Keyboard and mouse is far more responsive and accurate than a controller, I'm not denying that in any way. The reason it's worse is because it's so good that it hurts gameplay. But I guess that's personal preference whether you like twitch shooters and players able to make repeated headshots from 300 meters with an SMG while jumping off a bridge, or, the majority of shots missing their targets.

I'm debating getting a gaming PC. My laptop handles most current indie games, which is enough for me. But, I wouldn't mind playing a few of the big releases.

Although, I do hate PC gamers:
-The graphics are not THAT much better. Yes, it is noticeably prettier. No, you are not playing Skyrim 2.0 while the rest of us play Pong. They're the same games.
-Controllers are superior in multiplayer FPS games. There, I said it.
-PC DRM is worse than consoles.

Definitely Mother 3. That game was so sad I didn't even play it. I got through the first hour or two and haven't picked it up again.

Being a huge Earthbound fan, I just wasn't prepared for that.

Are there still servers for BF2? I load it up every once in a while to fly around and shoot some bots. To be honest I wouldn't even be interested in playing online again. It really was amazing when it was released, but it was so full of exploits that any individual could ruin a match for everyone.

I would think about playing BF 2142 again. Titan mode was probably the most amazing multiplayer game type ever released.

I'm going to wait at least a year after they're both released, then decide. The XBox One is garbage. But, the used game fee might cause developers to flock to it. If most of the top games start being XBox exclusives, I'll skip the PS4 as well.

I prefer console gaming but I might just switch to PC for this generation.

So, if the PS4 doesn't have the used game fee built in, how are developers going to handle cross platform titles? I wonder if we'll see all the big guys offering exclusivity to Microsoft.

    Maybe I'll just get a Wii U.

Wait, what are the new features?

A required Kinect system? So I'm required to buy and install a peripheral that I have absolutely zero interest in?

A media hub experience? You mean...it will play Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and advertise overpriced Zune movies just like my current XBox? Who wants to bet I'll need a Live subscription to watch pass through TV as well?

No required internet connection. Is this really a feature? You'll still have to connect any time you want to play a new game so they can check if it's used to bill you $20. It's not like it'll be reasonable to own an XBox One if you don't have internet.

Good to see people are still doing this challenge. Newbe5 you guys are doing it right, don't worry about the rules too much, just have fun. I especially liked the priority being put on the outhouse, obviously the most important building.

In retrospect, I don't care much for how I set up the challenge. It feels like you spend most of your time building school structures.

So I'm getting near the end of the game. I started off very impressed with this X-Com remake, but, I'm already starting to get a bit bored of it. The whole game feels terribly scripted with seemingly few choices for how to proceed.

Soldier outfitting - Wait, are there seriously less weapons than the original? Even then, each class only has access to a few of those. Then, I can only carry a single extra item? So much for debating over extra ammo, grenades, spare weapons, or a sparse load out to increase speed.

Tactical - Run from cover to cover to cover, anything else? Oh yeah, forget about using those grenades or rockets except in absolutely dire situations. They destroy a necessary resource that I'm always lacking. Speaking of...

Geoscape - Why am I so restricted on the amount and type of missions I take? Even if I take every single mission offered, I'm low on resources. In the original I had to debate whether or not to attack targets based on personal readiness. I was never excited that a UFO finally appeared.

Still a pretty good game, I just had to gripe somewhere about the shortcomings.

    Quote from Metadigital

I beat the game the other day. No casualties, yet still very challenging. I'd rate it highly. It's a fantastic game, and reminds me of an age of gaming I almost forgot the feeling of.

Did you play on easy or reload a lot?? I'm just on normal and lose soldiers every once in a while just due to random chance.

So, who's been playing? I have to say, they captured quite a bit of the original's magic. I'm loving it so far. I just had my first terror mission and encountered chryssalids. Only one squad member survived.

posted a message on Do you like RPGs? :)
Seems like you're interested in developing an indie RPG and would like some ideas. This influences my answers a bit as it's not beneficial to you for me to talk about games like Skyrim or Fallout 3.

    1. First off, what kind of RPG do you like?
Turn-based. Specifically, tactical turn-based combat. I enjoy all types of RPG's, that is just my favorite.

    2. What do you like most about the above type of RPGs?
Well... turn based tactical RPG's offer very rewarding combat. You have the time to position characters more thoughtfully and more carefully utilize individual equipment and skills.

    3. What kind of things do you like to see in RPGs?
Class systems, side-questing, and visual upgrades.

    4. What do you like about the above qualities?
Class systems - I very seldom see this, but, I absolutely love a generic class system that offers multiple progression paths. I dislike acquiring fully detailed characters with a set skill list and a detailed back story. I would much rather hire a generic apprentice and transform him into a powerful wizard that wears plate armor. It makes me feel more attached to my characters and like I'm writing their story instead of simply watching it.

Side questing - Pretty simple, I enjoy having plenty of side quests to upgrade my characters before continuing with the main story.

Visual upgrades - A small feature that bothers me when it's missing. Know that fancy new piece of armor I just fought a dragon for? I want to see it on my character.

    5. What kinds of graphics do you like?
2D...retro or modern. Especially on an indie game. There seem to be very few indie games that can get 3D visuals to look and play well.

    6. Do you ever think you would buy an indie RPG?
I've bought a few. Terraria, Cthulhu Saves the World, Breath of Death VII, Dungeons of Dredmor, and a few others. I would pay up to $20 if it interested me enough. But, for that price it would have to be well polished.

    7. If you could add any type of new element(s) into the old RPG formula... from any other genre, or just coming up with your own idea... What would you add?

A guild building portion would be interesting. Manage your guild headquarters, finances, train and recruit new members, fight rival guilds, whatever. I've never seen an RPG where you actively struggle to make your guild succeed.

    8. What are some of your favorite RPGs?
I love the SNES era JRPG's. Earthbound and Final Fantasy VI were my favorites. I'm also crazy about the original X-Com games. They weren't traditional RPG's, but, they did have character stats and tactical turn based combat.

I'm starting this challenge with gnomes. I'm having fun so far.

My plan is to do multiple races on the same map. I'm a heavy mod user, so I'm kind of assigning mods as race bonuses. Gnomes get Industrialcraft, elves get Thaumcraft, and so on. I might allow some trading between cities, but I'm not sure yet.

I don't notice, because I have everyone muted.

As far as I'm concerned, you're all a bunch of very well programmed NPC's for me to shoot at.
