While I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift, it's intriguing that she's working with Kendrick Lamar. I can't wait to hear what that collaboration is like.
I don't expect most Taylor Swift fans to know who K-Dot is; here's an example:

Today's rap:
Are those enough examples to show how ignorant it is to dismiss rap as what you're saying it is?

Well, if you have a group of people who can make it work, it seems like you're already set on the Attack on Titan idea. If that doesn't pan out, my personal favorite would be Edward Elric, but my suggestion is that you go as whatever you believe you would pull off best.

Everything feels.. flat.

It's so irritating when people generalize the lyrical quality of rap. Yes, there are rappers out there who spit nonsense. First off, that's not everyone. Second, so what? Not all music is meant to be thought provoking, nor does every new artist need to emulate those who came before them.
Back on topic.
As far as active (as in, currently making music), these are some of the best in my book:
Vince Staples, Kendrick Lamar, Mick Jenkins, Clipping, Father, Pusha T, Ethereal, Lil Ugly Mane, GoldLink, Freddie Gibbs, Isaiah Rashad, Mac Miller (new stuff is actually dope), Gorgeous Children, Ratking, Earl, RetcH, Denzel Curry, Raider Klan, Da$H, Busdriver, MF DOOM, Death Grips, Open Mike Eagle, Flatbush Zombies, The Underachievers, Keithcharles Spacebar, LuiDiamonds, Black Milk, Madlib/Quasimoto, Chance The Rapper, Captain Murphy/Flying Lotus, Rejjie Snow, NxWorries, Antwon, The Roots, and Jonwayne.
That’s just off the top of the head, haha. Some of my favorites from my past:
N.W.A., Kool Keith (I'm just going to pretend his new stuff doesn't exist), The Fugees, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DJ Screw, Wu Tang Clan, KMD, J Dilla, Mos Def (not sure if he’s currently active), Hieroglyphics, Lord Finesse, Big L, Binary Star, DANGERDOOM (though both members are active, they no longer collaborate), A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, OutKast, Mobb Deep, Clipse, Slick Rick, Smif-n-Wessun, Naughty By Nature, Chubb Rock, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian, Eyedea, D.I.T.C., and, of course, greats like 2Pac, Biggie, NAS, KRS-One, etc.

Reminds me of Jade from Homestuck :o. Was that intentional? I like it either way!
