Well, I'm not sure if the PC version of the 1.8 terrain is identical to the 360 version of the 1.8 terrain.
Basically this thread explains what I'm saying + the threads in the related section.

There is a difference between what is charitably called "bitching" or just complaining because you hate something and some objective criticism that gets into specifics about why you don't like how it works. Even better is something more like constructive criticism where not only do you point out specific details, but how it could be improved in a realistic fashion.
Pointing out bugs that simply shouldn't be there (especially game crashing situations which make the game simply unplayable) or very odd behavior that impacts previous game play in a negative manner is certainly worth mentioning.
Far too often what I see is just complaints about the game because it is a change, or that unrealistic expectations are being made by certain players critical of Mojang. Often it is complaints (like those critical of the SP/MP merger) who are just plain ignorant of what is going on. None of those kind of complaints are helpful to improving the game at all.

Yeah, that's pretty much what he said.
See what our collective complaining has accomplished? Unprogress. If we never get a new biome again it'll be because of the community.Worth noting selectable terrain generators would please both ends of the argument.

I love how your life is arguing about the terrain.
Youre so obsessed about how bad it is. Why not look at the good features?
Its like raging about how your computer is crappy all day long. In the end you dont get anything out of it. Its just tiring and immature.
If you hate it so much grab a bunch of devs and create a mod for all your 2000 supporters. Obviously Mojang isn't going to do anything about it so it is pointless and immature to rant about how bad it is for your whole life.

I heard that as "When we change the terrain we get lots of negative feedback, so we want to avoid doing it"

Next thing you know, you people will want rotary phones and 8-track tapes.
Again, if there are mods that do what you want, then there is no reason to change it in vanilla, and the more you guys complain about it, the less likely it is that jeb will change anything at all. He's already proven to be quite stubborn, and the tactics some of these people use to persuade him, just **** him off.
Nice complaint thread you've got there, btw, I don't understand how it has been alive that long without being locked, there is nothing but whining and grumbling on it. Not one constructive thought on there, just hate and butthurt.

if this really is xbox , they should keep the 1.7.3 terrain as an experamint , see how people like it , but if Notch is secretly sneaking into mojangs offices late at night to work on minecraft .... awwww yeaaaa. but other than that , people keep saying the terrain is becoming more realistic and boring , if they are going to make it more realistic i want platos and vallys , along with (if you have ever been to the badlands south dakota) the odd terrain of the badlands. also 1.7.3 had there magical do hicky , differnt terrain generater that made, cold can not be by hot. i still think Notch should secretly work on minecraft tho

I think that anyone that complains about the current terrain is just being a whiny douche. I've been playing for a year and a half, and I love every single time they change terrain generation, because it keeps the game fresh and interesting. I don't understand people who want the game to stagnate and never advance or add features.
I'm of the opinion that if you want to play the old generation, there are plenty of mods and utilities out there that will let you do that, so people need to STFU and stop giving Jeb grief about trying new things.

Jeb was complaining that every time he hits the terrain generators that it is the one thing he is guaranteed to catch a whole bunch of flak from the player community. I suppose he is right about that too, although I'd like to see decent beaches again. Mainly Jeb was saying that tweaking terrain generators was very nearly the last thing he cares to get into now... and suggesting that if one of the other developers want to be brave they can take over that aspect of the game.
The problem is that each time he touches the terrain generator, it also impacts the seeds... and there definitely is a part of the player community that loves their seeds and sharing them... or getting pissed when their seed no longer generates the awesome features they thought they had.

Bumping this because this really needs more recognition. We really need to find a way to get more oceanic parts without screwing up the beaches (e.g. raising the sea level). Very good find.

Exploration is different for everybody, because some people like exploring for structures and strongholds and whatnot. For the most part, this group of people is satisfied.
Then there's a group of people who like exploring for unique landforms, gravel beaches, nice sand beaches, floating islands, caves (because caves are always easy to find now), etc. The last time this group was satisfied, for the most part, was in beta-1.7.3, but even that generator wasn't perfect.
^edited due to confusing sentence structure.
The poll is asking a very broad question, so I cannot answer.

Yes and no.
Dinnerbone responds to first letter.
Dinnerbone agrees to implement something that can set the frequency for biome appearance
Most likely, it will be implemented, but this will not change the situation unless they restore randomness again.

Reread the OP.

It's something that won't solve the issue unless randomization is restored.

The old generator is called the OLD generator for a reason. Either we need steady updates to the generator or we need a complete overhaul.

The problem with the Minecraft community (MCF included) is that many people don't realize that this game is really not optimized and has way too many unpolished, unfinished, and ultimately iffy features that need to be worked on. Instead, they ask for MOAR. Then MOAR gets implemented, and the community has fun for 1-2 weeks, and then everything gets boring again.

The Reddit community seems very discombobulated. I saw a comment discussing on how EH mountains could be made higher. The main comment discusses the importance of a terrain update but only elaborates on potential new features, and not restoring variation that was present in pre-1.8.
Reddit makes me mad.

What's so impractical about restoring options to the people?

I keep seeing the phrase "good seeds."
The thing is that all seeds are the same with the exception of where things are. In 1.7, finding the Glacier mountains on a seed that isn't Glacier is extremely possible--it just wouldn't be ideal to be searching for them. The same thing goes for seeds today, except that finding anything close to them is impossible. One seed isn't better than another. It's just convenient to be able to pick them because a lot of people are too lazy to explore.
Simply enough, we are limited to flat land, hilly land, or mountainous land that all cannot be found within each other. They're all separated out like city-zoning regions. It sucks.

Pre-1.8 wasn't as limited as the current terrain generrator we have now. Sure, the majority of the land that is currently given to us is flat, but its always like this. In pre-1.8, if you didn't like a piece of land, then you could travel somewhere else (heck, it could even be the same biome) and your chances of finding something different were high. Now, every forest biome looks the same, every desert looks the same, every jungle looks the same, every taiga looks the same, and Mojang tries to compensate this with X-hills biomes, which are just as predictable as the previously mentioned biomes. Maybe you enjoy seeing predictability everywhere you go, but a lot of people would like to see cave-size variation, height variation, and the return of the less-predictable beaches (including gravel beaches). If varying terrain was existent, there would be no reason to complain.
