat farm. Enter here to get to the Mob Grinder camp point fastest. Underground connection with Spawn Point, which has a fast-transit portal.

[*:1ur6xonk]Underwater Room - Again not too special, but if you haven't seen one in person.. They are kind of a pain to make. Connected by tunnel to the Spawn Point.

[*:1ur6xonk]B1.2 Mine - I ventured to this part of the world after the big Beta 1.2 update in order to create a mine with new content (like lapis lazuli). It's connected by portal and powered mine carts to the other portaled areas, so you can get to a new mine from anywhere in the world very quickly.

EVERYTHING I build is in my first world. All the different areas are linked by boostered mine carts in the nether for quick travel.

I would really like to delete large parts of it though, to get new minerals without spending so much time traveling to the edge.

Thanks guys. And thanks Tuqui for showing me how to do embedded youtube videos.

Yeah, the single use is a pain, I can "reload" it in about 4 minutes. The game really needs more mechanical parts so we can make mechanisms like these.

You're alone in a vast desert. You notice a strange indent in the ground that doesn't look normal. You dig and it reveals a hidden lever. You pull the lever. Nothing happens. Suddenly the sand beneath your feet collapses to form a winding stair..

Although I didn't make this myself, a challenger appears:

That is an pretty damn impressive tree! Kudos to the creator. Unless he edits, then finger wag.

I *think* mine is bigger though (not that that determines awesomeness), it looks like his goes from about sea-level to just under cloud height, where as mine goes from just over sea level to the ceiling, with clouds passing about midway through it. It's a little more difficult to compare as they seem to be using a mod texture pack.

Awesome work though, I dig the larger "house" construction in the tree.
