And here's something else to think about for those numbskulls saying that Mojang is doing this to promote Realms...

If Mojang was really trying to make Realms the only viable servers, all they would need to do period is stop releasing updated versions of the server files, and take down the existing downloads. Then realms really would be the only available method of getting a server.

Come on people. Use your brains for more than skull-filling.

Hmm. . .what about perks like. . .25% more XP on some MCMMO skills ?

    That affects gameplay, so no.

Hmm. . .so I am, for example, no longer allowed to give Donator rank perks to get extra pets ? like.

Normal players can only have passive mobs as pets, Donator rank can also get aggressive mobs as pets. (Even though they are not aggressive as a pet, they just look cool.)

This is a great donator rank perk because It is a nice addition to the rank without making it more pay-to-win

This is no longer allowed ?

Cosmetic things, like pets, are still allowed, as long as they don't do anything to change gameplay. So no attack-zombies, but having a Zombie that ONLY follows you around would be ok.

On this I will post similarly to what I had to say on the prior thread.

I ran a medium sized server for over a year. I only paid out of pocked for the first three months. After that, the server was maintained and even upgraded through PURE DONATIONS. I never gave any player any special treatment, no rewards. Just a "Thanks, I really appreciate it! You're the reason I'm able to do this." And a continued place to play.

Provide a GOOD, STABLE, FUN server, and people WILL support it. Yes, they'll do it for NOTHING but the love of the game.

To all of you crying that this is the death of servers... GET OVER YOURSELVES. You make it by on nickle&dime-ing your players, restricting normal aspects of play to a paid service, stuff that people can do in SSP, or any other server by default. You're not providing anything to the player, you're actually RESTRICTING THEM WORSE! THAT is what Mojang is trying to stop. THAT is what caused these issues in the first place. and THAT is nothing but greed on the part of the server owners.

If I had the means to start up another server at the moment (I'm a business owner and that's eating my funding.), I would, just to prove the point. You don't have to stoop to selling other people's work just to keep a server up. The ONLY reason someone would attempt to sell things on MC is to make a PROFIT. And the ONLY people, from ANY legal standpoint, able to profit from sales are Mojang, and any licensed vendor for merchandice. That's normal of ANY COMPANY PERIOD. If you don't obtain a license for the material, you CAN NOT profit from it. I am a business owner, I know what it means to run a company, and you lil entitled brats need to shut your mouths about crap you don't understand. You say your server is your 'business', that they're killing your 'job'. Do you have a license to operate a business for your county? (in the USA, not sure of other country's legal requirements) Did you get a DBA/CoAI? Do you report your income from the servers for Taxation? Trust me... if you go down the roads you are with these arguments... there's a LOT worse than a Ceise and Decist order coming your way.

Edit to add: Playing a game/running a server is a LUXURY. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it. That's not Mojang's problem. It is not their responsibility to make sure you get any kind of money for your servers. Luxury does not equal necessity. If you can't afford it's upkeep, you shouldn't be doing it.

1)There is no possibility of a company being greedy, they already are, if only someone could explain me where the millions went and who took all the money, i don't think even 30% went to actual game development and other costs.
While some servers maybe got a few bucks out of running their server, mojang is bathing in cash. They didn't make a game that required hundreds of developers and 5mil to fund, the base game was made by 1 guy in a few months. After that he received at least 5 times more than he needed to provide salaries for his developers for years. Everything after that was pure profit. All that porting to consoles for extra cash, overpriced t-shirts and now realms (FYI it looks like they are about 2x more expensive than private minecraft hosting and they don't even provide the same service-plugins).

I supported notch and the first stage of mojang when they were indie and actually worked on the game and listened to the community but right now i just cant. They failed to keep their promises and add very simple things that were hugely requested but can't will surely grab on the first easy money they can find.

Reading some articles (Don't know how true this is)
"Mojang makes around $350,000 every day just from the computer release.
Let's even say their company has 100 members, that'd be 3500 euros a day for per a company member.. Shouldn't it be about 2000 euros per month? Not 105000..
Oh and i also found an old pic where notch actually allows people to pirate the game, clearly showing no signs of greediness unlike now..

Here on minecraft forums EVERYONE hates cracked players for no reason (i was cracked for 2 years until i got my first credit card, even though i was a dedicated map maker i received a bunch of hate. As soon as i got my credit card i bought minecraft because i wanted to support it)
Don't know what happened but now he is mad at servers for being p2w or p2p or even just purely f2p with only cosmetics as a buyable option..

2)I can't say anything about legal threats because that's not my area, all i know is that terms of service should protect them and that servers have nothing to do with mojang and are two different things.

TLDR: Company makes a billion more than they need, nobody cares, 1000 people each make 200 euros and everyone loses their minds..

Ok... I'm gonna just break this down.

1: Companies exist to make money. That's just a fact. If there were no profits, none of these things would exist in the first place.
2: Mojang EARNED every penny of sales that they've gotten. Notch created an amazing game that appealed to an almost un-tapped market and did it WELL. Jens is now leading the project and continues to do a bunch of good work on it.
3: No where in any of this did Mojang say they want a cut of those sales. They don't care about someone getting paid. What they've spoken out against is servers selling parts of their game at outragous prices to people. Mostly, to kids who are using their parents' cards without permission.
4: You appear very ignorant of basic marketing dynamics, and about the situation as a whole. Stop listening to trolls, Stop getting your information from the Rumor mill, and try doing a little bit of digging into the facts of the situation before spouting nonsense about greed.

I usually just lurk here... But on this issue, I feel the need to speak out.

The EULA hasn't changed for MC for quite a long time. The part that restricts sale of in-game items or 'perks' of content that Mojang has created has always been there.

Just like back in school, there was that one cool teacher that didn't mind if you chewed gum in class, despite the rule against it. So you chewed your gum. But that one guy in the back kept popping bubbles loudly. So the teacher stops ignoring the gum, and makes everyone spit it out. You have to do it. The rule was there from the start, but only enforced when someone pushes things way too far.

Another analogy, Going down the highway at 5-10 mph/kph over the speedlimit. Usually a cop won't pull you over for that. But when they do, you don't argue that they were doing anything wrong, you take your ticket and get over it. YOU WERE SPEEDING!

The rule has been there. We were all aware of it. You had to click the "I Agree" button.

DO NOT lash out at Mojang. Take your anger out on the guy in the back popping his bubbles.

Edit to add: Also, I was the Admin/Host/Operator for a prominent niche-gaming community's official MC server. I started out paying for everything out of pocket. Roughly $100 month for this. Sure it was a small server, but that's still $100... per month... After the third month operating it, I asked people, "Hey, would you guys mind helping me pay for this server?" And you know what the overwhelming response was? It wasn't "What's in it for us", it wasn't "What are you gonna give us" it wasn't "Am I gonna get loot". The overwhelming response was "YES". Not only did I get enough funding from PURE DONATIONS to run the server for another full YEAR, but also to upgrade the server significantly and turn it into an amazing platform.

A good server CAN operate without SELLING items or perks. At the end of my server, I was running it at about $450 a month, on pure donations. I paid nothing out of pocket. I gave no perks to the players. They gave funding because they loved the server I provided.

    1.9 = (1.8-->1.0) I would just be copying the same....information. <.<

Not quite, there were some things that were added in earlier 1.9 updates that didn't survive to 1.0

Prime example, the water physics. And the ability to use silk-touch to collect spawners.

Check your client mods. It's NOT a MC error. Mod conflicts can cause WEIRD things on servers. My wife plays too, and she had Single Player Commands installed, and until she removed it, she had the exact same problem.

Can I make a suggestion here.

Take the change lists, compile one that goes 1.8.1 -> RELEASE 1.0. That way, we can see the 'official' changes, without all the back and forth of the 1.9 tests. That way, the people who did not follow the updates, or didn't bother with the pre-releases, can get the full picture of the changes, comparing 1.8.1 to 1.0.

That's not a double village, just an unusually large one. Villages always have one well, and at least one farm plot. This village has a single well, and all the farm plots are close together. So, it's not a 'double village' Just a big one.
