I'm in the market for an Admin who is familiar with most of the plugins Shadowlands were utilizing. If any of the original crew is willing to help walk me through some operations or know of someone knowledgeable point them my direction.

Starting your own server again? If so, I will play there as well. :D

There was no lack of interest. So long as a single spark of interest remained, the flame could potentially survive. Sadly, the torch was not able to be handed off to me due to the conditions being unable to be met.

But fear not. Do not be disheartened. For as long as there are magical potatoes, creeper cults, and chicken divinities - there will always be DirtDog. Waiting, watching, scheming. St. Chien, the HMS DogBreath, and the Caterdral of Our Lady Hen of Peace of DogMountain are but cleverly stacked blocks and pixels. They all will live on in everyone's hearts, or at least their appendixes. Maybe someday St. Chien will rise again, who knows.

Yeah, I know Hawke wouldn't hand it off to you. I'll remember all your builds. You could always bring St. Chien back on Dawnhaven. Although it's a smaller map than Shadowlands was and you'd have to vote and use your in-game money to buy enough land to have all St. Chien under land claim. Anyway, let us know when your schemes take shape.

What happened to Shadowlands? I would like to try this mystical realm...

It died, because of lack of interest and stagnation.

Nice to see that this journal is continuing, despite the evidence that The Shadowlands is no more. I await for whatever conclusion there will be.

Yes, well it appears both the old server and the bag of crap excuse for a new server, which was whitelisted, never had ranks/permissions set up, etc., have both been shut down. Either way they are gone from my server list, as I'd stopped giving a damn a month or two ago and stopped trying to get Hawke's worthless self to talk to me on Skype. It was a good run, we had good times, but I moved on, got Nugget to join me and today napkin as well. Forwards lads, the age of Dawnhaven is upon us! (Also, Praise the Sun!) IP is play.dawnhaven.net

So, with The Shadowlands servers being dead, what are your future plans for the Ballad here? A new server perhaps or will it be coming to a final conclusion?

Ugh. I've never liked that movie. As much of a sap as I can be sometimes... But you get an "lol" for effort I guess. :P

I can no longer tolerate Hawke's uncommunicative personality, as he undoubtedly dislikes my continual persistence. I've tried being kind and patient and to work with him and he has rejected all of that and financial help and pretty much any kind of support from anyone left. Yes, I'm worked up, but it is just no longer worth the time or effort. He and Angie can do whatever the hell they want with the two servers and all the world saves, all the data for them, period. The Shadowlands is dead, has been for a long time now and the chances of him or Angie ever doing anything with it again, actually showing that they really own it, are slim to nil. I'm gonna do my best to move on and the rest of you should too, you have plenty of other things going on already anyway. THE END. If anyone has suggestions for any good servers that you play on (no raid/grief/pvp/minigames), that have Essentials/MCMMO/Economy, feel free to message me on here or on Skype (capt_redstorm).

I swear you'd make a good dictator. Divide the peoples hatred and go in for the domination.

Ha. Nah. I don't wanna be a dictator. I've been an admin before, on a small forum and it wasn't very fun times, for me or anyone else really. Power is responsibility and responsibility on the internet usually comes with a lot of crap. It's not all bad, but there's usually enough bad/frustration to make one question their position.

Well, Dirt is taking a hiatus apparently. So that's a bummer. Sure, I've revealed too much, too soon about what is going on or rather what's NOT going on, but I'm going to continue with transparency, because I believe that people deserve to know and again because I do care about this server, too much and because of my frustration, which really has everything to do with my life and little to do with the politics of the situation. Most of the blame rests on Kira, for getting her mind off her life's struggles apparently, according to Hawke and her getting everyone's hopes up with promises of paying for the server, which honestly probably wouldn't have lasted long, even if she had gotten everything to be set like she wanted it to be. Thus, all we really accomplished was the total desertion of the old server, which is still running for some reason and I'm as responsible for that as anyone I suppose. My new plan is to call Hawke for an audio chat on Skype, when I can, to see if he'll give a definitive answer on whether the server is going to continue in any meaningful fashion or if he's just ready to shut it all down and call it quits. I don't really feel that (text) messaging him on Skype is any longer a viable option. I believe that I can say, for all the people who really liked this server, that we have been treated with indifference and silence for far too long and that we honestly deserved better, not owed better mind you, but that those in charge should've been more communicative with us, on the decisions that affected our ability to play. Servers may not be a democracy and usually after the initial set-up, map changes, etc., they can run themselves so to speak, but even normal players have some right to know what's going on. I myself can't make and won't make any promises, but if any of the remaining people who actually read this thread and more importantly post to it, would like to offer suggestions, criticisms or complaints about The Shadowlands or to rally support for an alternative option, such as consideration for a server at some undetermined point in the future, that could either carry on the name or at least the spirit of The Shadowlands, now is the time to make your voice heard.

Join me again, in some nebulous realm in the future for another episode of Unfulfilled Mysteries. I'm Robert Stack, goodnight.

And now for a minor, unimportant update, for the few who still possibly care about this server...

I have completed the east docks, where the larger boat will eventually be built. The south docks where the smaller boat will be, are nearly done. I've constructed one 8x8x8 beacon in each area, to aid with navigation. Two lighthouses, one on either side of the south bay, will be built as well. There likely won't be a lighthouse in the east bay, but it's not totally impossible. I did a little beach on the north-eastern-ish side, behind the three shops over there. Also completed is the staircase up and down to the palace and the staircases up and down to the shops on the south and north sides and the paths directly to and between the shops, all lit on either side. The west part of the island has also been terraformed a bit, to fill in a small canyon and hole. That concludes the Week 4 progress update as well as some things that I'll be working on in Week 5. Maybe I'll start posting videos starting next week, on my empty YouTube channel captainredblock.

I hope to have my spawn done before the end of the year and suggested to Hawke that he set my ranks into place, with the appropriate permissions for each one, during his winter break, but he didn't respond. I'm beginning to feel a bit like what he told me on the old server: "I don't want to run the server by myself." Given the lack of communication in decisions, according to him, by the previous staff, I'm starting to feel those same things about the new server. Rule by committee is perfectly fine, I'm all for it, but it's not any better than rule by the owner, if the other two (mainly Hawke) staff members don't have enough time or are too exhausted to set up the things that I can't and wouldn't know how to, even if I have the permissions to do so and even if I do, I don't have permission to make the server public, rather than whitelisted. I'm enjoying building spawn, which is still a lot of work and I hope again, that I can get it done in five more weeks or so. But to make perhaps a foolish ultimatum, in my half-frustrated view, if we aren't finished setting up the new server and going public with it, by the end of February next year, then I'm done with it, unless I have a job again by that time, which is questionable as always and then maybe I will take over ownership and Hawke can stay on to do technical stuff and if not, I'll go hunting for someone else who will hopefully be trustworthy.

My masterpiece, Giant Dirt Man #1. Ah well.

Anyway, I can't say when the new server will be open to the public. Hawke is currently running it off his laptop at home. The plugins are not the same. We got rid of jobs, because it was estimated among myself and Tri, that the jobs paid too much and it was too easy for players to abuse them and earn money to quickly rank up. Despite that being true, it could be argued that Tri and I (and to a lesser degree, all the other players that ranked up to Chancellor), are exceptions to economy abuse, both in the past and the present and not the rule. We could've kept the jobs plugin and reduced how much the jobs paid or even eliminated some aspects, like getting free lapis blocks, by "building" with them, what Nugget appropriately termed "Lapising." However we are instead going back to an Admin Shop and MCMMO. Sworn is being dumped. Currently I am still working on my spawn, having finished the eighth and final Server Shop yesterday. My Admin Shop sells twenty-four of the most basic types of blocks and all twelve music discs. Selling to the Admin and Server shops, is how you make money, although all items you can sell to them have a 10% sellback price vs purchase price, just like it was back at the beginning. Some are going to dislike that, because that means you have to work really hard, but MCMMO is a very grindy experience, so they go together.

Napkin is also working on a server spawn area, at my request, because for a few days, I was uncertain whether I was going to finish mine. The current spawn, built by Kira, has been deemed (mostly by me, but also Tri), to be lacking and insufficient. Nap's main building, a castle, is done and he has begun work on his Admin Shop and village. However he doesn't have permission to do [Buy] and [Sell] signs, but that can be set up by me, if his spawn is chosen. I will have to excuse myself in picking which spawn area will win, as I am of course biased towards my own. Hawke is extremely busy with school right now, so it could well be Christmas break before we (hopefully) get things set and the server open to the public. Further updates will be posted here, as warranted.
