I'm actually very happy with the terrain update, I mean we got variation, a temperature system, and heck (This is my opinion) they even thought of a way to keep the extreme hills from being a completley useless and lifeless biome. The only stuff not fixed is stuff I think is small; the cave generation and beaches. Very happy with this, along with most of the rest of the Minecraft fanbase.
Here's a glimpse of a Taiga M biome (new variation of a normal taiga) next to an Extreme Hills. They blend pretty nice with each other. Although use of less technical biomes for height variation would be nice...
Extreme Hills in general look a lot better with the snow caps and stone, and can actually take advantage of the height limit now. I saw one go around Y 200.
+1 I'm one of the people who this update basicly fixed almost every problem I had, a few more I have, but they are just small.
Has anyone else noticed that jungle and desert are much more rare now?
...or is that just my seed?
Nah not your seed, I noticed it too, I flew over a world in creative for atleast 15 minutes, no jungles. The world feels a lot warmer with the transitions, though.
Yep. However, I didn't see anything about height in "The solution to these problems" section. I guess it's better to wait for a snapshot.
Also, "the old generator created the elevation first, and decided on biomes based on elevation" is not true.
Yeah, one of the problems they stated was "Not enough variation", but they never said anything really on height variation. They did say this though "… and most biomes have uncommon/rare variations that you may run into" . I hope that they aren't talking about the height variation, though, because the do say the variations would be rare, not random.
I have to see more, and I hate to flood, but it sure looks like from that over view the transitions are a lot smoother, looks like a temperature system to me! It's nice to see with that picture that maybe they listened to the thread.
I like the new biome, need some work but I don't mind it. Just adding biome wont fix anything, but don't be so harsh on the devs just from one screenshot. Nobody knows what else might come
They did change the options menu's and fixed the black lighting spots and the pregenerated torches lighting. Jeb said that they canyon now has canyons in it, I do not know if its a coincidence that the canyon is next to sand, or if they have implemented a temperature system. I am going to wait until they show more, like Jeb said, this is all a work in progress.
Hey, actually a long while ago a few people were talking about this kind of biome. The bad thing from the picture there is, it looks flat. But it is pretty early.
EDIT: Well actually, that looks pretty nice, I'll have to see more of it.
Even though I really want them to make the terrain to be random, think it would still be cool if they added a few more biomes, but if anything I'm hoping they do a complete remodel on it.
Because biome update can mean multiple things, more biomes, changing existing biomes, biome terrain changes, etc. We'll probably see what will really happen in a few weeks once the snapshots come out.
Yeah, I'm really curious as to what they're gonna do.

Well, maybe more random? In some places there are only like 3 or 4 veins every 30 blocks or so, and some areas they are every where.

Oh O.k. I feel bad now, please except my apology.

Reminds me of those Youtube videos with English titles, yet the person speaking on the video is speaking in a foreign language.
