The board also seems to lag from the sheer number of JavaScript functions it calls.
Also, you've got quite a few JavaScript errors. You should look into them.

Yeah, I'm getting hundreds of errors in my web developer console also, and a lot of 404s for images. It looks like this mix of multiple systems is not completely thought out.
Everything is so much slower than before. This may be what keeps me off the forums for good.

Yeah, that's my guess too. I'll bet the picture was snapped after the player cut down a tree that was where he was standing.

I understand this to mean that they can appear any time that leaves are removed (ie. when smashed by hand, or when the trunk that supports them is removed).
If the 1/200 number is accurate, then a tree with 50 leaves would have about a 1/4 chance of dropping an apple.
That seems to be rather logical, but it means the picture I posted before is kind of misleading. Oh well, it was just a picture I found on reddit.

As far as reporting the bug, the 6 releases that I didn't post the bug for, no one posted it. I was late posting it for 1.9 PR5 and for 1.0 RC 2, so others definitely had chances.
I was pretty shocked when I realized that no one actually had, and decided at that point to take charge in every way I could. I even started forum threads here and in the seeds forum about it.
Thinking about it, there was one other post about this that was not made by me, that did get some fairly big traction. It was a post to reddit. So, you are right, I should recognize that it was not just my effort.
Still, I was beginning to feel guilty for spamming information about this bug everywhere(forums, twiki, reddit, twitter), and seeing it finally fixed makes me realize all the spam was worth it.
As far as the apples, I found this. Quoting it:
So, that seems to indicate that they appear either when the sapling sprouts or during harvest. The screenshot makes it look like it's not during harvest, so I'm going to go out on a limb (pun intended), and guess that it is when the sapling grows.

I want to see evidence, please. I've searched every official and unofficial bug list for mention of taigas and mention of snow, and every time the bug has been reported, it is always by 'Chezzik'.
There is one place I reported it with a name other than Chezzik. That username begins with a 'U'. I'll be impressed if you can find it though.
I'm pretty sure it's not the latter. The pics I've seen look exactly like the standard pine forest, just with snow added.
I agree with you. I think we should have at least double the number of types of biomes, or there should be ways that they can blend. Unfortunately, that's asking for a lot. Turning the snow flag back on for a single biome was a much easier fix.
I'm at work, so I can't really play it to find out, but...
I think that they can grow on the tree, based on this pic:

Yeah, and actually, I'd like to take some of the credit for that.
EDIT: As others have pointed out, "taking credit" is probably not the best choice of words. Maybe I should have said that I feel like I was most likely the one who brought it to the devs attention.
If you search for Taiga on the known bugs talk page for 1.9 PR5, you'll see I added it in there, but apparently it was too late to be noticed.
I also posted it to the official bug list in this forum, but it went unnoticed there.
I posted it to several bug report lists on reddit, and got replies from other players, but it was not noticed by devs.
Finally, I created a twitter account, and tweeted Jeb about it, right after 1.0 RC 2 went out. I never got a response.
Once 1.0.0 was officially released, I was quite disappointed to see Taigas missing. I found an official bug list on the twiki for 1.0.0, but it was just cloned from the previous release, and there was no talk page. So, I created the talk page, and put Taigas at the freakin' top, so that it could not be missed.
Guess it worked! :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif:

The writer of it has done a lot of checking into how the positions are chosen. Only three positions are chosen, and they are chosen when the world is first created from the seed.

Right above you, someone posted a link to Coupon22's new version of this mod:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/658494-181100coupons-mod-updates/
You could have
But instead of doing any of those things, you replied to the enormously long and enormously out-of-date original post, thus making the link to the new version harder to find. You completely ignored every message on this page, and restarted the discussion again, ignoring all the work that has been done, completely negating the idea of a "thread".
Good job :/

There wasn't any fire changes that I know of. My guess is that you don't understand the full details of how fire spreads, and you did something different after the update than before. Check out the following topic:
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/328840-predicting-and-preventing-fire-spread/
As you can see in the picture, none of the wood has an air block above it. So, it can't catch fire. You probably had a similar house before the update, but now you've changed something small, creating an air block above wood. Once there's one, then the whole structure is in danger.
Why don't you post pictures of your design, or send them to me in a PM? I have many working versions of minecraft, so I can try the same design in multiple versions (ie 1.7.3, 1.8.1, 1.9 PR 5, and 1.0.0) I can let you know if anything has changed.

The biomes have names, and even though they are unofficial, it's better to use them than just saying "snow biome."
In beta 1.7.3, there were 2 biomes that had snow: Tundras and Taigas.
In beta 1.8, the Tundras were converted into ice plains (huge and flat, with rivers). Taigas (pine forests) were given medium hills. Unfortunately, neither had snow, due to some bug.
In 1.0.0, the biomes were mostly left alone, other than adding the mooshroom and a couple of tweaks. Tundra snow was fixed. Taigas are still broken. I was quite mad. I had posted about this bug everywhere I could during the 1.0 release candidates, and had even made a twitter account just to tweet Jeb about it. Of course, he ignored me.
Well, since 1.0.0 Taigas (pine forests) are still broken, I did the best I could. I made sure that I was the first to post to the new bug page, and I got my post at the very top:
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Talk:Known_bugs/Version_1.0.0
If you agree and think it's a big issue, then post a comment under mine, saying that you also think it is an urgent issue that should be fixed. Maybe it will be fixed in the first point release.
To answer your original question, keep walking, and you'll eventually get out of the taiga biome. Then you'll see other trees.

One of the biggest issues with tundras is that they are always flat and boring. The only place to find high altitude snow is places where extreme hills and tundras merge. This seed has a few of those:

I didn't know he played minecraft!

Well, I kind of agree with you, except for the word 'updated'. Why update? I don't update, I just download a fresh copy, and keep all old versions in such a way that they are still playable any time I want.
How? Simple. Just write a 2-line .bat file as described on this blog. Copy-pasta the minecraft.exe installer, and let it install a fresh copy!!

Words as true today as they were 1.5 years ago when they were first spoken. Once I found out how small the save files were, I got into a habit of backing up each world each night after playing.

I don't understand this.
The suggestion was to get the seed from your world on the server, and then make a new single player world with the seed. Did you do this?
When you say that the "structures were the same", do you mean NPC villages?
What is the seed? Let one of us try it, and we'll tell you if we get snow at the spawn area. You can also use AMIDST to generate a 1.0.0 biome map for the seed you have.
