Hi guys, Vechs here! I started making custom stuff for Minecraft back in 2010, and the Super Hostile series is my best-known contribution to Minecraft fans everywhere!

The main objective of my maps (aka custom Minecraft worlds) is to find and complete the Victory Monument. This is a structure with slots on it for blocks. To win a Super Hostile map, you must place each of the requested blocks in the appropriate slot on the Victory Monument. There are 16 colors of wool blocks to find, and also in older maps, the 3 material blocks, of iron, gold, and diamond.

CTM stands for Complete the Monument, which is the genre my Super Hostile series created. Unlike Adventure maps, which typically have very rigid rules and restrictions, CTM maps are about playing Minecraft in a mostly normal fashion, but with a goal to work towards.

For the most part, Super Hostile is like playing Minecraft normally, but it's more difficult and you have a long-term goal to work towards. Also you may find yourself in some unusual terrain. Oh, and the map is designed to kill you, so keep that in mind.

Going forward, Super Hostile maps made after 2020 now also require a custom modpack, which can be found here:

The main resoucepack

Open Minecraft and navigate to “Options” then “Resource Packs”.
Click “Open resource pack folder”.
Download the version of the pack for the version of Minecraft you’re playing and place the zip in your resourcepacks folder.
Go back to Minecraft (you might need to exit the resourcepacks screen and re-open it).
Click the pack to enable it.
Click “Done” and wait for Minecraft to load the textures.

If the pack fails to load either assign more RAM to Minecraft or use lower resolution textures.

If you have previously used MCPatcher for HD Textures, HD Fonts or Better Grass (important)

Follow these steps to prevent a possible "Black Screen" problem when installing OptiFine:

1. Temporarily revert back to the Default Texture Pack.

2. Uninstall the HD Textures, HD Fonts, and Better Grass mods from the MCPatcher. These functions are included in OptiFine.

3. Set Graphics to Fancy

4. Install OptiFine and test with the Default Texture Pack to make sure everything is working.

5. Select your previous texture pack and graphics settings

6. Run Minecraft and enjoy

Compatibility with other mods

When installing OptiFine together with other mods always make sure to install OptiFine last. The only exception are mods which are designed to be installed after OptiFine and say so in their install instructions.

If you need ModLoader: Install OptiFine AFTER ModLoader.

If you need Forge: Install OptiFine AFTER Forge.

MCPatcher is NOT needed for HD textures, HD fonts and BetterGrass, they are included in OptiFine. Install OptiFine without MCPatcher's HD features for best performance.

If you need DynamicLights (ModLoader edition): Install OptiFine AFTER DynamicLights.

Compatible with: ModLoader, Forge, SinglePlayerCommands, TooManyItems, PlasticCraft, CJB's Modpack, Zan's Minimap, Rei's Minimap, DynamicLights, GLSL Shaders 2, LittleBlocks and many other.

Installation

- Start the official launcher and play

- Double-click the downloaded JAR file and the OptiFine installer should start

- Click "Extract" and save the OptiFine MOD file

- Start Magic Launcher

- Click "Setup"

- Select Environment "1.6.2"

- Click "Add" -> select the OptiFine MOD file

- Click "OK"

- Login and play

C. Complex

- Use the official launcher to download and start once Minecraft 1.6.2.

- Go to the minecraft base folder (the official launchers shows it when you click "Edit Profile" as "Game Directory")

- Go in subfolder "Versions"

- Rename the folder "1.6.2" to "1.6.2_OptiFine"

- Go in the subfolder "1.6.2_OptiFine"

- Rename "1.6.2.jar" to "1.6.2_OptiFine.jar"

- Rename "1.6.2.json" to "1.6.2_OptiFine.json"

- Open the file "1.6.2_OptiFine.json" with a text editor and replace "id":"1.6.2" with "id":"1.6.2_OptiFine" and save the file

- Copy the files from the OptiFine ZIP file in "1.6.2_OptiFine.jar" as usual (you can use the 1.5.2 instructions for this) and remove the META-INF folder from "1.6.2_OptiFine.jar".

- Start the official launcher

- Click "Edit Profile" - Select "Use version:" -> "release 1.6.2_OptiFine"

- Click "Save Profile"

- Click "Play" or "Login" to start the game. If only "Play Offline" is available, then log out and log in again to fix it.

Installation for Minecraft 1.6.2 with Forge

A. Easy

- Use the official launcher to download and start once Minecraft 1.6.2.

- Use the Forge installer to install Forge

- Use the official launcher to start once Minecraft with the Forge profile.

- Start Magic Launcher

- Click "Setup"

- Select Environment "Forge9.10.X.Y"

- Click "Add" -> select the OptiFine ZIP file

- Click "Advanced"

- In the field "Parameters" add "-Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true"

- Click "OK"

- Login and play

B. Simple (for OptiFine 1.6.2_C4 and newer)

- Put the OptiFine JAR file in the Forge "mods" folder

- Start Minecraft and Forge should automatically load OptiFine

B. Complex (not working for Forge #780 and #781)

- Use the official launcher to download and start once Minecraft 1.6.2.

- Use the Forge installer to install Forge

- Go to the minecraft base folder (the official launchers shows it when you click "Edit Profile" as "Game Directory")

- Go in subfolder "Versions"

- Go in subfolder "Forge9.10.X.Y"

- Copy the files from the OptiFine ZIP file to "Forge9.10.X.Y.jar" as usual (you can use the 1.5.2 instructions for this) and remove the META-INF folder from "Forge9.10.X.Y.jar".

- Start the official launcher

- Select profile "Forge"

- Click "Edit Profile"

- Select the checkbox "JVM Arguments" and in the field next to it add "-Dfml.ignoreInvalidMinecraftCertificates=true -Dfml.ignorePatchDiscrepancies=true"

- Click "Save Profile"

- Click "Play" or "Login" to start the game. If only "Play Offline" is available, then log out and log in again to fix it.

For Minecraft up to 1.5.2

If possible start with a clean minecraft.jar and check the mod compatibility section above.

A. Easy Installation

1. Download and start the Magic Launcher

2. Click Setup, click Add, select the downloaded zip file

3. Click OK, login and play Minecraft

B. Manual Installation

Windows/Linux Instructions:

1. Locate your minecraft.jar file. On Windows, it's in %APPDATA%/.minecraft/bin

2. Create a backup of minecraft.jar

3. Open minecraft.jar in an archive editor (WinRar/7-Zip/etc)

4. Delete the META-INF folder.

5. Copy (drag and drop) the .class files from the downloaded zip file into the jar file, replacing previous files.

6. Run Minecraft and test!

Mac Instructions:

1. Locate your minecraft.jar file. On Mac, it's in /Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin

2. Create a backup of minecraft.jar

3. Rename minecraft.jar to minecraft.zip and double-click it to extract the contents

4. Rename the resulting folder to minecraft.jar and open it

5. Copy the .class files from the downloaded zip into the minecraft.jar folder, replacing previous files

6. Run Minecraft and test!

1. Download the version of the texture pack you want above

A note on 'Traditional Beauty':

It has come to my attention that a few people believe this to be a copy of 'Traditional Beauty', another variation of the default textures to make them look nicer. 4/8/12 - Complete Mt Pyre! Finished the long route 121. Started LilyCove City and made Fortree Gym much harder.
4/9/12 - Mossdeep City and route 124 complete. Mossdeep Gym complete. Lilcycove, Ever Grande City, Victory Road, all routes complete, finishing touches almost complete, and started Sootpolis City! YUP! All this in one day by one single person

4/10/12 - One day to do my hw and rest. I've been working way too hard, because my eyes are tired and my fingers are sore from placing blocks xD
4/11/12 - Norman's gym complete. It took me about 90 minutes. Altering cave complete.
4/13/12 - Sootopolis City complete. Almost done with Cave of Origin.
4/27/12 - Team Magma and Aqua base complete. More "npcs" added throughout the routes. Start first chamber of the four elite.

Do not post questions here about your problems if you haven't read this post and haven't checked out the wiki. If you ask a stupid question, I will give you a stupid answer. I don't expect you to know everything about this mod or Java or GLSL but I expect you to use common sense. That means if you get an error in the install log, you need to copy and paste it here. Don't just say "the install log says fail".

The heart this mod simply sets up custom GLSL shaders for rendering in a flexible deferred shading pipeline. By default, the shaders implement a depth-of-field effect (by Azraeil) that focuses on whatever you're looking at, as well as waving grass.

Check it out!

Even if depth-of-field isn't for you, there are endless possibilities with GLSL shaders. For example . . .

These videos were made with a previous version of this mod. The previous version's shaders will not work with this version. They need a few minor edits to be ported to the new version. Check the wiki and posts here for ports of the shaders.

The new version of the mod does not yet include anti-aliasing options. However, you can use it to get clean MSAA anti-aliasing without artifacts by forcefully enabling MSAA in your graphics card's control panel, then marking the texture coordinates as "centroid" in the shaders (by changing "varying vec4 texcoord" to "centroid varying vec4 texcoord" wherever you see it).

The mod works nicely with most other mods (including Optifine). Just be sure to install this AFTER your other mods. See the wiki for more information regarding mod compatibility.

The download contains a graphical installer. For a basic installation, just run it and hit the "Install Mods" button. If you have problems installing, hit the "View Log" button and copy/paste that information into a post here. minecraft.jar must be in the same directory as lwjgl.jar. It doesn't matter where the installer is located.

If you have a minecraft installation where minecraft.jar is actually a directory instead of a jar, the installer won't work. I'll probably update this eventually, but for now zip up the minecraft.jar directory, make sure it's still named "minecraft.jar", then install.

Back up minecraft.jar before installing this mod. If your graphics card doesn't support GLSL shaders, this mod won't work! Also, a few ATI cards don't seem to be working correctly (if you're not using Catalyst 11.1 or higher it very likely won't work).

Dynamic Shadows

Using this mod you can enable dynamic sun/moon shadows. If you use one of the shadow shaders and see chunks rapidly appearing and disappearing in the distance, install Optifine then reinstall this mod.

Before the update for Minecraft 1.1.0, the shadow map used a perspective projection. Now, by default it uses an orthogonal projection. For backwards compatibility, including the SHADOWFOV configurable in a shader will force the shadow map to use a perspective projection. If you want to prevent the shadows from moving with you, make sure this line is not present (and optionally replace it with an appropriate SHADOWHPL configurable).

If you've installed a previous copy of this mod, download a fresh copy of minecraft.jar (by forcing an update or deleting the file named "version") or restore a backup minecraft.jar before installing this update.

Known Issues:

The default DoF may incorrectly apply a subtle blur to the sun/moon.
A blur is incorrectly applied to Endermen with the DoF shaders.
The included shadow shaders incorrectly apply shading to the player's hand.
Some people install the mod and can't see any textures. I don't really know what's causing this. However, some people have said installing Optifine before installing this mod fixes the problem. If you'd like to help, go to the Wiki and put your graphics card and driver version in the hardware compatibility section.

Better water (refractions / specular effects).
Better shadows.
Optimize, optimize, optimize.
Compatibility with other mods (such as the water reflections mod).
Add more sample shaders.
In-game menu with more options.
Revamped lighting?
Better motion blur?
GLSL Geometry Shaders?
Fix some of the installer quirks.

Modified / Alternate Versions

A few community members have been making modifications to the mod as well as mods that supplement its functionality (It's open source and I encourage people to do so.). If you do this, you can do what you want with it and distribute it how you want, but I highly recommend putting it on the wiki for everyone to download.

Classes
In PVPZone you can choose from up to 10 unique and powerful classes to take into any battle. You do not have to commit to a single class, you can switch on a whim whenever you want! Pick your favorites and unlock their newer spells to own even harder!

Fighter:
Fighters start off as one of the most basic classes, simple hack and slash. However, as you progress the fighters arsenal grows greatly. His short range puts him at odds against many of the ranged classes, however as you unlock more spells he gains the ability to not only force enemies to come to him, but also to swiftly reach an enemy that is in a medium-range from him. He is also the king of one vs one melee battles, with stunsword and flamesword giving him the advantage.

Tank:
Tanks are the ultimate defensive class. They are built to last with their survival-oriented spells. They are not only one of the best front-line classes in warzones but also excel in Mob Arena with their many mob attracting spells, keeping their enemies safe in the arena and from enemy minions.

Spy:
Spies are based around being unseen by the bewildered opponents. With some disables, good maneuvering, and fast ranged weapons, they're all around good units in almost anything. Take advantage of their disarming and web-binding abilities while using vanish to cross behind enemy lines in order to completely dominate the opposing team from the inside out!

Archer:
Archers are the ultimate rangers. They can snipe enemies from almost anywhere, and if they need some extra space, they have maneuvering skills to get away from the enemy, or even push them back. Combining their amazingly fast accuracy with their magical abilities like explodeshot or lightningarrows will make you the king of the battlefield!

Gunslinger:
Gunslingers, the newest edition to PVPZone and one of the hardest classes to play. Powerful skills like sniper and the blaster shotgun make them powerful in anyone's hands, but having the accuracy and taking advantage of the blaster's knockback capabilities is what sets aside the noob from the pro.

Elemental:
Depending on the play-style, Elementals can do the highest burst damage in the game using spells like freeze and fireball3 allowing instant, fast paced and risky kills. Alternatively they can be played from further back as a ranger, using spells like lavageyser and fireball2 to pick off enemies from afar.

Warlock:
Warlocks is one of the strongest support classes. Trapping enemies, disabling their attacks, and conserving their mana greatly. Alternatively warlocks can deal a very good stream of constant damage to the enemies and summon a variety of minions to help them battle.

Anarchist:
PVPZones most hated class, and the griefers favorite class. Their main weapon being TNT and traps makes them a fun class. Planting landmines in tactical areas and setting up well planned traps can disable enemy attacks from an entire side of a map. Anarchist traps also excel in defensive play. Played correctly, Anarchist can wipe out a enemies lifepool extremely quickly, or their own lifepool if they aren't careful.

Builder:
Builders can make fortifications to support their team, or trap their enemies in endless buildings. In some maps builders are the most vital class, building bridges, defensive structures, and supplying their team with potions, arrows, and even TNT. They can also instantly turn the tides of the battle with well placed portals.

Healer:
Healers are the best team player, because of their heals and buffs. Healers are a vital part of every team, providing their team with powerful disorienting spells like powerblink, or simply giving a friendly fighter a speed and strength buff. Healers have the highest mobility of any class, making them tough to hunt down. They are also capable of one vs one combat by utilizing their high movement capabilities to kite enemies.
