I have a mod pack problem though - it appears that some blocks aren't showing the correct png when placed. EG: Uncut marble is showing up as jungle logs.
one of the sandstone variants is coming up as a different stone.
Had the block id's changed over the last month from the previous version?
Version 2.0.1 working great on Windows 10 with a 20k by 20k map. Thanks for the pencil tool! I was trying to change just the first block of each layer. I used it set to radius 2 then went back with grass set to the lower level mask. I was really having trouble doing this with version 1.1.1.
Thanks Glim and Megistus! I think the stone slab might work out. The Cyan Clay showed up bluish in the item selector so I didn't try it out. Should have went into the debugger to see them all
What a great update - I've started a new map to celebrate and have completed a working lighthouse built out of "steel plate" (light gray wool). I'll have some pics up soon and a tutorial vid. I was working on the light keeper's house and was needing some interior detail. I might be blind but I hadn't seen a good "plaster" block - am I missing seeing it? There's just so many wonderful textures I might have went by it.
I was going to look in some of the older alt packs and Megistis' emporium. I can always use one from Conquest and upscale it to 64x. Any recommendations?
Coal's not so bad actually - look at all the nice things we can do with it :). I understand about intellectual rights (having created content for public use prior) and knowing the way items are "appropriated" on the internet.
No real need of apologies! Real life should always take precedent (especially during holidays) and it takes quite a long time to get graphics just right. I know it takes me quite a long to get even simple blocks just right.
Nope C# is free as is C++. Java may be a bit easier to write but you do need to be pretty savvy to get exceptional performance from it. I'm learning all sorts of tricks as I work on my new game project. Version 1.8 has some really great features that make it even easier to code GUIs and logics. I prefer not to code in C# since it was developed by M$ to speed XBOx dev.
Don't forget - M$ Xbox Minecraft had been ported to C# so the base code is already there. We'll see who the new members that join Mojang - any C# experience will show the direction they will be going.
But switching to C# doesn't mean anything in the long run - they still could expose an API for modding,
"C# is just a lower quality version of Java. And you'll get a lot less mods, since you have to pay big bucks for the development environment. C++ apps are typically less stable."
I've been developing software and operating systems for 30 years. Any programming language has issues. It's all dependent on the skill level of the programmer.
That's not quite true... C# is free thru Visual Studio. C++ is very bad at garbage collection and is very easy to write poor code. Java has issues also.
The latest version of Java is quite speedy on all platforms. But to keep that speed when developing graphics intensive apps requires some specialized skills and intimate knowledge of the mechanics of the language. That sort of skill set is hard to find.
Hopefully they will allow Searge to finish the MCP and we can have mods for the last Mojang release. I see moving MC to C# but I don't see them stopping resource pack development. I don't think they'll kill modding since that and the resource packs are what make the community so passionate. Microsoft desperately wants to be more relevant in the cloud and this is their way in. Now that the evil duo is gone, we may have some hope.
I've never been part of an acquisition that went well for the employees. I hope Notch takes care of them because M$ won't. And M$ stated they will be making the ROI by the end of 2015, so I see more charges coming, with the first being Minecraft 2.0.
Microsoft will probably move to C#. The Xbox platform is already written in this, so a port to c# would not be very difficult. C# is also supported on all OS (using Mono on Linux). Microsoft doesn't have any applications written in Java, so I don't expect this to continue.
If the New and Improved Microsoft was smart, they would expose a modding API and release a free development kit. The community thrives on mods and the ability to customize the look and feel through resource packs. If they want to keep making $$$$, they won't kill this. What this would allow is a better Minecraft on console and mobile platforms.
I expect them to charge for the new version since they have stated the ROI should be realized by the end of 2015. I expect a different charge for the server version if they release it - possibly they move to cloud services to hook up all versions together. If this happens, it will probably be a small subscription fee.
They will crack down on licensing fees. Any of the images being used for free will now cost a bit to license.
Watch the Twitter verse for the signs. Searge may not be allowed to release MCP for 1.8. The developers may start to mention learning to code a different way, or post some snippet in c#.
Not much should change until January. We'll just have to see what happens in the next few weeks. I expect the meetings are already getting set up.
At least we can keep the everything up to 1.8 and still run it. I don't intend to spend $30 for Minecraft 2.0. I don't see there being that much value in an update to buy it. $10 maybe....
Hopefully the future of Minecraft will be ok. Microsoft desperately wants to be a player in the cloud and this is the way to accomplish it.
There will be a convertor just like the last time. The biggest benefit will be individual blocks. I think the metadata might be eliminated. Not sure about biome specific blocks either
You must be joking. If u cant download pls uninstall OS.
OK -- People are not IDIOTS because they say they can't download. Ad.focus is being difficult with forcing you to download FLV Player 2x before Conquest will download. Trying Ravand.org does the same thing. Here's the procedure:
You will need to click on the "x" when FLV Player popup comes up. This will download the setup which you need to delete later. Click on the skip box in the upper right corner. Click OK to leave page, yet another FLV download will start. Then Conquest will finally download. Delete the two Player downloads without installing.
