Thank you, looking at it now. It seems exactly like what I was trying to do by running the official MC server on Windows... just a third party version of it. The only comments from a user thats tried it that I could find in brief search aren't encouraging though: "doesn't seem to work that well for me,the map seems to constantly shift, very weird" with the response from the developer being: "That's a limitation imposed by Mojang ;)"
Not sure what to make of that...
Its nothing to worry about. The reason there are problems with the map sometimes in PocketMine, is due to the way multiplayer in Minecraft Pocket Edition works. The way the game handles chunk loading over multiplayer is a bit inefficient and does not work as smoothly as it could. This will probably be changed in a future update, but for now it is how it is, and PocketMine still is probably the best way for you to have your son and his friend play together.
On the gamepedia page for MCPE there is this info:
Multiplayer allows for 3 ways of player connection:
- Through a LAN, allowing for 10 players to be on a single server
- Through Minecraft Realms (as of version 0.7.1)
- Through a user-created external servers (as of version 0.7.4)
So, I'm intrigued by the last bullet... but am not finding readily available information about how to actually do it with the answer to my original question being 'no' to cross platform. The closest I've found so far is mention of a third-party app that came out awhile ago called "Multiplayer for Minecraft PE" but when I search on Google Play for that exact text - I just get an ocean of hits on things not THAT. Older forum posts also call into question if the MCPE devs might block it in newer game updates, so since I got my son the latest version - I don't know if it will even work if I DO find it on Google Play...
Any guidance? I'm not looking to pay any subscriptions, but even if I were my kid would then need his buddies' parents to be willing as well, which won't happen.
If you are looking for an good way for your son and his friend to play together, you may want to consider using PocketMine. What PocketMine is, it is a software that runs on your PC, and allows you users to play together Minecraft Pocket Edition in that world that is hosted on your PC. As long as the program is running on your PC, anyone who is whitelisted (given permission to) to the server, can join into the server on their mobile devices to play Minecraft Pocket Edition together. http://www.pocketmine.net/

If you are trying to upload your skin to your MCPE account, please keep in mind that Minecraft Pocket Edition currently does not support custom skins. The developers are adding this in the future, but it is currently not possible without game hacks.
Well, why doesn't Apple let you beta test then? =(
Apple does have a way to beta test apps; however it is much more complicated and it's limited to 100 people per year. Google has a much simpler method, and fixes to apps in the beta test can be uploaded much faster and they will also auto update new versions of the beta to devices on the test, making it much easier for developers to push out fixes in the testing product.
HI Chad - thanks for the pointer but how can I get a login to the bug tracker? I have to ask a JIRA admin, apparently...
OK, sorry about that. The links to the bug tracker have changed and are now located at http://www.bugs.mojang.com . Please use this link until the forum links for the bug tracker are changed. Also, please make sure you are reporting the bug in the MCPE section.
If you are still experiencing this problem, please submit a ticket via the bug reporting system. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/179-mcpe-bug-tracker/ . I have tried everything I can to help, but am still not coming up with anything. I never have problems on either of my Nexus devices both on stock 4.4.2.
When Android 4.4 comes out for the Note 3, will I be able to update? I thought I have heard that a device has to be unlocked (mine is on contract). If I am able to update, how will I?
Also, I still have this extremely annoying "widget" on my lock screen. I don't know if I can actually call it a widget, though. It doesn't move, no matter what. I can't delete it. It's that stupid WatchOn thing. I really need it gone.
When Android 4.4 is available for your device, it will alert you in the notification drawer that an update is available. And no, your device does not need to be unlocked to receive official device updates. For the widget, you should be able to swipe down across the widget to expand it. You can then long press it and drag it to the trash icon.

I hope. My guess is early march. Thank God they're starting a new beta testing group, someone was posting illegal .Apk's in the current one. Honestly, i think a lot of PE players are too immature to beta test.
Unfortunately so. The current beta group has turned into a sinkhole of destruction and chaos. I wonder how they are going to do a beta test on the next one (if at all).
Is it just me, or do Blacksmith shops no longer generate in villages? I was looking around trying to find the new Christmas surprise, and i found several villages, all without blacksmith shops.?!?

As stated in forum rules, do not post topics or posts pertaining to Herobrine. Herobrine isn't real, never has been real, and probably never will be.

Most MCPE servers that require a user to register, require the /register passwordhere. After that is completed, you can do /login passwordhere.
