I'm looking to have a minecraft server hosted, and so far you guys seem to be the most reputable for the best prices.

What I want is some clarification.

When you say custom jars are free on request, exactly how easy is it for me to get a custom jar installed? Do I have to send a request each time, or can I switch out the jar myself(if I wanted to test my own mods for example, this would be rather important). Secondly, exactly where are your servers located? I'm part of a small community spanning across North America and Australia, so I'd like something that will serve as a comfortable middle ground ping-wise for my friends and me(LA, for example).

    Thanks. :)

    Quote from Chipmunk46»

Herro peoples! With "The Final Prophecy" coming to its final building stages, I'm going to start finding some beta testers! I really have some high hopes with this map. There are going to be a lot of command block trickery and some new features in this map that are going to really need some testing, and I need some help from you guys to get it all working properly. To test the map, I need you to be able to handle the previous map (Archangel Rising) without too many lag issues, cause this map might be a bit more frame intensive (but probably not TOO harsh). Anyways, I'll stop with my ranting on and tell you what you need to do to apply.

It's easy, just reply to this post and say you want to beta. That simple.

I have high hopes for this map, and with your help we can make it a reality! Thanks guys!

    -Chipmunk

Edit: I would estimate the map to be ready for release in about a month and a half. I still have a lot of things to build and with school, speed is not really of the essence.

After beta testing the mess that was early beta Archangel, I'd actually be hyped to have that kind of experience again. ;p Gimme da map, I'm looking forward to playing it. :)

I'm afraid I've got more bad news in the vein of what Infinity posted on the previous page. It's tough to admit, but looking back I should've seen the inevitable.

Yes, I'm putting Dreadsky Depths on indefinite hiatus. I haven't opened Minecraft in well over a month now, and my creative flow has been firmly channeled in other directions away from mapping, specifically writing. I also find it extremely unlikely that I'll ever return to finish DsD, and honestly, I may not even release what I have built. I started working on this thing almost two years ago, and Minecraft has changed so much since then, I just haven't been able to keep up. To say I feel a little foolish for being as adamant as I was about finishing it would be an understatement. My interest in this community and mapping was almost entirely drained months ago; I was really just forcing myself to finish what I started, and there was no enjoyment whatsoever.

Besides the fact that Minecraft as a medium for creative expression seems dated and inadequate to me now, I'm just dealing with so much other stuff, (both online and IRL,) that this community has completely fallen from my view. I'm working 35 hours a week, working on a final paper about Bioethics and human cloning, and juggling social interaction as well. Stuff is taking off for me, so unfortunately I've got to drop any nonessential commitments.

I'm really sorry for anyone I've let down, but I hope you can understand where I'm coming from and respect my decision to let this go. Chances are very high that I'll visit this community in a similar pattern to how Skeeto does: infrequently, but faithfully. I won't be a member of the Admin account for this thread anymore, nor will I facilitate any further Strawberry Jam events. The latter of those spots in particular can probably be filled by whoever feels up for it, but I'll leave that for you as a community to decide. :)

Can't say much else without repeating myself, so I think I'll leave it there.

Sad news to hear, DsI is one of my favorite CTM maps. But hey, just do what makes you happy. :)

    Day 8: Another Pillar
On day 8, I finished creating a tower on the middle tower and I am now working on the second pillar. Also, I got rid of the two creeper spawners in Everforge.

I think Boyde was meant to say 'atmosphere' instead of 'aesthetics'.

No, I meant aesthetics. Idk, the look and feel of the areas really appealed to me. I know other maps have more elaborate areas with a lot more detail work, but there's something about the trimmed down, crisp and unified look of IM that I really enjoy. Again though, just my opinion.

I liked IM, but I didn't like it too much compared to other maps he created. Though it had great ideas at the time and was neat, it was mediocre compared to the likes of Waking Up, Spellbound Caves, Legendary, etc. That's my honest opinion. It was good, but not really Vechs normal level good.

As for the random loot, I always liked it in every map, it helped at times. Random loot has been in every map afaik, it's just way better in IM. My level of respect has never gone down for Vechs, but since then it's never went up.

I actually think it might be one of my favorites. It seems harsh, but fair. Every time I die I feel like I've learned something, not "well of course I was gonna die there it's called Inventory Wipe Horror Festival for a reason". Spellbound Caves is the definition of an easy map with a roughish start, and Legendary starves you for resources all the way through. I also don't think that having the sandstone base makes it a Legendary ripoff, because Legendary has a lot of massive outdoor expanses, whereas Inferno Mines always gives you that eerie impression of being deep, deep underground, while still providing massive areas. I dunno. The combination of the random loot, the fun area mechanics(mostly of the time lol) and the beautiful aesthetics really put it high in the list for me.

    heh.. no.

jk but to be honest I don't think (unless Vechs has learned) should release another CTM map because his last maps were... questionable for his level of mapping.

I wouldn't.. honestly worship him anymore at least. Except for creating the CTM genre, which is what you said but not as much as people would normally expect. I think others deserve the praise better. Now-a-days at least.

    but vetchez cult

    Jk.

In all seriousness, I believe a lot of the hate on IM is personal opinion, and not to bring up *this* term again, but remember we are the vocal minority. I know I enjoy the map, and think it feels very well made. Also, and no one shoot me, I actually like the random loot idea. I don't find it lazy, I find it interesting, and it turns the game into a fast paced adventure rather than a slow grind fest. As someone who dies a lot more than I should, I know I would certainly be angry if I had to grind new enchanted gear every time I had a massive failure.

As for Vechs, I was kidding about the worship thing, but I do think he should be getting a bit more respect than he has been lately. As we both stated, he made the genre, and while he should still cater to his userbase, I don't think he deserves the hate he got for Inferno Mines at all.

    Just sayin'.

When placing the water. Did you use the data value of flowing water (8) instead of still water (9)? If you did then the water would need to be updated when loaded in. Which given a >100 deep pond could lag the game for a while. That's my best guess at the problem.

Also, depending on which version of the game you're in. There may be chickens spawning from the baby zombie jockey which aren't despawning.

I'm in 1.7.2 atm, because that's the most recent version I can grab for my absolute MINIMUM required mods. I will try replacing it all with still water though, just in case. Thanks for the tip good sir.

Also, has anyone else looked at All-U-Want inventory editor lately? The dev added a tile entity editor and an entity editor, which is absolutely awesome, and a godsend considering that in-game NBTEdit is still for 1.6.2.

I do have a genuine question to ask too. I don't think it's any secret that Minecraft has become laggier over the last few patches(I was playing Inferno Mines in 1.5.2 At ~100 FPS in most places, current snapshot on a vanilla survival server I barely get 60), and I have really been feeling this when mapmaking. For example, I built a large(and I mean REALLY LARGE) kind of open world intersection thingo, and then put the entire thing underwater with a mixture of World Painter and MCEdit. Now the area takes like 5 minutes before it will reach a comfortable 30 FPS, until then I'm lucky if I get 1. Would this problem be solved if I tp'ed myself around and waited for all the chunks to load(similar technique used in Sethbling's UHC mapmaking tutorial), and if so, would the issue by resolved for every computer that plays the map after that, or just mine? I'm starting to worry that I've spent hours upon hours making an unplayable area. :/
Also, if it helps, the ocean in question is >100 blocks deep. Would making it more shallow help the issue?

Hey, don't feel too bad about taking over a year to finish an LP, mine is nearing two years old with four episodes published (and it's of Spellbound Caves no less! It just happens to be upside down). You'd be hard-pressed to progress slower than me :P

Upside down..... yeah..... seeing how that could take while, lol.

iz jus maep, y u haf to b maed?
Among other news, I STILL haven't finished my IM LP... it's been over a year now... almost there, I'm just terrified of taking on Eternal Battle. Would going back and raiding Lush Ruins for good loot be worthwhile? I lost most of my good stuff when I..... oh whatever I'll just link you guise <3:
So.... how about we all agree to disagree and go back to being a happy community that worships the Great One who changed the Minecraft mapping community forever? :D
