posted a message on Witches spawn enemies (antilight or spawn eggs)
I've never heard anything about witches being responsible for undead mobs. Are you just making up a rumor so people will support your idea?

Perhaps I should rephrase. A lot of people are *speculating* that witches are responsible for undead mobs. I don't think Mojang will try to incorporate this into some sort of plotline, nor should they even try. But take a look in the many threads about how people want to "fix" witches and many posters there have stated this is the story that comes up in their imaginations.

posted a message on Why people don't like the witch.
    1) I will say one thing (just as a idle thought); how do we know that they never existed? We can't go back in time to check, so therefor we don't know this
    2) My religion does not support the killing of people who are thought to be witches, you must realize, the fact that someone calls themselves Christian does not mean that they are, the people who did these things weren't Christians, they may have called themselves Christians, but their actions proved that they weren't

    1) Generally the worldwide *scientific* consensus is against magic and deities, at least when we want to think about practical things here on earth and not in some form of afterlife.
    2) Only problem with saying that those who killed weren't Christian is that they probably would have said the same about you, quoting "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Exodus 22:18 . Like it or not, witch burnings are part of Christian history. One that luckily everyone (or so I hope) disagrees with today.

    Simple fix:
    • Change their appearance to look less like the standard villager, and more "monster" or creepy-like.
    • Change their name to Alchemist
    • Make them more aggressive / more health.
    • Make them drop something exclusive to them, that can make a new block or potion. Like invisibility / night vision potions

What about those players who would prefer witches to be initially peaceful and willing to trade? Essentially that's the opposite of aggressive. Since the trading system is already in place, that would be a "simple" fix. What is suggested above is not necessarily a majority view, as the poll attached to this thread shows.

posted a message on Does armored mobs actually make the game harder?
Spam clicking is probably the best way to make the game harder, as ankenmann2 stated above. By definition, mobs with more HP means harder, just marginally so.

Perhaps mobs could receive extra damage reduction while wearing armor. It's not really like skeletons and zombies have to worry about blunt force trauma.

posted a message on Why does renaming an item cost XP?
I don't see why renaming an item costs XP, and don't think it should. Maybe it's so players don't endlessly spam swords with custom names and IDs so the server logs don't get filled up with them. But even if that's the case, it would make more sense to only allow players 10 custom named swords, but seeing as players can have any number of swords with various enchantments, still doesn't make sense.

posted a message on Is there any point to the Bat?
I love the new bats, though I suppose they could be tedious if they spawn in dark corners of your house. I am fine with them simply on the grounds of "they look pretty," but the people who say they should have a use do have a point. All mobs either harm you or drop something (and most do both.)

I am positive bats will be given a drop eventually. Maybe a low chance of dropping a leather. Maybe guano, an ingredient that can be used in potions.

After all: Water unseen at falls mix with bat droppings yields potion for invisibility.

posted a message on Is Minecraft "Dead"?
I'm one of those "hipsters" who began playing August 2010. If that qualifies me as a hipster, anyway, there are many players who bought it much sooner.

Sometimes I do feel that Minecraft is becoming boring, but that's just because I've played it a hell of a lot. Probably at least 500 hours, an extremely great deal considering I bought it for the price of a lunch at an mediocre restaurant, about $13 USD. I love all these new changes.

I do miss certain aspects like alpha terrain generation that could spawn some really awesome and unique features that seem to be more "meh"ish with these new biomes. But on the other hand, new biomes! New mobs! New dimensions! New landmarks! I would definitely not trade all these great additions for alpha terrain generation, rather, I'll just push for the dev team to try and incorporate alpha-ish features into the new terrain codes.

I don't play much anymore; when I do, it's usually with my girlfriend over LAN or on a private server where we can discover the new additions together. That keeps the game fresh for me. With these new adventure mode additions, Minecraft will have an all new way to play and provide nearly limitless creativity and replayability.

Minecraft won't die until the updates stop. I hope that won't happen for years.

posted a message on Witches spawn enemies (antilight or spawn eggs)
It seems a lot of people are starting to grow attached to the theme that witches are responsible for the undead and monsters in the overworld.

I was thinking, what if the developers carried on with this theme by having witches throw spawn eggs for zombies and skeletons along with their potions?

Or what if witches (or their huts) have some kind of magical rod/torch that does what a torch does but in opposite: darken nearby blocks instead of lighting them? This would allow mobs to spawn around the huts or witches daytime or nighttime.

posted a message on Why people don't like the witch.
I like the witch fine. Many people are saying that they are the outlier, that they don't belong in the game because they are testificates, which are generally friendly and stupid. Well, aren't witches just the outcasts who have been kicked out by the iron golems for practicing their dark arts? Makes sense why they would retreat into swamps.

Some people have stated that witches will be so rare to find that they'd have little use. Why not spawn witches in groups of 3? No shortage of that in lore. Or maybe let them carry spawn eggs and toss those around too, perhaps just zombies and skeletons, to summon an extra tier of defense.

The only change I think I support is altering the "Wizard of Oz" look to something that's a little less cliche. I think it's a bit silly people are referring to gender since there really is no concept of gender at all in Minecraft. Change the name to "sorcerer" or "mage" or "outcast" or whatever, that shouldn't offend as many people.

posted a message on Ender chests --- Good, Bad, and Ugly
Hm... I understand both the good and bad about this.

Having studied operating systems recently in class, I wonder if the chests could work like this: (chest is initially empty)

    1.) Fill chest with items.
2.)Insert ender pearl to send the items to "virtual chest space." The chest becomes locked.
3.)Insert another ender pearl to recieve items from "virtual chest space". The chest becomes unlocked and is filled with its new contents.

This way there'd have to be a bit of sacrafice for all the easy access, and it would make sense in terms of the Endermens' teleporting-ability lore.

Minecraft was harder before you could sprint fast anything that might threaten you. Traveling outside at night doesn't really scare me like it used to anymore.

Hm... rabid ocelots, anyone? Rabid wolves? All they'd require is a slight retexture (or maybe white particles dripping from their mouths) and some AI changes that make them highly aggressive.
