Ok, get back into Safe Mode and re-run HijackThis! and put check marks next to the following items:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: {1A03F196-9617-4CA0-842B-A83CEECB022B} - - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - rsion - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O23 - Service: 2bb6168d7f94d39addae76c92d0b9bdb (aceefbeabadeeefc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\aceefbeabadeeefc.exe
    O23 - Service: npkcmsvc - Unknown owner - C:\Nexon\MapleStory\npkcmsvc.exe (file missing)

npkcmsvc.exe is an anti-hacking tool that MapleStory and a few others use to monitor what processes you have running and what key strokes you use, basically to keep you from running bots in their games. IF you dont play them go ahead and delete it, but it most likely will come back until you disable it in the services tab.

One you've put a check mark next to those, click Fix and let it run. Reboot and see if it comes up normally.

    f) Practice demonology and sacrifice myself/some guy to go into the 'other side' and kick that spirit's ass for waking me up in the middle of the night to either play with the chandelier (and falls, thus the 'thud') or say some inaudible words that are pretty common in rehabilitation centers.

    rofl

Reminds me of being back in the Navy. We used to joke around that when our Senior Chief would ask if our equipment was back up, we would say "Yup, even sacrificed a few chickens to appease the Gods so it would keep working." Well one day some guy in the berthing had his pillow bust. So we took a hand full of feathers and dumped them around the computers. When our boss walked in, he was all WTF is this?!?. My reply, "They were from the chickens". Took about 3 seconds and I thought the old guy was going to **** himself laughing. He could never walk into that equipment room again without busting up laughing. I had taped a big crow feather to the top of one of the computers.

Maybe you're over thinking the problem and that your computer is really junk? Anyways, honestly check your process sesions and see if anything unwanted is running. If nothing seems to out of the ordinary, then maybe your computer is junk.

Why would you even bother posting if thats the only thing you have to say? Not everyone gets their computer for Christmas, and not everyone can afford to just toss it when it has a problem. I can think of a dozen different rootkits that don't show up as running processes, sorta like the one which killed my hard drive last week. Task Manager is just a quick and dirty way to find out what is hogging all your CPU usage.

As for telling you how to get into Safe Mode, I did.

If for some reason it won't install, reboot your computer in safe mode (by tapping the F8 from a cold start and select Safe Mode WITHOUT Networking) Click yes when it asks you if you want to run in safe mode. Once it comes up, then retry installing HijackThis.

I've watched this video a while ago when it came out and was shocked that it was such a crappy movie. First off, the whole movie wasn't scary except for only one thing; the ending where the guy just gets thrown - that's it. This movie was stupid and nothing really happened and the plot lacked development.

To each their own. Considering it made 10 times its budget at the box office, its one of the best box office return per dollar of budget ever made. So obviously there is something there that a loarge amount of people were willing to see. And its not like people didnt have an idea of what they were going there to see, the movie gradually spread to more theatres over a months time.

Safe mode is such a crap invention. It really doesn't work, Safe mode can be setup to run additional programs with a registry edit - if I know that, virus programmers know it too.

Agreed but its best atm to try the simple, easy to do things first before rooting around in his registry looking for various keys.

Sounds to me like you have something running on your machine thats using 100% of your CPU, which would explain alot of your symptoms like icons taking forever to appear, programs acting like the are freezing after a few seconds. Odds are its not the virus doing this but something the virus damaged thats trying to start up and can't thus hogging all your system resources. Hopefully safe mode can keep that program from running long enough for you to poke around.

Try booting up normally and bringing up Task Manager again. On the processes tab is there something other than System Idle Process using 99% of memory?

Don't mess with your registry unless you really know what you are doing. Go get a copy of HijackThis. Install and run it. Save the log file but do not click the Fix option yet. Post the log here. It will give you/us an idea of whats running on your computer that shouldn't be. If for some reason it won't install, reboot your computer in safe mode (by tapping the F8 from a cold start and select Safe Mode WITHOUT Networking) Click yes when it asks you if you want to run in safe mode. Once it comes up, then retry installing HijackThis.

You should probably try going into safe mode anyways before trying to run any of your antivirus or anti-malware stuff. Normally if a virus is preventing it from running, safe mode will let you do it anyways. I use both Avast and Malwarebytes Anti-malware. Malware Bytes finds alot of things Avast doesn't seem to catch, but I will admit, the loud vocal "A Virus has been detected" from Avast is pretty slick.

Sorry if my post sounds like I'm treating you like a noob, I've always found its better to explain step by step rather than assume. Some people get defensive and won't say if they didn't understand a certain step for fear of looking like a novice. I consider myself pretty good with this stuff, did it for 13 years in the Navy and 7 years since. You are on the right track though, by asking for help here, there are some pretty good people around that should be able to help you out.

**I forgot to ask. Do you know if the Windows account you are using has administrator rights?

I've been laughing for the last 10 mins after seeing that 'flying penises' pic. That is probably the funniest thing I've seen in months. My cat keeps jumping on my lap to see if I'm ok. As much as I dislike seeing people get griefed, I can't help but applaud the originality of that hack.

Someone could literally say Minecraft is the crappiest game ever, but unless they cite the reasons it simply makes them look like an idiot. Any curious person who isn't a lemming and wants to actually see for themselves what makes it "crappy" will check the site out, which actually is a great thing. Minecraft has enough fun to it that it stands on its own merits and really isn't affected by fools like the guy quoted.

On that note, I'm kinda curious on how big Notch would like to see Minecraft become. There are some pro's and con's to going from the cool Indie game it is now to going mainstream with a few hundred thousand more site visitors and maybe another 10,000+ subscriptions. Money of course being a big bonus, but then there also comes the pressure for more features faster. What I would dread to see is the massive griefing that would come with that many new people. I like the fact that Notch still plays the game. It shows he still enjoys it and it hasn't turned into boring "work" for him.

Ok Recuva failed. It gave it a vailiant attempt but only ended up recovering 14,000 files and about 500 MB worth. And most of that was empty folders, and none of the folder structure was intact. According to the log, it couldnt find 170,000+ files that went in them folders. Done with this for tonight but in the morning I'll try a few more of them Freeware recovery programs. I am still open to suggestions.

@AndrewPH, we don't really need you playing forum cop. If the admins felt this thread should cease, they would do so. So please stop telling us to not post here any longer.

@Tigerboy, If you ever got back onto someones server I would be surprised. You got far too much a kick out of doing what you did that night to ever be trusted. And an apology just doesn't cut it for most people. You need to seriously sit down and evaluate why you thought that was fun.

I said i could crash servers as a joke, i'm not technilogically advanced enough to even know how to crash anything

Thats like joking around and saying you have a bomb while on a plane. Expect to get beaten down by the other passengers (server owners) and never being allowed on a plane (server) again.
