Dude this is actually really cool! I've been trying to get back into Minecraft too, and this does give me a few ideas. Maybe I should try documenting everything too :D

They've finally bitten-off more than they can chew.

Has anyone seen an explanation from Jeb, et al?
I would love to see a statement like, "It seemed like extended worlds was a good idea, but..." But what?

Notice the first time a snapshot has taken back its promise.

I would think that this unprecedented event would cause some explanation from Mojang, but nope. Buyer Beware is all that's left.

This honestly kinda seems like baiting. They gave us an explanation over on their youtube channel. Personally I'm fine with waiting for the next part of the update, it just shows that they don't want to release something half-baked. I feel like the only reason they didn't push back the entire update is because the community would've lost it.

posted a message on Is Aternos safe?

I've seen a few players use Aternos server hosting, but I'm wondering if it's safe. I know this seems like a really stupid question but bare with me. I've played on one of these servers with a friend, but the fact that it's free seem kinda shady to me.

    Quote from Tisisrealnow»

I have an idea (well my friend did), about a way to get diamonds a bit faster.

Using a Furnace (Or a special table, idk) you smelt coal to get compressed coal. Compressed coal is as efficient as 75% of lava. Using 4 Compressed Coals, you can make a Compressed Coal Block. Using 9 Compressed Coal blocks, you can make a Carbon block. A Carbon Block cant be used for much (well i have no ideas, you can leave them below), but if you smelt that Carbon block, you can get 1 Diamond. Hopefully this process is easy enough to help early game but not hard enough to be worthless. leave your ideas below!

Not a fan of this idea :/

...but what should I be doing? Please don't take this as a negative post toward the game. I only recently got it, and I really don't know what to do. I would really appreciate some tips or guidance.

Things I have done so far:

I've build a small wooden starter house. It has a bed, a crafting table, and a furnace. I fenced in a small lawn. I was told this helps keep monster out and when you get animals you keep them there or something. Anyway, I've also planted a small garden. Not sure what's growing though, except I know I planted three pumpkin seeds. I have stone tools, and I guess I'm supposed to go find some iron now. Guides say it can be found below z-58, but I haven't found any in the mine I dug (think it might be time to look elsewhere). I do have a ton of cobblestone now, though. So yeah, suggestions?

You're literally in a giant sandbox, you can do whatever you think of, but if you really want some advice, I would farm animals, find some villages, create an enchanting table, go to the nether to find blazes and nether warts, kill endermen to get their eyes, combine the eyes with the blaze powder from the nether and travel to The End. And of course, build a huge base with a storage area, a smelting area, a nice bedroom, an area for my farms which I can automate later on with redstone. If you're struggling when building I recommend checking out Grians build school videos on Youtube for some inspiration and tips as well as experimenting building in a creative world.

Another thing, my router can obviously handle wireless because we were playing modded just a few days ago. I really don't know what to do here. :(

I'll give it a shot. But why would it work with the other world?

Are you using wife or a wired connection?

We're both wireless (not using wired because we have an awkward setup) and using the same connection. We're literally a few feet away.

posted a message on Bizarre LAN server behavior

So I decided to start a new world with my brother on 1.8.9, but I've had one of the most bizarre experiences ever in my almost ten years of playing. Basically, I opened the world and for whatever reason he would be able to move around for a few seconds before the whole world would freeze for him. I could still see him moving around but he couldn't see any changes in the world. We both checked our firewalls to see what the problem was but so far nothing has helped and I really don't know what to do now. Also for some reason, as soon as I open the world, I can see my internet go offline in the corner of my screen and even my browser says there's no internet. Eventually we decided to test out a creative world and that seemed to work perfectly fine. Zero lag and I didn't lose connection to the internet. What is happening here, and how/can I fix this?

posted a message on Discussion - Is Minecraft hard to learn?
    Quote from Joey_San»

I was also among the players who started playing Minecraft without having any knowledge of the game from the Wiki or other means, mostly because I didn't even know such a thing existed. And I would say that a lot of the mistakes I made early on would have been avoided had I read the Wiki in that case! However, that's part of the fun for me. As leangreen and others have noted, part of the enjoyment is figuring out how the game is played (much like any other game really). That's one of the things I miss, in fact. At this point, I know everything I need to know about how to play this game, and that has shifted my focus as to what I'm trying to achieve in it. But I miss the "training wheels phase," so to speak, in which I spent a lot of time discovering all the many aspects of the game that exist for us to enjoy. This is partly why I do not update to the newest version right away - I still want to keep this feeling as much as I can without sacrificing the projects I am already doing.

For example, I didn't even know fishing was a thing for at least the first four months I played. Oh, how that would have helped me earlier.

I miss those first few months of my first world. Back when I thought Herobrine and Israphel were real. I think that's just it though. The game felt mysterious for a lot of us, especially for those who went in blind, but that's what gave the game charm. You could argue it's lost some of it, but it's still there. Imagine this, you're a new player, you just bought the game today, you start a new world, going in completely blind, and you find a broken nether portal. You would probably be kinda confused. The same could go for the strongholds and the ocean monuments.

Personally, I play a bit of both. Roblox can be really fun to play with my little bros. Why not just play both whenever you feel like it?. Btw, you shouldn't let others tell you what you should be playing. Play what you want! ^_^

posted a message on Does Painterly still exist for the latest Minecraft versions?
    Quote from Pokedroid64»

I've been playing recently with an old version of the Painterly resource/texture pack, & I was wondering if there was anywhere that had an updated version for 1.16. It's always been my favorite texture pack and it's upsetting that there's nothing like it and it hasn't been updated in forever.

I know this is kinda late but TLDR, no. There is a continuation patch that adds newer textures allowing you to play on newer versions of Minecraft, but there hasn't been an update to the patch in almost half a year now. It's sad to see Painterlypack go, but we may never see Painterly pack for 1.16 and beyond. :(

Is Minecraft a hard game to learn?

In my opinion the game is very complicated and hard to learn

There are so many different things people who play it have to learn, at least in survival mode. farming, hunting, fishing, potion brewing, animal breeding, crafting, fighting monsters, writing in book items, using maps, dying armor, making fireworks, putting patterns on banners (which itself has a huge list of crafting recipes in order to allow people a lot of freedom in what they can put on their banners), mining, architecture in designing the building, knowledge of how to make simulated electronics with redstone, and the list goes on and on and on

I'm glad that there is at least a recipe book which makes it easier for new players.

IMO Minecraft is a pretty hard game to learn, 10 years ago, it was even harder. Before Minecraft entered the beta, items didn't have names, which meant players had to figure out what items were. Also, back then there weren't as many resources as there are today, 2011 was a simpler time. I remember I learned the basics of the game by watching tutorials on the old Minecraft website and by watching the first Yogscast survival series. The game has gotten easier over time. People started to create more tutorials on how to survive, build and create redstone machinery. Of course there's also the recipe book added a few years ago, which helps new player learn how to craft new blocks or items.

    Quote from TheMasterCaver»

None of my mods are Forge mods - you install them directly into the Minecraft jar, as mentioned at the end of the OP, although the link I gave is now broken but here is the original page I linked to; in the case of Forge you don't need to copy and rename folders and files except to have a backup of the original. Here are the instructions from the original link, updated to make them more clear (for one, do not simply rename the jar to .zip and extract it, there may be .class files with names like aux.class, which will be lost or break the extraction process, at least on Windows):

I followed your instructions but for whatever reason it didn't change the cave generation. I created one world in 1.8_Modded and another in vanilla 1.8 with the same seed. I then went to the same cave I did on both worlds and there was no difference. Why is this happening? If it helps, I skipped step 8 because I couldn't find the "downloads" in the JSON file.
