This is indeed a good idea, but I have some technical concerns. As it stands now, your idea involves no port forwarding, and thus it is not hosted on the computer of the admin, but Mojang's server. Mojang's server hasn't exactly been renowned for their reliability, and further stress will just cause it to crash more often. You could have it so that the Minecraft client automatically port forwards, allowing the servers to be run on individual computers, but that opens up security concerns. As the situation currently stands, I think only the LAN servers could be implemented.
Your idea currently involves an extended 'setting panel' to change the numerous settings currently in the server.properties file, and it would be nice to see that added.

Mar 20, 2011The library should be separated by Dewey Decimal System, except relating with Minecraft. So the Minecraft Library System.Posted in: Survival Mode
000 - General Minecraft Information
100 - Advanced Minecraft Information
200 - Mining
300 - Architecture
400 - Redstone
500 - War and Combat
600 - Minecraft Fiction
700 - General Fiction
800 - General Non-Fiction
900 - Compendium of Significant Minecraft Creations
If this were to be implemented, there would be about 700 books per section on average, and some sections would have more books, some less. Like the Dewey System, the 10 categories would be further divided into divisions. This would make it much easier to find actual books within the library. So if you wanted to find a book about Herobrine for example, instead of trying to look for things alphabetically, in which case the books might be scattered around, you go to the 500 section, Minecraft Fiction, and 520, Minecraft Lore.

To get on, go to www.chat.mibbit.com
Under 'Nick', type in your desired username,
and under 'channel', type in #mchungergames
If you're using some other IRC client,
type in /server irc.mibbit.com
type in /join #mchungergames
That's all. I will be adding op privileges to certain people.

Mar 3, 2011Before I sign up, I have a couple questions.Posted in: Survival Mode
Why Hamachi? Why not just a regular server? Hamachi is a pain in the ass in terms of client and server.
Also, regarding your question on how to make your server less laggy: ram, ram, ram. Add more allocated RAM to the server as well as to your machine.

The suggestion that Skype be mandatory is quite ludicrous. There are some who choose not to use Skype for this, or is unable to use it.
Minecraft chat isn't permanent, so I don't think that's a good idea.
How about this: an IRC channel. It doesn't require you to have any sort of account, and it is semi-permanent, as in it goes away if people chat a lot, but it can be logged down. I will help set up the channel if you guys so wish.
Mar 1, 2011Regarding problems with spectator-contestant chat: I believe there is a Bukkit mod that allows you to create chat channels, and remove global chat, so that if you chat without a channel, it only broadcasts a certain amount of blocks. That way, contestants close to each other can talk to one another, and they can be restricted from joining chat channels.Posted in: PC Servers
Cameramen: MoveCraft provides a method of flight, and perhaps those invisible ships that fly around and pick up corpses. Yes, I realize that it is on hmod forums, but it has been ported to Bukkit.
Feb 27, 2011Right, so. I noticed that the .mcr files were still there, so I deleted all the old save format files. When I start the server now, however, I get this message repeated over and over:Posted in: Server Support and Administration

Feb 27, 2011So, I just used MCEdit to change something on my server, using the latest update. When I saved and restarted the server, I noticed that a huge string of errors popped up. I investigated, and found that the world file was converted back to the pre-1.3 save format. So I redownloaded the server jar, and ran it again to convert it back, when this error message appeared:Posted in: Server Support and Administration

What does it mean? Can anyone help with my problem?
Feb 27, 2011I think that contestants should only be able to break wood, gravel, and coal. That way, they will only be able to craft wooden tools, torches, and arrows. Stone tools should be sponsor gifts or gamemaker prizes. No iron or diamond whatsoever.Posted in: PC Servers
As I said before, MoveCraft should be installed to let gamemakers and sponsors fly around to spice things up.
Extended 2x2 Crafting mod sounds like a good idea, but I don't think it works for SMP.
Of course, passive mob spawns should be decreased. Pigs spawning everywhere wouldn't make it as exciting.
Dungeons. Yes or no? They could have valuable resources in them (saddleslol). I was thinking more of artificial dungeons, if that's possible. Hidden in the side of a mountain or something. They could have things like bread, porkchops, stone tools, etc.
Feb 25, 2011I would love to join in this.Posted in: PC Servers
A couple suggestions: make a pit of bedrock as the spawn so that when people die, they are stuck there.
Install MoveCraft and have the gamemakers hover around in aircrafts where they can drop tnt or lava or whatever. Spectators should also be allowed to have aircrafts to see the action.
The cornucopia: This would be simple. Contestants are put in a chamber surrounding a ring of chests, and they would all be opened remotely to let people out.
How will you restrict how people break blocks? They can just dig a hole for themselves to survive. If there is such a mod, I would have it so that contestants are only allowed to break wood and gravel. That would restrict people to wooden swords.
Feb 18, 2011Posted in: SuggestionsQuote from Warlord255 »I think this is pretty reasonable; the only change I would offer is to Mud.
-Scrap "dry mud" as a block and have it simply revert to Dirt under dry conditions.
-Mud is sustained by water above or below it, not adjacent; it still forms temporarily in rain, and naturally in swamps.
1. I was having doubts about dry mud, too. Perhaps I'll get rid of it.
2. Why not water adjacent to it?
