Feb 27, 2015Clicks posted a message on [16x][1.7.2] Wayukian pack (Magma slime & blaze previews on pg. 144) [800k+ downloads]Absolutely adore this texture pack!!Posted in: Resource Packs
Jul 17, 2014I'm kind of upset by the introverts on here saying they'd rather be extroverts. I'm an introvert, and completely happy with that fact. I don't think I've ever 'wished' I was an extrovert just to be the focal point at a club or to pick up. I do get slightly annoyed that people confuse being introverted, with social anxiety or rudeness - it usually comes up when I'm not joining into small talk. I don't find it necessary to sit there and talk for the sake of it. So, I'm not sure one is better than the other - they just thrive in different circumstances.Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science

I've heard all this before. You could pretty much substitute London for Melbourne - it's exactly the same argument that's been used over and over again. Funny how people are suddenly worried about 'the Arabs and Pakistanis'. Pre 9/11 it was the Vietnamese who were trying to 'steal our jobs and create a little Hanoi'. It's an argument that is based on nothing but fear of anyone that isn't white.
If people actually checked the numbers, they'd realise the number of people seeking refuge in Western countries is huge, yet the number we actually accept is bugger all. Those that are accepted, don't create communities because they're part of a takeover conspiracy, but because they're driven to do so but instilled racism, fueled by political discourse.

It would be like a hetrosexual man having sex with another man (Imagine they could make a baby). It's not worth it in their opinion.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Did you mean in your opinion?

Well...I don't know. Popularizing some details about who the shooter was are kind of important in order to figure what made him do what he did; lest someone see similar conditions in someone else they know but not do anything to prevent them doing something radical themselves. But then of course covering it would also encourage such a person to do said radical action.
Bit of a paradox there.
I know what you're saying - but I'm not sure the media has ever been useful in assisting to figure out the motives of a killer - that's always concluded by professionals.

Nobody is asking for your help. Its not wanted or needed.
I don't think this is true at all. I'm sure a lot of people would accept the offer of spiritual guidance or assistance from a church. I personally know of a few reformed addicts that received a great deal of help to overcome their problems after a kindly encounter with a few Christians. In my town, Christians are always the first to offer assistance to the homeless and the elderly. I don't think it's all about converting people - many Christians dedicate their lives to assisting people in need because they think it's the right thing to do.

One of the major reasons I don't think I could make it as a vegan.
I have made the attempt to go vegan a couple of times but I always end up caving when I spot the block of Mainland Tasty Chedder at the supermarket. I can't help but admire vegans.

I'll have you know "social justice" is the derailment, and YOU are attempting to derail the conversation. You are clearly a bigoted idiot, so stop replying to me because nobody likes a hypocritical, self-contradictory, devil's advocate, extremely condescending in all the stupidest ways, in-one-ear-and-out-the-other bigot. I will have no more of you or any other SJW full of hogwash.
You are the only one who has been condescending and rude. My last reply only addressed a clear lack of understanding of the issues. I make every effort to stick to the topic, and address the arguments - you argue with false assumptions and have now resorted to personal attacks. EDIT: I've noticed you removed the sections referring to me as an 'idiot'.
You're actually a shining example of why the trend exists..You've managed to take a platform for women to share their personal experiences of misogyny, sexism and sometimes revolting sexual behaviour, and responded by loudly claiming the discussion is 'blatant misandry' - choosing to ignore those that oppose your view. It's wrong.
I'll stop this discussion now, but only because I feel my posts haven't helped Azem's topic.
Jun 4, 2014Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and ScienceQuote from pooch12
Yeah, you clearly don't understand the message. You claim you have an 'IQ above room temperature', but clearly don't know the meaning of sexism, discrimination, misogyny OR misandry. I know you're happy to throw the terms around, but it always helps to have some understanding. So, ignore me and everyone else and go back to your efforts of derailing conversations regarding social justice. Good luck.
Quote from AzemOcram
I would love to hear the opinions of all Minecraftians on the effectiveness, usefulness, and enjoyability (or annoyance) of Hashtag Activism. On facebook, one person responded saying that we should all go out and be active; on Simtropolis, people are arguing about what to call the # symbol (I personally pronounce it as pound but number works as well); and here, we have a side-conversation about "feminazis."
Apologies Azem. My posts didn't exactly attempt to answer your question.

Oct 4, 2010Glimmar posted a message on [64x] GLIMMAR'S STEAMPUNK v.22 NOW RELEASED! + Latest Newglim City Download! + GS Redstone Pipes Add-On Pack!Posted in: Resource Packs
MINECRAFT FORUMS CLOSURE!
I have been on these forums for around 10 years, first as a simple user and then very early on as a contributor with my one and only Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack.
I just want to say the very biggest and warmest thanks to all of you who have come along and shared in the experience over the years. I have conversed with so many of you in what is a unique an excellent environment for the exchange of ideas, support and encouragement. There will be nothing similar to these forums and Minecraft will never be the same without this place.
I am too old and too busy with RL at the moment to start over anywhere else, but if Curse/Forge/Twitch isn't effected by the Minecraft Forums closure then I will still hopefully be updating from time to time over there. Links below to my latest GS updates direct you to my CurseForge page, so that will hopefully continue.
My legal copyright licence, which also comes with the pack, will always be in force, so if I'm not updating as often as we'd both like, it is not a signal for anyone to take over and redistribute my artwork on any other website. This resource pack and the work therein is NOT being abandoned by it's creator, Glimmar.
Minecraft Forums was always my 'go to' place to meet with you all and to reliably find out info on Minecraft, to share ideas and be inspired. Nothing else compares...period.
Please keep an eye on my CurseForge page for updates:
My sincere thanks to Citric Squid for making all this happen in the first place and for help over the years and especially to you all for keeping this place so civilised and welcoming. I will miss not being able to post pics and videos and then getting your wonderful input by way of encouragement and ideas. Seriously, I have been very fortunate indeed to have such great support from all who have passed through.
At least I can say I was there at the beginning...and stayed standing through to the end!
End of an era.

By default it may only be distributed by the author on minecraftforums.net, or other sites The Owner personally posts it on.
In the event of Glimmar's extended absence from the Minecraft Forums, Glimmar's Steampunk remains copyright and the property of the Owner (Glimmar) according to the conditions laid out below. Any public distribution of the textures supplied within the 'Glimmar's Steampunk' resource pack and other downloadable Glimmar art assets, without Glimmar's written permission, is strictly forbidden.
The Minecraft EULA does NOT supersede the Owner's copyright, this licence or conditions herein.
Take screenshots and post them here in my thread, anywhere on the Minecraft Forums* or any other third party websites*.
Create videos and post them here on the Minecraft Forums* or any other third party websites*. Please let Glimmar know so he has the chance to add them to his user media gallery in the OP.

*please attach appropriate credit and a link.
You may NOT:
Re-create any of the Glimmar's Steampunk packs.
Edit/use/modify the textures or any art assets, other than for personal use.
Upload any Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack files, textures or art assets to any third party servers, eg. Planetminecraft.com, etc.
Use the Owner's pack for public display purposes as a base for creating your own pack.
Claim as your own project / re-distribute in ANY way.
Use ANY part of Glimmar's Steampunk for profit using such things as Adfly links, etc.
Direct link to my downloads, or re-host my files or art assets. The Author considers this to be piracy, as it bypasses my offical thread and creates problems for both the Owner and the user when things don't work as expected. Instead please link to my official Minecraft Forum resource pack thread here.
Any contravention of the above conditions will be reported and where necessary the Owner may claim damages and/or take other appropriate action to rectify the situation.
Multiplayer Server/Map/Adventure Use
GSv.16 onwards contains a huge amount of new material, consequently the whole pack is subject to new conditions as laid out below - commencing 2nd February 2015 the following conditions must be adhered to:-
Distributing a seperate downloadable unmodified or modified version of Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack or any part thereof (eg. within 'mix' packs), for adventure maps or multiplayer server use, will be deemed as contravening my new licence, will be reported and may result in legal action.
Please direct all your players to download the base GS resource pack from Glimmar's thread here on the Minecraft Forums (This means I get fair recognition for my original artwork, and your users understand properly where the textures you are recommending come from).
You do not have permission to redistribute or host a modified stand alone version of the Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack or to 'direct link' to any of my resource pack files.
ANY necessary modifications to my textures that you feel would be necessary for your world must be made as a separate add-on (ie. not a standalone complete) resource pack, with instructions on how to select and overlay Glimmar's base pack in the 'resource pack folder' in game.
ANY modifications of Glimmar's Steampunk textures must be your own work. Mixing GS textures with work from any other publicly available resource pack is strictly forbidden.
ANY modifications of Glimmar's Steampunk textures used for the purposes of making an 'add-on' resource pack remain the property of the owner of Glimmar's Steampunk, any original artwork you create is your own.
Any 'add-on' resource pack made under the above conditions must be distributed through Glimmar's Resource Pack thread on the Minecraft Forums here, not hosted on your own website, separate MC forum thread or any other website.
Post a link to your modified pack download in a comment post in Glimmar's Resource Pack thread on the Minecraft Forums and redirect your users to use this link (that way they can always get the most up to date official pack without having to wait for you to update your custom add-on version).
Any contravention of the above conditions will be reported and where necessary the Owner may claim damages and/or take other appropriate action to rectify the situation.
Mod Support Textures Use
Conditions for making supporting textures for mods in the style of this pack are now the same as for Multiplayer/Server/Map/Adventure (see above). Exceptions to some of the above conditions may be made for existing Glimmer's Steampunk mod support artists, to give time to re-direct all users to download mod textures from the Glimmar's Steampunk thread on the Minecraft Forums. Please see the 'Fan Made Mod Support' section below for further clarification.
To get the very best out of Glimmar's Steampunk please first install Optifine. Here's the link: https://optifine.net/home
The Optifine mod makes use of my CTM 'connected textures', my animated 'BetterSkies', random animated extra mobs and villagers, animated GUIs, extended range of animated paintings, Better Colors, BetterLighting, etc.
Without Optifine you will be missing out on all of the above and much more! This pack is now designed to take full advantage of the appropriate version of the Optifine mod.
Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack will still work without installing Optifine, but your 'in-Minecraft' experience will not compare with what you see in the above showcase videos or pics.
Please note: If minecraft begins to lag severely for you after installing Optifine, this is most likely due to the number of extra animated blocks, items, gui, mobs, etc. included in the GS resource pack. To fix, play around with options within Minecraft where, if you have installed Optifine, you'll now be able to switch off animations, and alter many other video settings, etc. I believe this can greatly increase frame rate for some, whilst still retaining the benefit of all those thousands of extra ctm textures.
THIS PACK IS CURRENTLY EXCLUSIVE TO:
MINECRAFT FORUMS Texture Pack Section (you're here now)
CURSE/FORGE Texture Pack Section: link
By downloading and/or using my 'Glimmar's Steampunk' texture pack, you agree and validate my licence and conditions of use, as laid out in my 'Legal' section above.
***Important note: all previous permissions granted for use of Glimmar's Steampunk are now deemed invalid as of 2nd Feb 2015. see my 'Legal' section above for new conditions.***
Main Pack Download: Glimmar's Steampunk
.....Special Thanks & CreditsThe following list of supporters of this pack have been generous in donating material used as placeholders:
In the Standard Pack:
Vondell...chicken, some weapon and tool items, cowhide.
asikar...Gold and diamond swords have been upgrade.
BloodJack...for providing the original crafting and furnace gui layout - still partly used as the basis for my current extensively modified animated versions.
Features in the Standard Pack but 'activated' by Optifine:
Animated Terrain Blocks and Items:
PATR101...for animating the flowing lines on my eye of ender block*, originally animating my craftbench* and musicplayer* blocks. Giving me the time to work on other things!
Submissions used in addition to any made by me (Glimmar):
Glimmar...randommob chickens (simple edits of Vondell's chicken)
No 44...squid2 *
Balduran...pigzombie15* Adapted by Glimmar to fit his new 'pigzombieman' design.
* partially or completely derived from my textures.
I am always happy to receive original alternative contributions in this thread, but I no longer wish to use the work of others directly in the texture pack. Unfortunately I now no longer have time to keep updating my Alternate Textures pack with contributions. If your submission makes use of my own work, please keep your posts within my Glimmar's Steampunk thread, as such derived artwork remains the property of the owner...me!
All work must be original or adapted from my own work. Under no circumstances should you use work from another resource pack...even with the artist's permission, and please don't cut and paste images directly from Google. I wish to preserve the individual style of the pack and in so doing also avoid potential arguments regarding copyright.
I am very grateful for everyone's input, whether it's just a friendly compliment, suggestion or donated alternative edit...it's always encouraging!
Please note: These downloads are not 'resource packs' that can just be selected in-game, they are a vast collection of original alternative textures which you can dip into to customise your personal version of my pack and, like the rest of my work, is only for Glimmar's Steampunk use, is copyright and is subject to my 'legal' conditions (see the relevant section in this post above).
Any modifications of my work donated for use in the 'Glimmar's Steampunk User Made Textures' download is subject to my legal conditions. If a user submits his own original artwork and you wish to make use of this outside the confines of Glimmar's Steampunk then you must first seek written permission of the contributing artist before commencing work.
Click the spoiler to see what's in the GS Alternative Textures downloads and some tips on swapping standard GS textures with my alternatives:
Amongst other things there are alternative:
boats and 'paddlesteamer' mod skins.
32 and 64x minecarts.
'airship' mod skins.
mob and steampunk character skins.
sets of stained clay
various animated spawn_eggs
sets of stained glass
animated redstone dust
fire and lava
and hundreds of miscellaneous textures.
In most cases, since MC 1.5, individual alternative textures can just be dropped into the appropriate folder in the resource pack, but you will need to check and change the file name, as all texture names were changed by Mojang in the MC 1.6 update. Some animated textures have accompanying '.mcmeta' or '.properties' files and if you wish to change these for an alt, you may need to edit or delete these particular files or Minecraft/MCPatcher might get a little confused. Some alternate textures like the steampunk clock or lo-res Better Skies will work fine with the '.mcmeta' and '.properties' files that are in the pack...it's just a case of dropping the alt texture in the right place (again, just make sure the alt file name is the same as the one you are replacing). Please check the 'Changelogs' in the pack or ask in my thread if something is still not clear.
No work included in my 'GS Alternative Textures' downloads has been acquired from any other thread within the Minecraft forums, it includes both original artwork by me and work edited by others derived from my own alternate textures. Any work that is not my own has been freely (and generously) donated within this thread for use within this pack. Permission and submissions granted throughout this thread.
.....Fan Made Mod SupportThis section is very much a fan-based endeavour.
Glimmar's Introduction and Legal Conditions
There are so many mods I would love to support, but I have to be realistic and admit any spare time I have is expended on improving the main pack. I have provided probably one of the largest collections of alternative textures for any pack (still growing) and some GS fans are using these and their own artistic skills to create sympathetic Steampunk textures for mods that compliment my pack. I am very grateful for their input and support and in particular to MegistusEligius for creating such a massive selection of Glimmar mod support textures presented below.
If you would like to help support Glimmar's Steampunk by using my textures (see my collection of alts above) or your own skills to make Steampunk equivalent mod textures in the style of this pack, to add to the growing collection here, just give MegistusEligius a shout first or myself...and I'll give him a shout...he knows a lot more about Minecraft Mods and will probably know if something is already covered.
If your contribution is more than just the odd texture, then have a chat with Glimmar about making your own shop (banner-sized) sign to hang here in 'Glimmars Mod Emporium' (See Megistus' example) and help make the place look like a real Victorian emporium...the kind of quirky place you'd really like to peruse for those weird and ingenious must have gadgets and gifts!
Conditions for Submitting Mod Textures:
1. Any work submitted must only contain either your own original work and/or my own textures (found within this thread), modified/unmodified as you feel necessary to fit the mod.
2. Please remove any textures belonging to other artists before submitting your mod support file/s in the Glimmar's Steampunk Resource pack thread. With the best will in the world, I cannot be expected to be familiar with all your sources for the textures you submit, and what might be fine for personal use is not legal to distribute in this thread. Even if it was, it is a matter of principal and originality that we don't use work from other texture packs. If you're not sure where something came from...then leave it out...better to be safe than sorry!
3. Please upload your mod texture support link here in my thread as a post to be included in the Mod Emporium (consider making a banner and opening up a 'shop stall'. See Megistus' example). I now require all download links involving my textures to be exclusively sited in the Glimmar's Steampunk thread here on the MC forums.
4. Make sure I am clearly credited in your post in the mod thread for which you are making supporting textures and then link back to my thread here for the duration of your mod texture support pack availability. You may post screenshots and banners and other advertising material in the mod thread for the purposes of highlighting your Glimmar's Steampunk mod support.
5. Make sure you provide proper documentation in your mod support pack by way of a 'readme doc' including a statement that my modified textures are copyright, with clear credit and link information back to my thread .
4. Under no circumstances may my textures be redistributed in a standalone texture resource pack, ie as a Tekkit or FTB Glimmar's Steampunk pack. Mod support textures in the style of Glimmar's Steampunk, using the Owner's art assets, must only be offered as individual mod support texture files to work in conjuction with the Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack. Put simply, the Glimmar's Steampunk reource pack must only be downloaded via the Owner's official threads on the Minecraft Forums and Curse/Forge sites. Permission is not given to redistribute/host a complete modded standalone version of Glimmar's Steampunk resource pack, nor to redistribute/host an original complete texture resource pack with any of my textures included ('mix pack').
Balkon's Weapons Mod (Very WIP)
I am uploading the whole thing as its own texture pack - to install, just add it in conjunction with Glimmar's texture pack. What I am uploading is NOT a complete texture pack, though there are some alternate textures, it loads pretty much NO core textures. It is meant to compliment Glimmar's work, certainly not replace it. Ah, the joys of being able to load multiple texture packs

Updated 20th March 2013
Alright, here's Version 0.6.1 of the Mod Compendium. I fixed up Buildcraft so it'll actually work properly now, although I only added a few new textures (Emerald and Sandstone pipes). I also fixed the engines, as their textures had been shifted slightly in a previous update. Various other items are currently filler, but I hope to get to them… sometime next week. Unfortunately, my schedule is completely booked up through Sunday…
Furthermore, we have more textures for ComputerCraft, created by Blanco_Meneige and building off of VermillionTwilight's work in that area. We now have a rather good looking GUI for a fair number of the ComputerCraft devices, although I have been experiencing some odd behavior with the monitor. They are included in the above download, and if anyone can figure out how to get the monitor to work properly, it would be greatly appreciated.
Instructions and credits are included in the mod pack download.

Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders [compatible with Minecraft 1.12.2 via OptiFine]
Please read this entire post before attempting an install or posting about a bug.
Development news is posted on my Facebook/Twitter page: http://www.facebook.com/SonicEther

SEUS Renewed screenshots!
SEUS Renewed is an on-going project! Feel free to report any issues you encounter.
Setup (PLEASE READ)
OptiFine has taken over shader support for Minecraft. Go download and install OptiFine first! ALWAYS USE THE LATEST VERSION
You need to install this mod to use my shaderpack!
Once you've got OptiFine installed, to use a shaderpack, follow these instructions.
1. Navigate to your .minecraft folder (google is your friend if you don't know how to do this).2. Create a new folder called shaderpacks (without capital letters) if it isn't already there.3. Go download my shaderpack "Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders" from below and place the shaderpack in this directory.4. Valid shaderpacks include .fsh and .vsh files that the Shaders Mod reads to tell your GPU what to do during runtime. These files must be in a folder named shaders within any shaderpack. Shaderpacks may only be uncompressed folders or .zip files.
The following is an example of the file layout possibilities for the shaderpack Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders v10.1 Ultra.minecraft/shaderpacks/SEUS Renewed 1.0.0/shaders/[.fsh and .vsh shader files here]or.minecraft/shaderpacks/SEUS Renewed 1.0.0.zip/shaders/[.fsh and .vsh shader files here]
If this layout is not respected, your installed shaderpacks will not work. This is the first thing youshould check if your game looks like vanilla Minecraft.
5. In Minecraft, go to Options > Video Settings > Shaders. Here you will see a list of your currently installed shaderpacks. Select a shaderpack by clicking on it.
6. In Options > Video Settings > Shaders, make sure that "Old Lighting" is set to Default!
7. Click Shader Options in the bottom right corner of the Shaders selection screen (for v11.0 and Renewed) to setup SEUS-specific options. Here you can choose from Low, Medium, High, Ultra, and Extreme profiles, as well as tweak any individual option to suit your needs!
Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders
SEUS Renewed is a re-imagining of SEUS and is an ongoing project. Check the links at the very top of this post to follow its development!
Make sure to always use the latest version of OptiFine!

Once the mod is properly installed, there are a few things you can do to ensure maximum performance.
-Run the game in a smaller resolution in full-screen
-Lower your render distance
-When OptiFine is installed, try toggling "Options > Video Settings > Performance > Smooth FPS:". "ON" gives more responsive input and more steady fps, but likely lower maximum FPS.

Xenocontendi is a resource pack with a smooth texture style, and a heavy focus on color use. Another important trait is that building blocks stay close to the appearance of vanilla textures. (So a building made to look good in vanilla will look just as good in Xenocontendi!)
The pack also contains custom sounds; and support for many mods, especially those included in MCPatcher or Optifine.
Currently out of date.
All comments are greatly appreciated!
Use MCPatcher or Optifine to make use of randomobs and connected textures. MCPatcher will be needed to make use of custom colors and translucent glass.

IndexAuraCraft has come a long way since its release around October of 2011. Its March of 2012 now and I'm proud to say that AuraCraft has finally reached Version 3 of its life cycle! With over 60+ changes the transition between 2.9 to 3.0 is so great that I think its on of the most refined versions of AuraCraft ever made. A lot of textures have been re-smoothened, design changed and made generally more good-looking. I hope you enjoy this third major release of AuraCraft as I've spent a lot of hours working on it.As always, have a nice day.
Ps. If you like this pack, I really appreciate it if you +1 and comment on this thread! (:

Jan 1, 2015RodentRage posted a message on RodentRage's Shipyard - Famous Ocean Liners (Queen Mary Under Construction)Posted in: Screenshots
Hello fellow ship enthusiasts! I present you with my shipyard project, which is themed around the world's most famous ocean liners. Most of these ships are or will be from the early 20th century, during which ships were built with unmatched splendor. Right now the collection is small, but these are complete ships, meaning that the interiors are fully explorable. I hope to add many more as the months go by.
- RMS Titanic
- RMS Mauretania
- RMS Aquitania
- SS Nomadic
- RMS Queen Mary
- SS Canberra
- SS Normandie
- RMS Majestic (formerly SS Bismarck, needs complete set of plans)
- RMS Berengaria (formerly SS Imperator)
I may add some other ships, but the plans for many of these seem very hard to come by. If anyone knows of any complete ocean liner plans of a ship they would like to see built, be sure to post them.
Screenshots and Decriptions:
Arguably the most famous ship in history, Titanic leaves a strong impression on people's minds from her magnificent interiors, to her spectacular demise - even 100 years after sinking on her maiden voyage. Built as the second Olympic class ship, she was originally overshadowed by the success of her near-identical sister, the RMS Olympic. It was only after sinking that the Titanic became famous. Titanic and her sister were White Star Line's response to Cunard's Lusitania and Mauretania. White Star decided not to beat them in speed, but in sheer size and splendor, and to this day they are still remembered as some of the finest ships to cross the sea. Ironically, the Olympic had quite a successful career, despite being involved in four collisions with other ships, including ramming and sinking a U-Boat.

Built in 1906, the Mauretania and her sister the Lusitania were the first large ocean liners to make use of steam turbines. At the time of completion, Mauretania was the largest ship in the world, surpassed only in 1911 by the Olympic (sister ship to the Titanic). She was the fastest passenger ship in the world, and remained so for over 20 years. She had a long career, unlike her ill-fated sister, and served until 1934.

RMS AquitaniaThe Aquitania was the Cunard Line's answer to White Star's Olympic Class. Built in 1914, Cunard spared no expense in her luxury. Her public spaces were so opulent that Aquitania earned the nickname "The Ship Beautiful". She served in both world wars, and was finally retired in 1950, giving her a 36 year career - a record that stood unbroken until the Queen Elizabeth II broke it in 2004, ultimately serving for 40 years.

She is the last surviving White Star vessel.

Dec 11, 2013Barbershop666 posted a message on City-Sized-Mansion Estate Project. All natural blocks eliminated, Bedrock to SkyPosted in: Survival Mode
So ever since I started playing I had began to conceive of a city-sized palace erected mainly for functionality, filling it at minimum with every conceivable automated process of acquiring items that I could, and the rest for artistry, fun, etc. It began with the idea I had for the core of the establishment that would involve having options to go either to the nether or the end quite simply, that the portals are right next to eachother. This journal will illustrate my progress with the project and where I am with it.
It began with a concept of three things: beacon beams, nether portal, and an end portal. This was soon after I had just read about beacons and began to learn about them. One thing I want about this place is that its actually multi-dimensional, and that beacon beams establish the center of the structure within each dimension, so I decided that covering 3 different mineral blocks for each pyramid that supports the beacons to represent each dimension would be cool. Diamond Blocks (And Iron Blocks in the surrounding beacon beam pyramid structures) for the Overworld, Gold Blocks for the Nether dimension, and Emerald blocks for The End.
So this project began with establishing that core, of which I first legitimately mined the diamonds required to build the pyramid to support the 6 beacon effects/beams that would establish the center of the Overworld segment. That's right, I spent weeks mining over 2000 diamonds merely for an aesthetic concept. Am I crazy? Maybe. We'll see.
This was the next part of the concept of the core of the structure I'm building. The beacon beams shine through the end portal, because I thought that would be really cool. I think the concept turned out neatly, in addition to this 3x3 area that represents the center of the square.
The next part of the process involved digging out all the stone and stronghold that occupied the area around this 3x3 square from which the beacon beams and end portal resides. They look really pretty at night. One vexation was that in my world, my portal had missed taiga generation by only 20 blocks or so, which sucks because it would've looked so beautiful during snowfall. That entire concept was eradicated by a further frustration, however, when in the update to 1.7, minecraft changed all taiga biomes into non-snowing biomes, and added snowy taiga, effectively making all previous 1.6 taiga biomes depressing places when it rains over all the snow that exists from the snowfall they experienced in 1.6. Bad move, Mojang.
As you can see here, much terraforming work has already been completed. I was not thorough in taking screenshots for all my progress, but all that gravel and sand that you can see obviously used to be ocean, filled in by gravity-blocks. The hoppers were my failed attempt at a vanilla chunk loader for an infinite obsidian machine to update the end portal continuously.
Now, this swirly structure in the center happened quite by accident. I got the idea for it in a dream, woke up all groggy, and decided to start building it. Took me about 45 minutes, and was surprised by what I had at the end. The packed ice really came in handy because it looked awesome, glad I had gone hunting for rare 1.7 biomes the day before.
A view of the core from the inside, looking up.
A look inside the core, looking down into the end portal. Ignore the chest, it contains snowballs for my infinite obsidian generator, once I've gotten a ton of double chests of it, I'm just going to clear all that redstone around there out. I chose the stained glass because it looks very futuristic, just behind me is the nether portal.
You can either choose to enter the nether dimension of the city-mansion through that portal, or walk through it, fall through this hole, with which vines stop your fall, and puts you into The End dimension of the multidimensional structure I'm building.
A final version of the bedrock level of the core. Redstone lamps are hidden under those sections of black wool carpet, rest are coal blocks. Added the additional light because there's a slime chunk in here, I keep finding slimes bouncing around down here when I come down. Apparently its still not enough lighting. Will consider a solution later.
I've taken many breaks during different phases of this project to build other things, and when my friend started taming horses en-masse from a plains biome we discovered that had well over 50 horses, I decided to create this general horse field, and through taming/breeding create all 35 permutations of horse variants. Next to it you can see an oak tree farm with a field of hoppers under it designed to capture all apples. Both of these things right next to the land marked for digging to bedrock to free up all space to begin building.
I wasn't sure how far out I was going to mark and dig completely to bedrock, the land centered around the core. I decided to make it slightly ambitious in my own view and do a 200x200 area marked out in the pictures of below. I had marked this out a long time ago, cleared out all trees a long time ago, and eliminated the ocean/river sections within this marked out space quite a while ago. No pictures of that progress, but you can see me eliminating the natural dirt, and the sand I used to eliminate the water in the progress below.
After the dirt was cleared, I realized that the beacon effects emanating from the core weren't enough to cover the entire area with Haste 2, the power I need in combination with Efficiency V that allows Stone to be mined spontaneously, like you can do with dirt and efficiency IV diamond shovels. I needed 4 more beacon pyramids, and wanted them to give you all powers just like the center one does.
Unfortunately, since the showmonsters mod hasn't been updated to 1.7 yet, and I really wanted to get this project on the road, I decided to run around a nether fortress and only acquire 12 wither skulls without creating a wither skeleton farm (yet) so I can have 4 beacons that covers the rest of the area with haste 2 so that we can mine with the benefits of that power in the entire area.
Thanks to some help from some guys here on the forum, I figured out something I should've known months ago, Anvil mechanics. I calculated how many more pickaxes with Unbreaking III it was going to take to get myself to bedrock, which was something around 320 diamond pickaxes that I would have to fully enchant. Fortunately, now that I know that the repair cost of a pickaxes freezes when you rename it, I found that you can repair Efficiency V Unbreaking III pickaxes while keeping the enchantment. So instead of making 320 individual enchanted pickaxes, I'll be restoring the same double chest of Efficiency V Unbreaking III diamond pickaxes you see here, around 6 times. Then I'll be at bedrock level, which is great. I restored the entire chest today, it only took 5 or 6 hours, and that's great. These next pictures depict my progress this week and last week of digging through the stone.
And for those of you who will say that you can see I'm cheating because you can see that I'm in creative mode for a lot of these screenshots, calm yourself, I don't. I'm a mod on the server I play on, I switch into creative mode when I want to fly up and get a good shot of what I'm building, and thats it. I'm going to cut that habit out and just pillar up from now on, though. This will be continually updated.
Its only subtly revealed, but I have been reaching many levels of the stronghold by now, and have eliminated the top of it. You can see by those moss stone bricks and random doors in the area. I added a massive item elevator nearly 100 blocks high that transports all my full loads into storage so that I'm not going up that ladder, across the bridge, and up the stairs every time. I'm at y:30 now, I had been hitting just iron and coal forever, I have just started to touch lapiz lazuli and gold ore, which is really exciting.
I'm at y:20 now. Just erased the last traces of the floors of the lowest levels of the stronghold. RIP
A picture of my pickaxes when they're spent, and require a trip to the exp farm to refresh. Costs me 162 diamonds every time to refresh, but I think this is the last tool restoring trip I need to take before I reach the bottom. I'm so close now! This is also the very first round where I didn't accidentally break any of them.
y:12. I've exposed the bottom overworld lava ponds, my outer-beacon pyramids, and the base of the core. There's a double slime chunk outlined, and dug to bedrock on the left, that I'm going to turn into a slime farm. Bedrock is just around the corner . . .
Bedrock looks interesting from this high up. Its like you were playing minesweeper and you just lost.
So yeah, I'm done. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some hardcore sorting to do.
So I finished sorting. There are 512 double chests here.
64x54 = 3456 cobblestone per double chest.
3456x512 = 1,769,472 cobblestone
After that, I got started working on the floor. I used a slime chunk locator, and marked out the chunks. I then cleared all the stone/dirt/sand/lava within the tangled bedrock, and replaced it with green glass, (to match slimes so that the floor is now spawnproof from slimes during the day. The double chunk on the left I will make into a slime farm.
Next will be the rest of the floor, the same process. Making it completely spawn proof, but with a different colored glass. I think I've decided on red glass. I'll get started on that tomorrow, going to sleep for now.
I know its been a while since I've updated this, but trust me, I haven't stopped on the project. A LOT has happened.
First, I began ripping the stone, sand, gravel, dirt, and occasional lava out of the pockets that they resided in until there was nothing but bedrock. Then, when an entire horizontal section was completed, I'd fill the top layer with glass to make a bedrock/glass spawnproof basement floor.
I hated this work the most because it was monotonous and much more difficult than the previous removal of stone I was experiencing. But after a few days of hard work, and a revamping of the external beacon pyramids, the finished product was finally here.
I took a break for a few days after that, and came back with a much bigger goal than my 1.7 million cobblestone. I plan on farming over 3 million obsidian. It started with this chunk loader, which I JUST finished now. My first attempt at this a month ago failed, but I just went into the end, the platform does indeed refresh, which means the redstone in this area is operating even with me being out of the dimension. Next is to get a lot of snowballs. I'm not sure how many snowballs I'm going to need, but I want to get the amount of obsidian in one fell swoop, so I'm going to need to figure that out . . .
Jan 28, 2015Kizari posted a message on how can i make creepers stop blowing up my house as easy whats the best blocks to useI'm surprised nobody here has mentioned half slabs. If you cover your floor in a layer of half slabs creeper explosions won't do anything to them. Not sure how well that works for walls but for floors and roofs it works great. As was said before water also all but nullifies a creeper explosion. Obsidian is immune to blast but ugly and hard to obtain. Any solid blocks are good such as stone, but snow, sand and dirt not so much. Another good method of prevention is lighting up the area around your base. Also creepers are terrified of cats so if you tame some cats you can breed them and set up a perimeter of cats around your base and/or have some follow you around.Posted in: Survival Mode
Aug 4, 2014Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from TheFaultyMinecartThis is by far the most generic idea I've ever heard. So many people have already built Atlantis and even more have built underwater bases. It's completely not original and the idea has been around even before minecraft came out. No support
Just because it's "generic" doesn't mean it's something that sucks. If the person building it is having a good time and has something to do then it doesn't matter. Is it such a big deal what they are building?
I love the gate design you used
Jul 23, 2014I just want to point out a few things:Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
1. God isn't the result of a logical argument, but an axiom in a logical system. As such, God doesn't need to be logical.
2. Atheism and agnosticism are not default positions. The default position is NULL. It is a non-position. (Even Richard Dawkins goes on rants about the labelling and "claiming" of children by certain groups)
