Just so everybody is aware, we are having some technical difficulties, but we are working on resolving them and the server and website will be back up as quickly as we can manage it. I just thought I'd post an update so that nobody panics. Thanks for your patience, everyone!

EDIT: I apologize for the wait, but clashnia is back and fully operational!

Yeah, we went down for maintenance for a little while longer than we thought. We're up and running now. Also there was some Mojang server authentication thing that hit everyone.

Hello all- just a reminder for anyone who is trying to join our server that it is down for maintenance. This kind of thing is not routine, but currently we are addressing a few issues that some players have had, and the server will be up soon. Thank you to everyone for your patience. Also note that, when the server is back up, this post will be edited (a new post will not be made) to avoid any rule-breaking bumping.

Thanks Knite! Not only are we always welcoming new players (literally), we are also always tweaking and adding things (we just added Quake, one of my favorite Minecraft Minigames) to try and provide as much freedom and fun as possible for everyone.

posted a message on A guide on how to make Minecraft survival fun again!

I like the suggestions in the link. What they are suggesting in general is to impose restrictions on yourself in order to have an added challenge. In my opinion, however, the first thing you should do if you find yourself getting bored is to figure out why. Sure, added challenge is nice, but for many people tacking more challenge onto the same things, the same mechanics, just makes it challenging and tedious. For some people it might be seeing the same things is what is boring. In that case, a texture pack might be a good idea. A good texture pack can really make it feel like a brand new game. For others, it really is the challenge aspect; that link will serve you well. Other players think the mechanics are too simple or have become stale... that's when a good mod might come in handy. If you like the survival aspect but think it needs more, then adding a thirst mod or advanced hunger mod (something that requires a variety of foods instead of pork) might do it. If you want a thrill in particular but the peaceful, simple mechanics of Minecraft aren't giving it to you, an apocalypse mod might be your style. I realize that this thread is more suited to how to improve the vanilla experience, but I just wanted to offer a helpful thought for those who might not have that issue in particular. :) That's the great thing about Minecraft; there are so many different ways to play it that when boredom inevitably sets in, there is more than one way to fix it.

Tired of servers that try to add the usual plugins one on top of the other in order to try to lure the playerbase in? Searching for a server where you are not funnelled into a preset playstyle, just wanting to play survival? Or perhaps you're looking for more than the survival experience? Looking around for a server without oppressive staff or obnoxious mechanics? Perhaps you want a server where you belong. You've come to the right place- you've come to Clashnia.

Clashnia is a survival server that has existed since the early days of Minecraft in early 2011 as Clashboard. As Clashnia, our mission remains the same now as it did in the beginning; provide an experience for Minecraft players to join a friendly, close-knit community and play. We are a survival server with a bit of a twist- pvp is enabled at night, and at night, vampires and werewolves come into their own. Will you choose a side in this bloody conflict, or will you stay neutral? We also have minigames including acidisland, a special version of skyblock. We even have a creative world as well as an economy, and we are adding more options and tweaking them all the time. The survival player is not lost between the cracks, however- there is room for all play styles here.

Our motto here is Survive. Build. Befriend. Survive by arming yourself against monsters and perhaps other players which roam the land. Build anything by gathering the resources or entering our creative world and build to your heart's content. Build a tiny cabin or a massive castle. Befriend our stellar community. By joining Clashnia, you join more than a server; you join a community.

Our staff is highly and rigorously trained and meticulously selected to assure server enjoyability. The staff, even the admins, are players too. No out of touch staff, enigmatic are allowed here. Our rules are simple and easy to follow, guaranteeing you the most freedom you can find on any high quality server- griefing is not allowed and your property can be protected by you! If you need a secure place to build and share your builds with your friends, our near perfect uptime and lag free server is a great chocie.
All of this, so what else could this server need? There is one thing lacking: Players like you. Our IP is play.clashnia.com and our website is www.clashnia.com. Definitely stop by.

Yeah, potions are relatively renewable and can help stack the odds in your favor. If you still find yourself unable to conquer a more powerful/more skilled/better equipped opponent, then trickery always helps. Lead him out into the open, and if you have a head start, try to hide (use your crouch) and put yourself in a scenario so that you can ambush them- it should be easy since they will be so overconfident with their powerful equipment that they won't even think about an ambush. Swords swing so fast that if you manage to hit them from behind, you'll have a three hit head start.
Another way to give yourself an advantage is with archery. If you're a much better shot than they are, use that to slow them down. I recommend a punch bow to keep them at bay.

posted a message on Clashnia [Survival] [Minigames] [Vampires]
Clashnia is a survival server with a dark twist- at night, not only do the denizens of the Minecraft world attempt to eat you, you and other players have the ability to become vampires, and as such, pvp only occurs at night. We also possess a fully immersive economy as well as the ability to protect your own property from griefing, not to mention minigames such as paintball and even survival games. This is only a glimpse into the plethora offeatures on Clashnia!

Our motto on Clashnia is Survive, Build, and Befriend. Survive by arming yourselves, grouping up, and fighting back against the monsters that inhabit the land. Build anything to your heart's desire if you can gather the resources- build anything from a small cabin to a castle to a well-oiled defense mechanism. Finally, befriend other friendly members- by joining clashnia, you also join a friendly, helpful community full of people who love the game and the community.

Our staff is friendly, trained, and helpful. Our rules are very simple and easy to follow, guaranteeing you the most freedom you can find on any high quality minecraft server.

Join us and see what Minecraft can truly be- the IP is play.clashnia.com. I hope to see you all there!

In every community there are the good, the bad, and the ugly. There are the helpful, mature users/players, the whiny 9 year old that seems to be unable to speak basic English or the 30 year old that acts like he's 7 and got his Xbox taken away by his mom, and the ugly... need I say really say more on that note?

Shift drinking will be removed. Check my above posts.

I know that, but what I was saying was that it is too easy to grab water in ways you're not "intended" to, like drinking salt water in general. I only used crouch drinking as an example, but there's no penalty serious enough for not drinking fresh water, is my point.

posted a message on Good-bye from a veteran player
Let's discuss each point bit by bit.

"Clay pots, heads, Redstone blocks, Trading, the End, all of these things I believe, while nice, could be fleshed out just a little better."

How do you flesh out a flower pot? Put rotten flesh in it?

"The Enderdragon, while a fearsome boss, is a kiddie by anyone's standards. In fact, I've actually literally just bonked it on the nose."

I'll agree on this. The Enderdragon is too easy as a boss. He's just a common enemy with more HP. It was Notch who said that he'd rather make a game too hard than too easy.

"They have so much potential and I'm sorry to see them only be able to move a block around. They only move some blocks, none of which are ores. It would have made for some interesting gameplay to see an enderman come up, grab that diamond ore and move it in the middle of a lava pool."

They could do that before. I thought it was funny. Then the fans complained about it breaking their structures so it was taken out. Also, Endermen are too easy. They're supposed to be scary and make you hide in your house and cry till morning. Now I stare at them on purpose to taunt them, knowing half the time they'll get mad and... won't chase me? Ok.

"Creepers being afraid of cats was just plain dumb. You make the scariest creature to ever be made...and he's afraid of a houscat. Nice going. To counteract this, they buffed creepers and gave them the ability to charge while jumping. That doesn't swing for me, sorry. You can't replace the fact that you "neutered" a dangerous mob then try to fix it by giving it super abilities."

On hard mode that thing will OHKO you with full iron armor. You very well CAN give it super abilities to contradict it being afraid of cats. Cats are rare and a pain in the butt. It's not like they fall out of the sky.

"However, my argument still stands that the Nether is more of a vacation destination than somewhere you can live."

The nether isn't meant for living anymore than a normal person goes to hell for the winter. If you want to live there, that's your prerogative now that zombie pigmen drop rotten flesh. I don't think it's logical to complain that you can't live in the nether as if it's a new addition, as you CERTAINLY couldn't in beta. I believe the nether has also gotten too easy. It seemed tougher in beta, I dunno.

"We lost the gold apple, replaced with a weaker one. Then the old one came back, so now we have 2 gold apples? On top of that, apples now drop from trees and zombie pigmen drop gold nuggets effectively turning the Gold Apples into common items as well as making gold even less valuable."

Wait, what? So because zombie pigmen have a rare chance to drop a gold nugget, and oak trees has a 1/200 chance to drop one apple, and a weak golden apple takes eight of those nuggets, golden apples are now common? My friend, the only thing that has changed throughout the months is the definition of common, it seems. By the way, the weak golden apples made with eight nuggets of gold gives you like two effects for all of four seconds. The one made with gold BLOCKS (aka 72 ingots of gold) gives you the more powerful effects that we're used to.

"Mushroom stew went from being able to fill up your entire health bar, to healing 4 hunger bars, then to 3 hunger bars."

I agree to an extent. Mushroom stew, for being the only non-stackable food in the game, should heal a bit more, but it never healed the entire health bar. I think it healed 5 hearts?

"Iron golems can spawn in large villages and be killed to get iron ingots which had gotten a spawn boost when Full Release 1.0 came out. Zombies can drop iron get and you can also trade for iron tools and armor from villagers. Slimes spawn in swamps and Witches drop glowstone, glass bottles, and redstone."

That doesn't make iron, glass bottles, glowstone, or redstone any more common. Should I say the wither skeleton skull has become more common because the wither skeleton drops it? Those things you mentioned are rare drops from rare mobs. I can say that iron and coal are just too common already, though, as are caves in general. But I can't say it's the fault of rare mobs that make rare drops.

"I want this glitch back, but implemented so that if you're asleep there is a slight chance of getting a nightmare. Now, you can plonk a bed in the middle of nowhere, need no house, sleep, and wake up not having to deal with the creatures of the night."

That's actually a very good idea. I'd be totally on board for this change, and maybe the percentage of times you get a nightmare would increase based on difficulty level. Why not make that a thread of its own? I would expect there to be a mod for this... but I've been wrong before, a long time ago...

I hate to double post, but after spending more time with this mod I've concluded that there's nothing to keep me from shift drinking from wherever I want and bypassing the whole system. I get a few seconds of nausea, maybe some weakness and a few droplets turn green for a few seconds. Big deal. I think there should be more serious consequences for not drinking fresh water.

I have a suggestion for the future. I believe that thirst goes down too slowly. If indeed it goes down half as quickly as the food meter (depending on saturation), then that's too slow, since we all know the old adage of "you can survive for weeks without food but only three days without water." Maybe you should make it so that thirst goes down on par with the food bar. Perhaps it can go down with speed depending on difficulty level. I also like the suggestions from others where low thirst can actually have effects on you such as nausea or weakness. I think that would really add some nice challenge. I hope to see stuff like that in the future.

Just some food (or rather, drinks) for thought.
