Why are you interested in joining this server? I was late to the Minecraft game, but I've been playing single player for a few years now. I recently started watching some SMP series on YouTube and would like to find a community to get involved with and play together.
Strengths (redstone, building, etc): I'm a fair builder but I like to think I'm ever better with redstone, though I haven't really had anyone to compare myself against thus far. I'm also happy digging, gathering materials, or whatever else might be helpful to the rest of the group.
How many other servers have you been on and for how long? Will this be your primary server? I've never played on an SMP server before. This would be my first SMP experience.
What other games do you enjoy playing? Destiny 2, Overwatch, Call of Duty. Minecraft is a bit of a departure from the stuff I usually play, but it's a nice reprieve from shooters.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Hobbies, interests, etc. The more we know, the more information we have to base that decision off of. I play soccer and volleyball, big Ted Lasso fan, love cooking (but not cleaning up after), have beaten Pokemon Ruby like 100 times, annnnnd I'm sure there is plenty more to me that I can't think of on the spot. Hope to get to know some new people on the server! -

Why are you interested in joining this server?: I've been looking for an SMP with active members for multiple months, and figured with the new 1.18 update I had the best chance of finding a new community to join. Im excited to be able to be part of a community like this.
Strengths (redstone, building, etc): Building, Event planning, redstone and redstone design are all areas I'm strong in. I love building different large builds with actual function for other people to use and enjoy.
How many other servers have you been on and for how long? Will this be your primary server?: From 1.11 to 1.17 I've played on the same server, but due to player drop-off and server downtime, I've decided to find a new community. I hope to make this my primary server. I've been playing Minecraft since the beta days, and hope to be able to keep going until far past the last update.
What other games do you enjoy playing? : I have a very extensive library, but tend to turn to survival and grand strategy games the most. My most played include Terraria, HOI4, GMOD, Stardew Valley, and most recently FO76 and TF2.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Hobbies, interests, etc. The more we know, the more information we have to base that decision off of.: I'm a pretty classic stereotype of a nerd: I love comic books, video games, and love to read. Im a musician and play a lot of instruments; I'm currently learning to play the Mandolin. I spend alot of time at the music and bookshops in my area trying to find rarer pieces to add to my vinyl and book collections (Im particularly interested in cold war and WW2 history, so let me know if you have any books you'd recommend). I recently started a new job that gives me much more free time, so ive been trying to find more things to do, and would love to get back onto a minecraft server that has more than one player at a time haha.
Thanks! -

TheMasterCaver posted a message on Where Will New Mountain Biomes Generate?Posted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsI'd think that the new mountains will replace the original extreme hills because otherwise adding new biomes will completely alter the biome map, breaking every single world (you'll have lots of ugly walls between old and new terrain where biomes and heights do not match), instead of only where extreme hills/mountains border existing terrain. For much the same reason the new ocean biomes added in 1.13 only replaced existing oceans, bamboo forest replaced parts of existing jungles, and so on. Otherwise, seeds have been unchanged since 1.7, which is by far the longest period of worldgen stability (at least as far as biomes are concerned; they completely changed the underground in 1.7 and 1.13; most interestingly, these changes were never mentioned in any official changelogs).
For example, this shows what happens when you add a single new biome, using my own modded version as an example (biomes do not change everywhere since "cold" and "hot" are generated differently, which is also the case for vanilla, or the RNG just happened to choose the same biome):

The_Shadow posted a message on Where Will New Mountain Biomes Generate?Posted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsMy understanding is that the new mountains replace the existing Extreme Hills. But whether they'll appear in the same places that Extreme Hills did, I don't think we know as yet. I don't recall hearing anything about the biome distribution changing either way.

Badprenup posted a message on A Real Use For RubyPosted in: SuggestionsMost of these don't sound very useful.
Quenching is just... To be honest they should just lower the fire on the screen in general, I would rather that than an enchantment.
Seeking seems more or less useless, I can just look and see where the nearest mob is, carrying an extra item to do that for me is a waste of inventory space imo.
Ghostly Foresight also seems useless, if a Ghast cries out you already know one is coming, the time it takes to gauge how far the projectile is would be better spent just moving out of the way and looking for the Ghast.
Hyperstep basically sounds like the auto-jump feature recently added, but with the Horse mechanics of automatically just going up the block rather than it being an actual jump. So I would rather that option just be changed to make it better rather than a new enchantment.
Speedsneak sounds good, but since there is only one of these I really like I would rather it just be a new lapis enchantment rather than have these others be added.
As for the ore, Dinnerbone already changed Ruby to Emerald due to it being hard to tell the difference between it and Redstone for colorblind people. I doubt it would be added as a red tinted ore surrounded by other red blocks (Netherrack).

Endy123 posted a message on Let it go, it’s time to stop updatingPosted in: DiscussionI really think the updates are the best part and would love to see them done more often.
Most of the changes(combat update) aren't bad at all once you get used to them and update your gear.

What I would call extreme hills are actually called "mountains" in the biome tag. I know the new biomes wouldn't generate in already-generated mountain biomes, but it makes sense to me that they would generate in other mountain/extreme hills biomes as they're generated after updating to 1.18

Our SMP is trying to do some pre-planning for our next season. Has anything been said regarding where the new mountain biomes will generate when 1.18 releases? Will they generate in place of extreme hills-type biomes or will they be a new type of biome independent from extreme hills? For example, if we were to start a new season on a seed with an extreme hills biome near spawn and deleted the overworld after we update to 1.18, would that extreme hills biome just regenerate as it was or would the new mountain terrain generate in its place?
To my knowledge nothing this hasn't been addressed in any announcements, but I'm hoping I just missed it.

I think this is the best thing they could've done for PvP. As many people have said in this thread already, spam clicking your sword requires no skill. You'll now have to think about what you're about to do and constantly as you do it. The perfect timing between blocking with your shield and swinging with your sword for maximum effect. No more getting lucky kills mindlessly running at people spamming away. In a situation like UHC or Hunger Games, waiting for a fight between 2 players to finish so you can swoop in and clean up the surviving injured player may no longer be a viable strategy because that player is now more able to defend themselves. This is definitely doing to change PvP in Minecraft, but for the better. It will be more methodical. I think the original poster just hasn't thought everything through or actually done any testing with the actual changes, because I'd wager there will be very few 5 year olds that will be successful with these new mechanics. I think you'll see a much larger gap between people that are good at PvP and those that aren't, given that now more to it than clicking your mouse as fast as you can. Very excited for this!

Thought I'd share some pictures of the base I'm working on on the KingKraft SMP server. I'm going for an overgrown/jungle ruins-type feel with lots of detail in the architecture, a maze-like element to the layout, while also being a functional base. One of the challenges I set for myself was to chop down as few trees/do as little terraforming as possible and really build with the land. I think this really adds to the overgrown feel where I have trees and vines growing into and through parts of the build. Check it out below and let me know what you think!

In my opinion, you have a basics down. Good video quality. Understandable audio. Some humor. Would be nice to see you translate that to a Minecraft series. If you bring all that and something interesting to watch to the table, people will come.
