And then I returned...with more progress! More than double the size of my first update. Not that that's a big accomplishment. I'm still living in the central platform(origin point) for now and have walkways to platforms for each area I'll need. One area for mushrooms, another for the trees, and the rest I'm figuring out as I go. Once I fill in the outer walkways and set up the platforms, I'm planning on making much larger platforms just beyond those you see. Npc housing, exp grinder, etc. Had animals spawning before I even got the grass to the platform, so that was a fun surprise.
Thoughts?
I like your platform. Well laid out and well colored.
I'd put things that you don't need every time you play like the nether portal, mob spawner, pastures.
I like my golem farm to drop items in a high traffic area for easy pick up.
I'm still in awe of just how much a single bucket impacts this map.
I started out making a wooden slab platform, because that's just efficient, then fenced it in so the people would stop going for swims. They liked swimming. After that, I made a sort of bowl under it so I could mine the stuff without drowning and have a little storage room later on, then came the walkways and such. The lone hole in the central area is temporary, just for sugar cane. It's painfully slow work, but still entertaining.
Interesting note: The shape/corners of the central platform stopping exactly where the biomes start was total coincidence. I wasn't actually aware of them at the time.
I got your mail and re-looked at the picture, but I still don't see how you got ice into your inventory. Torches make ice melt, not pop into the world like mushrooms exposed to too much light. I'm wondering if it's a bug or an effect of a mod.
I did a forced update and they no long pop out
It is an effect of a loaded mod.... and here I got sooo excited about learning something new *DOH!*
I apologize for spreading incorrect info. Original post edited.
This seed will spawn you very near a large mushroom biome if someone wants to kill all the mooshrooms and see if they respawn on the mycelium.
Beacons do not require diamonds, and the blocks under them can be Iron, Emeralds, or Gold (or Diamonds). Those 3 are all renewable (though hard to get in bulk).
Nice, I've not seen the point in having one yet so idk much about them.
I was not aware that Mooshrooms spawned naturally at any time other than world creation. The Wiki doesn't specifically say that they do, but it also doesn't specifically say that they don't. If someone could provide me with some proof that they do, I'd happily find a way to add a mushroom biome to the map.
If you make it - I will come
Seems like cheating to have unlimited mushroom stew from a mooshroom early on, I'd recommend making it a hard to access spot/have to overcome some kind of serious challenge.
Another person mentioned the blaze spawner (It's actually in the pictures in the first post if you squint). As to the Nether Skeleton spawner, I suppose it's possible but I'm not sure where I'd put it. Plus, I didn't want the whole nether to be a series of monster spawners. I would like it to be possible, though, to make a beacon so I'll think on this some more.
After watching the LP's I wished I could do one but since I don't know how I decided to start over and give myself 16 min at a time (I think that is the average time per episode) to see how far I could get each time increment and even try to keep a running comentary going (very hard). I would just like to report that for the first time I got 3 jungle trees!!. (this is my 3rd time to replay.)
Had some fun with this so far. Heres some screenies for you.
Very nice looking area.

can anyone please post a mod trap plan I'm having no luck with my designs I'm either getting no mobs or creepers are taking it apart
I've never had an issue with getting hostile mobs. I just put up 8x8 pads with trap doors on the edges and they fall 24+ blocks to their deaths. It doesn't take long to get more drops than you can use. Once you have a bucket, any standard design should work well. A roof of some kind is needed only to stop endermen from spawning.
i was tinkering in creative in a new world for a while and the whole time no animals spawned. Plenty of monsters but 0 animals of any kind. strange ......
I created a superflat world, it started with 3 or 4 sheep and a pig. After 9+ hours of afk and play, 4 chickens spawned.
Slimes also spawned but at a greatly reduced rate. Doing a hardcore superflat survival would be a cake walk compared to what it used to be like.
Are you sure your in a slime chunk and or havent accidently went to peacefull loading another map ?
that pad covers 4 chunks under the End Portal - i think it's big enough and my xp farm is working great! I might have to go back to 1.4.4 and try that. Under that version I had animals all over the place. But when I updated to 1.4.5 my cat disappeared. Had him keeping an eye on the creepers as they fell to their deaths
I always seem to have issues w/ slimes and 5thHorseman always seems to have issues w/ his hostile mob traps - lol
This issue w/ the passive mobs is a new thing.

I would prefer to be on an all adult realm. I love my kids/grandkids, just not everything they do.

I am a decent builder, know MC well, can do some redstone stuff. I like to mine and terraform.
I hate pvp and griefing.
Any version of MC is fine and I do have a headset for skype/teamspeak.

that's an idea. Would give me one more reason to go to the nether - my char can't help himself but to go swimming in lava. *DOH!*

I sent you mail but everything I did is in the picture.

Wouldn't more diamonds be needed to do this?
That's a novel way of playing. Go Granny Go!
Very nice looking area.

It gave me 2 frames, one has the map and the other has the egg. I'm going to skip the 'tame the wolf' and ghast tear potions goals.
I'm pretty sure that is where it spawned.
So I'm calling this map completed.

Here's a pic of one of the 11 gold farm platforms. The same basic design was used for the over-world spawner until a bucket was available.
Still no passive mobs other than squids but another YAY! because I got a slime today.

MineCraft will probably adjust this again in a future update.
