So are you a lefty or a righty? Just post if you're a righty of lefty. :)

My political views tend toward the "left" end of the spectrum. But it is my understanding that "left and right" politics mean different things depending on what country you're in.

    I'm a libertarian socialist.

I'd also like to add that I'm actually scared of what will happen on the 21st- "WORLD'S GONNA END ANYWAYS" looters will probably hit some people.

I feel more pity for the people with stupid relatives. My mother wants to have dinner with me on the 19th because "you never know". Crap like this reminds me of why I want to move very far away and change my name and telephone number.

If you live every day like it is your last, the stupid stuff you'll end up doing will ensure that it is your last.

Not true. Grabbing life by the gonads does not involve risking said life. You should watch the movie Dead Poets Society. Go out and rent it now. I'll wait.

We all have to die some time. Why should I care when it is? Live every day like it is your last and have no regrets.

I'd go crazy, because I'd be pretty damn hungry.

It's more than just hunger or sleep deprivation. A more accurate example would be in A Clockwork Orange but that movie is so violent and disturbing I cannot link the clip here (if it exists online at all). A similar example would be from Lost as seen in this clip: .

I don't think I'd go insane from watching videos of cats non-stop, perhaps a bit bored at the most (provided I get adequate food, water, and sleep, of course).

Boredom is just the start. I'm talking about a person tied to a chair, eyes taped open, head restrained so the only thing they can look at is the screen... trust me your mind would break.

Under those conditions how long would you make it into this video?

Do it, they'll find out they've wasted resources as my technique involves forcing the tortured to watch videos deemed cute on the internet until they laugh so much that he thanks me and tells me what I need to know.

They should try it, it works!

Actually that is a legitimate form of torture. Often times that technique is used for brainwashing but it could just as easily be applied to breaking someone's will or causing general insanity.

    Example video:

I could just write SAHDIASDHAPSI and claim it's a new torture technique that I've only used once.

If you did I'd report you to the FBI and have them investigate you for admitting you've tortured someone.

    Quote from Metadigital

Except that when you smoke everyone around you suffers. I, for one, am glad that smoking is banned in more and more places these days. It allows me the freedom to decide whether or not I want to smoke rather than forcing me to avoid restaurants, bowling alleys, pool halls, clubs, and bars.

I've always enjoyed the smell of smoke, even before I was a "smoker" (a label which barely fits me as I only smoke on rare occasions). And yes, I agree that there are many places that smoking should be banned. But I don't think it should be banned everywhere. Some bars for example should be allowed to allow smoking inside if that is what the owner wishes. It would be a problem if ALL bars allowed smoking, as someone like you would be forced to avoid them, but I don't think that would be the case.

Edit: As for the "no point in it" I agree. There is no point, other than personal enjoyment, and that can be said of many things. My previous example of video games would be a primary example. Sitting on my ass playing video games all day isn't healthy and the effect it is producing on my body (I've never been in worse shape in my life) might eventually kill me. The only major difference is that my playing video games isn't hurting anyone else... but neither is smoking in the privacy of my own home.
