    Quick Question
    • Things What about things like World Edit and World Guard that servers use to fix things like large griefs and such or things that your don't generally want to give to the public do to the fact of them destroying the server. there will always be problems with griefers and people that troll and you need to restrict some plugins just for the server staff would that go against the rules of the EULA or not
    • If it was considered a staff rank or people that run the server no play on it would that make any difference at all the the EULA?

    Thanks for your time :)

As long as you aren't giving world edit/world guard access to people that give you money, you can restrict it to staff. You also can't give staff access to people that pay for it.

As for the second post, if you reach a goal, you can reward everyone, but you can't reward just the people that donated.

It doesn't always meen that they don't care about these servers, they have already payed for the game, why should we now have to pay to support servers? thats like only being able to campaign on games like call of duty! Also, parents of 10 year old kids aren't all made of money, they don't just give their children money to play games, lots try to keep their children away from games! Also parents are old, in their days, they didn't have things like this, they don't understand thing like you would need money to play games.

Who do you think pays for those online CoD servers? Most of the time (on computer versions) the players pay for them. You just don't see the cost because other games don't allow monetization of their game. There are plenty of server owners that will continue allowing you to play on their server for free because they enjoy running it.

You didn't actually read what I posted or you continued to choose to ignore it.

I specifically asked HOW it is good for the community. All you've explained is that Mojang has the right, which I don't believe ANY of us disagree with. They own the game, of course they have the right to choose how its used. I cannot trust Mojang when they do something as hap-hazzard as change something a large portion of the community relies on, without actually creating any kind of discussion with the community first.

If you're going to continue to quote me and respond to my posts, would you please at least answer the question I asked, rather then continue to repeat the same thing over and over?

If you want an answer, then you can ask Notch or keep waiting. The simple fact is IT DOESNT MATTER. No one is answering your question because 1) We aren't sure what Mojang is up to and 2) they will do this regardless of whether the community thinks its a good idea.

Mojang could shut down the authentication servers tomorrow, because they can do whatever they want. This is good for the community because we are still allowed to play Minecraft

Here's the full EULA I agreed to when purchasing the game:

I'm all for Mojang shutting down P2W servers, but I don't really see where it actually prohibits what the servers are doing. Sure they can say that everyone has now agreed to the new EULA by playing the game, but it wasn't against this EULA, so they have changed it.

They have very clearly changed the rules, that is not a misconception at all. Compare these quotes in the old version:

And now in the new version:

Yes, that is how it works, they are allowed to change their license whenever they want. If your country makes cigarettes illegal, you don't get to keep smoking them because "That wasn't the law when I was born"

If you wanted to be mad about the EULA, you should have done it when they changed it the first time. And if you want to go by the old EULA "not to distribute the changes" then it looks like most mod packs and bukkit/spout/etc would be against the EULA.

I don't think you don't know EU laws very well.

Well for starters, you can't sell (or give) someone a car and years later, put a wheel lock on it until your new EULA has been agreed to.

That being said, you don't even need to buy or agree to anything to download & run a minecraft server from the official website, thus no EULA can be enforced (at least for all the current releases).

They didn't sell you a car, you purchased a license to use their car. It is still their car, and now they are telling you that you aren't allowed to rent their car out to other people.

As for downloading the server, go ahead and unpack the server jar, I'm pretty sure there is a license in there explaining what you are/are not allowed to do with it.

the word benefits is subjective though. and you dont get the benefits from paying for a server. the benefits just happened to be there. the server owner does not actively move benefits from one server to another. the person who donated does by placing them in the enderchest. the plugin is coincidental.

if that doesnt work heres another one. after donating and asking for a perk you get kicked from a server. when you rejoin you are at the server spawn which is millions of blocks away and encased in obsidian with an outer layer of lava. there is a button to teleport you back. when joining for the first time you were in the place with no diamond pick. now you have a fire resist potion and a diamond pick. after breaking through you find diamond blocks you can mine. you didnt get anything from your donation except a kick from the server but you coincidentally found diamonds right after.

If you want to try this, go ahead, but you are not the first person to try and bypass a law by 'coincidence'. Either the lawyers will shut you down for trying, or they will contact your host and your host will shut you down rather than try and fight a company with what would look like a valid complaint regardless.

Either way they shouldn't add this

They shouldn't add what, the ability for servers to make money? Because that is the only thing being added by the EULA.

the issue is some people (like me) CANT donate ANY amount due to no credit cards, my parents hating paypal..they dont trust anything online..even if its 1 dollar

I'm sure there will be methods that will sprout up allowing users to help servers without needing to physically pay. I'm also sure there will be plenty of servers that won't charge for access.

To go along with this a bit, what's going on with Minecraft here would be like if the US government decided to ban free to play games in America. Of course it's different because Mojang can technically do what they're doing here and the US government probably can't ban pay to win games, but...similar, right? Telling everybody they can't do business a certain way, even though playing free to play games or pay to win servers is completely optional.

Not at all. This is like the US government shutting down Napster. They knew it was illegal, but then all of a sudden, they were shut down because the government started enforcing the law. What happened next? Apple started selling music online, and now there hundreds of great options to legally get you music online.

    A couple things.

First, to all the people commenting that "You can't fund a server with /hat", isn't that exactly what Team Fortress does?

Second, I occasionally host a server. I have a hosted dedicated server that I pay $99 a month for. Not once have I received money to help cover costs. I pay and run it because I like running a server, and want something that I would like to play on. To all the " No one will run a server they aren't being compensated for" then you obviously don't understand the point to running a server. How many counter strike, battlefield, call of duty servers are run by people that make 0 money off of them. All this means is that there will be fewer 13 year old server operators out there, and it will be people that pay for servers because they enjoy playing on the servers they create.

    What is this server?
I have been looking for something particular for a while, and I still haven't found it, so I decided to try my hand at getting it to work myself. Since I'm waiting on some mods to be made (by me or someone else) I'm putting this into Alpha test. There will be bugs, things will change, and there will be a reset though I don't know when I will reset.

    The server will...
    • try to lower the need for commands- I would like everything to be done by the player as if they were living in the world, not by hand waving commands
    • be light roleplay- Medieval themes, and play a role. You don't need a 20 page character background, or much of any for that matter.
    • try to focus on teamwork- You could play by yourself, but joining a kingdom in some sense of 'join' should be better
    • listen to your opinion- Obviously what I want might not be what other's want. Let me know what you think should be changed.
    The server will not...
    • be pay to win- At all. I'm thinking that donors might get name tags if anything, maybe a special tag. No diamonds, no protected bases, nothing.
    • spawn items- No one starts with diamond tools, no one will get stacks of stone to build a castle. Everything on the server will be acquired by the players.
At the moment, we have a couple mods, but are missing some large ones.
    • Currency is being handled by Gringotts. We are on the gold standard: Nuggets, ingots, and blocks
    • Lore Locks provides a method for locking and picking locks
    • Races and Classes to give some variety for characters. No classes, and the races are being worked on.
    • Terrain Control to change up terrain generation a bit.
    • Report RTS: ticket system so you can let me know about problems. Use /modreq
All I'm asking of you right now is to help test the server. Let me know what is wrong and what needs/should be changed. I will be looking for staff, but you either should a) know how to program a plugin or B) be active on the server.

Without further ado, the IP for Kings & Kingdoms: 74.208.103.51

I look forward to seeing you on. Find me on the server, or post here for questions/comments/concerns.

Server is conditionally up. It is an alpha, so I can't guarantee everything is working the way it should, but it will be worked on consistently. Sending PM's with the IP and a couple basic instructions.
