I don't post here anymore really, but I met a lot of cool people on this forum. I also got in a lot of arguments here, back when I was a little younger and a lot dumber. My selective memory says my opponents were too, but I might be biased there.
Shout-out to the roleplaying section for finding me those cool people I was talking about - you will be remembered. And to the suggestions section, for teaching me the pain of letting go - you will not be missed, and I can only hope to forget you.
So before I go, let's review the correct opinions one last time:
- 1.9 good.
- YouTubers good.
- Herobrine suggestions good.
- Cyberbullying bad.
Cya on the other side.

That was my suspicion, but I wasn't sure. As I say, this thread wasn't meant to be a knock on anyone in particular, especially not the person who is posting the news. I was just curious about the whole thing.
Obviously the forum is still in a transitional period, and there's a lot of legwork that goes into finding new people and a process which will cover everything efficiently without turning it into literal slave labour. So I appreciate that it's a bit harder than a forum post saying "lol get more people or something" might make it seem.

The three main games I follow super actively are Pokemon, WoW and Minecraft. For Pokemon news I can check Serebii, and for WoW news I can check MMOChampion or Wowhead (usually both, to make sure I get everything). Even if I don't know any news is coming around, I'll occasionally check them out to see if anything interesting has been announced. These sites always have news up as soon as its out, and for big events, have live updates.
As far as I'm aware, no Minecraft fansite meets this standard. It's really strange to me that the News section of this site has no word of the Nether Update yet. Minecon is the biggest event of the year, after all, so it's not like the update announcement was a surprise. I would think that Minecon would drive a lot of traffic to this site, too, so it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity (if the news was up in a timely manner, I would think that'd encourage more people to come here in the future for news).
For me personally, I watched the stream but had some buffering issues, and I was hoping to come here to get the details I missed. And to be clear, I'm not necessarily blaming any of the people behind the news posts for this. I don't know what timezones they're in, or in what capacity they work here. Are they full-time, or volunteers? Do they have other responsibilities on the site? Or in real life? Obviously these are important questions, so I don't wanna start a crusade.
Maybe it's just a case of needing more people behind the news. In my eyes, a site like this needs to post all official news ASAP. Not just the announcements during Minecon, but also everything leading up to it. Why was there nothing at all on the biome vote? I would expect a news post for each biome announcement (as they were spread out over the days leading up to Minecon).
Just my two cents. Considering how big Minecraft is right now, it feels like a huge missed opportunity for a site like this to not be on the ball with the news. Thanks for reading.

I don't blame you for not knowing what's in the snapshot, but I find it a bit strange that you switched to a new snapshot, saw a new feature, and your first thought was to ask us what it was.
As has been the case with all new features for a long time now, it's on the front page of the forum you moderate.

For anyone who doesn't understand, here are some reasons to start a public Minecraft server:
This isn't supposed to be a 'gotcha' to anyone, I largely agree that too many people make no effort servers. But not all new servers have to be low effort.

Going to preface this by saying I came onto the forum tonight to make a thread about my own server launching tomorrow morning, so I'm biased.
This is a defeatist attitude and it really doesn't make that much sense. Yes, there are lots of servers, and lots of people have favourite servers. That doesn't mean a new server won't be popular in the future. It's like saying there's no point in making a new movie, a new game, etc, unless you're already a famous creator. That's not how markets work. New faces always crop up. Is it hard? Yeah, it's damn hard. And I bet I'm very quickly going to learn myself it's even harder than I think. But that doesn't mean it's impossible or that hard work doesn't affect your rate of success.
The whole "everyone is making a server thinking they can be the next X" thing is just kind of demeaning, to be honest. Lots of people put a lot of work into their servers, creating something they love and hoping to share that with others. The whole joy of creating a server is the sharing. It's being able to cultivate a community and create meaningful relationships. It's not just for money or internet fame. Nobody in this thread said they were out to be the next hermitcraft. You make it sound like we just woke up in the morning and decided we were going to make famous Minecraft servers, like entitled kids.
Probably not my wisest 5am post but there it is. I can agree with a percentage of what you're saying. It's hard. There are lots of servers out there doing what OP is doing. But I don't think you understand his intention. There are reasons to try to grow a public server other than being the next Mindcrack.

Hi folks. I'm playing on a new and small server called Age of Conquest (IP: play.aoc-mc.com). It's a continuation of some other, similar servers which shut down for different reasons. The server has factions, and so people create countries and go to war. The server also features the Movecraft plugin, which allows for massive boats, aircrafts are more to be built by hand and controlled with sings.
My faction, Brazil, is recruiting members. We are setting up a colony in Uruguay which will house our navy, the leader of which has not been decided. We currently have a builder there setting it up and making things pretty.
Finally, for those who are interested in the server but are not interested in joining my faction/colony: I am setting up an alliance in South America. The SAU (South American Union) will welcome anyone who wants to set up their own country on the continent (Argentina, Columbia, Chile, etc). The full terms of membership haven't been chalked up quite yet, but the crux of the alliance is that we will aid each other and form a defensive block which ensures the security of the continent from warmongers.
Brazil is currently one of the larger factions on the server (not saying too much), and so by taking this chance to grow further and establish ourselves we ensure that we will not be conquered. Joining Brazil will require a Discord account so that we can communicate out of the game. Joining Uruguay, or joining the SAU in a new faction, will not require this.
Thanks for reading and I hope you're interested. Reply to this thread if you want to join and I can invite you.

Check the date, that was posted on Feb 24 2016 and the picture says Feb 26 2016 too.
Some Twitter trolls are retweeting it to mislead people into thinking it's real.

Crap, I can't read. Sorry.
