Intro:
Hey guys! I was here for a while ago but got involved in life, but recently I started trying to do a texture pack for Minecraft.
Its still far from being done, but I wanted to post some pics and see if people would give a, erm, crap, if I finished it.
Pack Style:
I was trying to create a smooth, colorful texture for minecraft, but still keep it 16x. I also want it to blend nicely, but still have the blocks retain their individual colors.
Is it Finished?
If you didn't read above, it is not finished, far from it in fact. I've only been working on it for a few days and so only have a handful of terrain blocks done.
Thanks much mate. I'm trying to cut down on the blur. I've defined the ores much better than they were. Some of the textures are really blurry still though as I tend to work on them in stages. A few did have noise applied, but not many.
None of them were resized except the brick texture which I'm working on right now.
Thanks so much for all the cc, I'll keep improving on the pack and updating it :biggrin.gif:
I'll help out :biggrin.gif:
I'm working on two packs right now, what's a third to the pile eh? lol
PM me with what you need me to do and I'll get to it.
As well, 16x?
First the good: I like that you try to do some things differently then standard Minecraft, and I can definitely see you putting in effort with a lot of textures.
That said, your execution is lacking in a number of cases:
-In general, a lot of your textures are either too muddy or too noisy. There are a few tiling problems as well.
-You could make separate textures for the different logs instead of just recolouring one. The little extra effort is going to do a lot for atmosphere.
-The lines on the planks are unclear. I cannot make out if it is supposed to be two planks or one wood log.
-The ores are blurry and muddy, but it is good that you at least try to make each different, which is something a lot of people don't do.
-The stone texture is overly noisy and has that dark spot on the left side that stands out when it tiles.
-Gravel actually looks less like gravel than the stone texture. Why do you go for big dark spots here, and noise on the stone?
-Gold, diamond and iron are all just recoloured. Making a new texture for each would be good.
-Glowstone is just way too noisy, it stands out even in comparison to your other noisy textures.
-The stone bricks seem to have slightly different colours. This will stand out a lot in strongholds.
-The crafting equipment is what I would criticize most. They are extremely noisy, don't match your other colour, have that red trim (as well as that terrible blue lock on the chest) which just does not fit, and are just the original, boring Minecraft designs.
-The pumpkin is very muddy. You can hardly see any definition on it at all.
Well, I think you get the general idea... Lay off the noise and blur a little, and think through what you are trying to do with your textures more thoroughly. I think there is a lot of potential in this pack if you refine your technique a bit, get a clearer vision of what you want to do, and put in a little more effort. There is no need to rush your pack out just for the sake of it.
Thank you so much for the criticism :biggrin.gif:
I will work on the textures and try to clean them up a little.

Alright, see what you think now, the cobblestone has a slightly less harsh glint to it and Coal, Gold, and Diamond tile better.

I must have skipped over that in the rules, I'll have a download up shortly.
I agree, I was kinda on edge on whether or not to change it.

Would you mind if I requested some mob skins from you? Just a pig, cow, chicken and sheep for my pack?

This looks pretty simple and the shadings and noise is bad. :sad.gif: I'm sure you'll do a bit better with paintnet or gimp. :smile.gif:

Any name suggestions? I'm horrible at such things.

As well, I posted it above, but unless you ask me first, please don't edit my pack or change/add textures to it.
Thanks :smile.gif:
