Exactly what I was talking about. I bet you could find ores that are exposed on one side using this method, however I don't think ores (or any block for that matter) that are completely surrounded even exist, until you unbury them. That's what I would do to cut down on processor time.

And yes, this is a HUGE issue for MP.

What you are looking for (If I understand the question correctly) is on this http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Redst ... e_NOT_gate page.. Look under the heading for NOT gates, AKA Inverters. The pic should explain the rest.

Indeed! It allows for the one thing that has made good old Planet Earth as interesting as it is. The useful threat of (and possibly application of) FORCE! Despite it's obviously counter-carebear nature, force makes things interesting.

Actually, I misspoke earlier, I should have said 're-texturing,' not 're-skinning.' Custom skins I don't see a problem with, it's the issue of turning all the boxes/diamonds/iron textures to be fluorescent colors, and everything else see through. It'll put the entire game in the hands of cheaters to allow this to continue. When one person can just look through the floor and see everyone's secret bases/stashes/etc... it's just not fair.

So yeah, I hope it gets fixed.

I agree with Corbald. If we make it into a see-who-survives-longest sort of game, everyone would run off and isolate themselves from each other to avoid death as best they can. Not much fun.

Fun, just not in line with the idea presented by the OP. Which is also a different form of fun, and not to be confused with FUN.

I'm hoping skinning is disabled for MP, due to the fact that you can just skin dirt/stone with transparencies and see through the world.

Banning ? Is that really the best you could come up with ?

The solution that makes sense is to have pre-game lobbies to reserve slots on a given perma-death server.
Once the slots are filled , the game starts. If you die , no respawn - you just can't resume playing. You can't connect with another account as the slot that was reserved was just yours , and expires upon death. Meanwhile , you can sign up for the next turn - the game ending once a set death count is reached , after a set period of time , or due to a vote. You can also try your luck with other perma-death servers if they seem close to a round end , lowering waiting times.

No loopholes , 100% high stakes gameplay. And server ops can reserve bans for actual offenses.

While I like your idea for another type of server, I don't think it'll fly for the OP's idea. Seems to me that your concept would become more of a 'deathmatch' type of gameplay with everyone trying to be the last man on top. It appears the OP is trying for a persistent world feel, with heavy consequences for death to both instill caution, and limit pvp.

I would be happier with a setup that never resets, but rather tracks on a user by user basis. IP tracking is simple enough, and for those that know how to get around it, the server is going to lose it's charm very quickly, driving them away.

    Doesnt seem fun.

I dont want to join a server with my friends, die and then have to wait for everyone else to die.

    Id just leave the server.

Now see... That is constructive. Menen provided his opinion, and supporting thoughts. Posts which contain no supported opinions, constructive criticism, relevant data or on topic ideas are pointless and wasteful. "NO" is not an opinion, it's a declaration of negativity. "That's Stupid" is an unsupported opinion (And often a false statement of fact) and is worthless, and spreads it's worthlessness to the person who posted it, NOT their target.

Since there is no face to talk to, your posts represent you. If they are stupid, ignorant, wasteful, combatative, etc... SO, THEN, ARE YOU!

Brilliant idea, IMHO. I would even play one with a one week ban. I would, of course, play other servers if I were waiting for 'reincarnation,' but once my timer was up, you can bet I'd be back again. Rather than reseting the server, just have a minimum population cap. If too many people die, the bans are lifted temporarily. If 'Ghosts' were implemented, I would log in every day to see what was going on.

What about children as a way to respawn? Could be done if custom blocks are ever implemented. You start the game with a block that has your name stored in it. You and another person decide to have 'offspring.' You both place your blocks down on the ground next to each other, so they touch. They are destroyed, but it spawns a new 'infant' block, which you must feed pork/bread/water to every so often, or it dies. If you both (or even if only one of you) manage to keep it alive for a set amount of time, it's deleted, and spawns two respawn cubes, which you can then pick up. If a respawn cube is in your inventory, it's consumed when you die, and allows you to respawn WITH A NEW NAME!

If not.... bam! Ban for however long.
