Modloader is installled by placing the files from the modloader folder into the minecraft.jar file. Every subsequent mod that requires modloader is installed by placing the files from that folder into the minecraft.jar file as well unless you are instructed to place certain files in another place such as the resources file. Mods designed for SMP will usually have a download seperate from the SSP version. As an example, plasmacraft requires a modified server program that is seperate to the client mod.
Okay, ima give Hamachi a try. Thanks, I'll get back to this if I have any issues.
Just another tip, you have to run the server once so it will create the server properties file which is where you choose the network for the server to run on.

Heres a video that should help with the hamachi setup.
Well all you need to set up a server is the server program and a network to run it on. In terms of network configuration, setting up a hamachi network would be the easiest way as you can avoid the trouble of port forwarding.
Download the plugins you want to install and look in the folder for a readme file. Most plugins should include this file which should explain exactly how to correctly install the plugin. If not you can probably find installation instructions on the bukkit forums. Installing plugins usually consists of moving a file or two to your plugins folder so it should be rather easy.
Also be sure server-ip is blank in your properties file, and connect via localhost and not your Hamachi IP. Anyone who isn't in your network should connect to your Hamachi IP.

No not yet. I've been busy with Beta and other games and don't play classic too much. I have started a train station though.

I would agree this seems like a plugin issue.
