My personal opinion so far: the server runs very smoothly and Nightsaver definitely has a level head on his shoulders. We had a few hours to chat last night and I get the solid impression that he knows exactly what he wants to do with the server. It's nice to come to a new server that has an action plan already laid out. I'll be sticking around!

I do recommend filling out an application. It's worth the time!

What position are you applying for?
    ----- Moderator, Admin if available

    AGE:
    ----- 27

    IGN:
    ----- ThomasBoyd

    Location:
    ----- Wisconsin (Central Time)

What times of the week will you be available:
----- Mornings and afternoons, all day when not at work. ~8 hours a day on average.

Why should you be apart of our staff? (Must be at least two paragraphs long)
----- I subscribe to the idea that mutes, kicks and bans should be reserved as an absolute last resort on any server that wishes to build a loyal playerbase. I've watched servers collapse under the weight of aggressive and impatient staff members and I have always worked toward doing just the opposite. Moderators who use /ban as a crutch are only guaranteeing that a potentially small issue will become a greater problem when players come to expect immediate kicks and bans from their staff. Having the ability to sit down, take a breath and talk to the conflicting parties and work toward a mutual resolution is a skill I don't often see in moderators or admins on some very large server. I'd like to bring those skills here.

I'm 27 years old and work alongside three other supervisors at my local not-for-profit charity. We employ people of all walks of life, ranging from people with physical and cognitive disabilities to those who are working their assigned community service hours. I had a chance to meet individuals with struggles that I've never experienced and who have come from backgrounds I simply can't give justice to through description. Having a chance to work with and supervise such a dynamic group of people has given me a wellspring of patience and optimism that I've applied to my life outside work and online. Even in something as relatively trivial as a video game, it's a point of pride to be able to extend those opportunities to players within the game.

    Experience:
----- I owned and operated a 32-slot SMP Survival server (Seaside Minecraft SMP) for just over a year and a half. During that time I managed a team of 3 Admins and 6 Moderators, all of whom got along like family. Our server ran at or near capacity every night which made it an enjoyable challenge to divide my time between building my city and guiding my staff. Seaside was an amazing adventure and I truly do miss the time I spent there. Sadly, I was forced to close the server down due to some unexpected family and financial issues. Since no longer have the funds required to start up a server of the quality I had with Seaside - and I refuse to start a server dependent on player donations - I thought it was time to take a step out of the owner's chair and slide back into Administrating!

Do you have skype and a mic: (If so what is your skype name)
----- I have a headset and Ventrilo, but Skype has never really appealed to me. If it's a requirement, I can hop on and get an account going.

    posted a message on Lanterns
Thus far all lighting must be placed in a fixed position, which is fine when you have four stacks of torches on hand. But for those of us who would like to give caves and tunnels a little more of a creepy vibe, why not make a lantern we can carry with us? It could function just like an oven does now: add a burnable fuel that would be consumed over a fixed lifetime.

And as an added risk, perhaps implement a feature that allows the lantern to lose durability if equipped when a player is attacked or uses it as a makeshift weapon. If the lantern breaks it spills burning fuel creating an even larger hazard that would offset some of its convenience. It would certainly create a challenge for anyone daring enough to load it with a lava bucket!
