AH! Your chunk is in perpetual midnight. I have a chunk like that in my world that's trapped in a perpetual day. I personally think that's awesome.

You do have a valid point, but when there's nothing aggressive threatening to kill you or destroy your structures (OR BOTH!) then I see little motivation to build innovative structures. At that point I would only build artistically, but for now I have to focus on things about how or where monsters could get to me.

posted a message on The B4 - Bacon Buster Array: Four Floor
Now, here's my quick introduction before my well written introductory speech (CONTRADICTIONS). Just a few things, yes I used InvEdit for this edition because it's a prototype. Yes it's an original idea. It's also been built on my special Brainstorm map, where I just build things to test out if they'd work or not. There may be other Obsidian Blobs and/or craters in the distance. That's called me learning how cannon's work. The Texture Pack is Glimmar's Steampunk pack. It's awesome and fairly fitting for the work I do in the game. This is not going to be the only one in the Bacon Buster series. My friend has an idea for one and I have an idea for another that will also wreak mass havoc. Now, for my speech!

Standing before us, shining in the sun, is the future. This purple monolith can bring about destruction blue-blooded Americans have wet dreams about. This here is a bona fide obsidian (for proto-purposes) B4. The Bacon Buster Array, 4 Floor. This baby, when operated by 4 men, can simultaneously fire off 8 rounds of TNT. sure, it's run by the mere basics of cannon mechanics, but the simpler the more trusty. Plus, with a basic setup, you can easily repair it with pieces of the mountainside or the craters of your enemy's castle. It matters not the approach you take to the monster, but simply how you wish to treat it.

Following are a few more images.

Here is an image of the full height. Yes, that is four floors. Four floors of double barreled cannons. Simple, yet destructive. Also a hassle to fire alone. Still gives you range/angle options.

The first floor, just an image of the inner workings. Just two simple, triple engine cannons per floor.

A much better lit view of the workings, also the fourth floor. This is where you start and slowly work downward, firing each cannon with as much of a delay as you want. With two people, you can have someone reload after every time you fire, so you fire, go down, they prepare the top, etc., so the firing doesn't need to stop. With 4 it would be more efficient and quick.

This was the crater I observed after firing it. The crater would/could be bigger if I timed everything the right way.

Anyways, it's probably a meh project (definitely nothing like Rock Bottom and the AMS) but I liked it. Pretty epic to fire. Comment, rate, recommend, ask. That's what replies are for.

posted a message on Project Rock Bottom: One of the last Great Alpha Creations
Why hello there, it's me for the second time. With another creation. Underground. Only difference this time folks is that it's an entire, self sustaining, prosperous city. It was an original idea of mine that snowballed into what it is now. Project Rock Bottom was, originally, going to be a city at the base of a strip mine. After that I thought of a city carved into the walls. Now it has evolved into a large strip mine, down to the bedrock, maybe five layers beneath the surface, with "Platforms" every 11 blocks. Each platform is accessed by an elevator and has a separate purpose. A private "Luxury Suites" platform is located at the bottom, and is designed for the keeping of those of higher priority in case of security breach. Below are images with documentation of what the depict.

Here is the entrance. As a tertiary function of Project Rock Bottom, or Colony 17, it is prepared to withstand any form of bombardment from the outside.
Except for creepers with diamond tools. If that day ever comes... Notch help us all.

Upon entrance, there is a small work area prepared for venture outwards or arrival in. The staircase leads below to the entrance area.

From here you see the entrance area, complete with a small view of our storage areas. Beyond are 6 chests full of cobble and dirt gathered from the mines.

The last image to be shown outside of Project Rock Bottom. Through this door, the true fun begins.

I lied. Another boring building. This here was built and added by another friend of mine, one of the three main workers on the project, AlysiaKael.

And here is his mine tracks. These lead from the storage down a few platforms in his home up to this building for trade.

Below for the next few images will be the view going down the elevator, encompassing the upper four Platforms. Platform 5 is restricted.

The last image, being a newer area, is of the lake on Platform 4 - Residential and has not been encased. Allows for access to a good fishing point. Going up there is an image of the smaller farm on Platform 3 - Farming and the first image is of the artificial sun that is the large part of Platform 2 - Public Housing.

This is an image of a larger farm on Platform 3 that is hidden in the back area to discourage stealing. It was a vein attempt to put use to our surplus of seeds.

Here is an image of Platform 2's secondary function, a small water reservoir. As it had a tertiary function as a Nuclear Fallout Shelter it required clean water and a constant supply, this was created to meet that need. It also helped a great deal in the construction of Platform 4's lake, which was constructed largely by the third builder, Tyash.

    The final picture I have to show you shows as little as possible of Platform 5 - Luxury Suites yet still shows the large feature of not only it but also the entire project. That's right. The Pig statue is the most important piece. But that's for another topic for another time. The other factor is the three pictured are those responsible for the construction of Project Rock Bottom, each with their own specific abilities and resources brought to the table. From left to right;

AlysiaKael - Discovered and colonized the area in the beginning. Responsible for the building on Platform 1, the minecart route, the idea and large construction of the artificial Sun on Platform 2, the glass floors, the elevator system, automating every door in the complex, obsidian-coating of the entrance.

CaligaNNoctus (Me!) - Technically, the entire idea. The project was begun and proposed by me. It'd be easier listing off what I didn't do for the project, which is told in Alysia's and Tyash's contributions.

Tyash - Construction of the like and protection of the vault. His understanding of water physics and redstone far exceeded Alysia's and mine. Tyash was also responsible for obsidian mining and the gathering of the valuable minerals for our city. He didn't help until near the end.

I hope you enjoyed my newest project, completed today around 12:00 Central time. It is one of the final projects to reach completion before the end of the Alpha Era.

    ~Caliga

(Added note: The image clipping shouldn't obstruct most of the view; the project was relatively symmetrical)

posted a message on The Anti-Mass Spectrometer!
So basically a friend of mine and I built the Anti-Mass Spectrometer from Half-Life 1 in a new base of ours. It's pretty simple, and I'm not proud of the huge bit on the top, but it's pretty close. I'm honestly looking forward to seeing other people doing better/more detailed renditions of it. So, without further ad- Oh wait, there's a comment from my friend:
"NOTE FROM THE DESIGNER: I am fully aware that the iron ring, and thus the prongs, are uneven. Due to the location this was set up (inside the labs of my city), I was on a limited area restriction. I wanted to keep the rails a certain length (at the suggestion of our poster, who built parts of it). The center of the Spectrometer is also the center of the room. Unless I wanted it off-center, I couldn't have made that segment any more even. Also, on the topic of lighting: I know it's dark. I didn't HAVE any more lightstone to put in. Limited stocks are a *****."

Now, for the images. They're not the best, but there's really no better vantage point from within the test chamber.

Again, it's not the best project, but I think it turned out nicely.
