Introduction. Do you have a corrupted Minecraft world that is worth it for you? This tool is a python script that tries to fix problems in region files. It can find some typical errors (corrupted chunks, wrong located chunks, too many entities problems), and can fix these errors in various ways (deleting the chunks, replacing them with a backup copy, or relocating the chunk).
This is a command line application. You have to use it in a terminal in GNU/Linux or a command line (typical MS-DOS view) in Windows. To open the command line in windows run the plication "cmd". You can find usage examples in the readme.
What does this tool do? You can read about what this tool do in the FAQ wiki page at GitHub.

Take some time to write a positive feedback or donate if you feel like so.
Questions, feature requests, problems, suggestions... If you have problems using region-fixer and want some help, please give some information in your post, for example:
- Operative system
- Python version (regionfixer only works on python3)
- Full command used to run it.
- Full error, everything, if possible, all the text visible until the next prompt. That means that you have to show even what you have written in the command line. Please conceal any sensitive information.
- Just in case you've got an old version, Region-Fixer version, use --version to see it
Suggestions and bugs should go to the github page:

Patches affecting software version identifiers is an industry standard dating back decades and there is absolutely no reason not to do it, it brings consistency and awareness of progress to those who need it (servers, modders...). The system right now works just fine; bugfixes and security updates increment the right-most value while major content updates increment the middle one.
Also, Mojang is the one developing, releasing and labelling these updates, not MS.

The 2nd and 3rd line strongly indicate that he was just joking and saying he was dreaming it.

Playing the game without backups in general is a bad idea, both because you can't foresee hardware failures or data corruption, and of course the game is broken to the point of hilarity at this point, experienced players probably die more often to glitches than actual gameplay dangers. Another "fun" glitch to watch out for that nearly had me walk straight off the edge of my tower to my death: beds can spawn you on the wrong side of a structure if the diagonal is air or you are using glass panes at floor level.

Like he said, there is zero correlation between the two, you are just pulling a claim from thin air, without providing any code examples or statistical data to back it up.
As for the cave structure, this is just one of the several "building blocks" of the game's cave systems, ravines are another example. You don't need to explore many large cave systems to pick up on the different formations, it all becomes really predictable and systematic just like the terrain gen aboveground.

Just a fyi, MS aren't actually developing the game, they just "own it", Mojang is still the developer and still has the same vastly under-manned team as before.

Coding has no relevance here, the lack of snapshots is all about release tactics. The combat system isn't some kind of an anomaly that can't be incrementally developed, it's just changing numbers and adding features like every other update has been doing.
Snapshots are intended for testing, exactly to help 'them' develop updates by letting a huge number of players seek out bugs, and see how the players react to the changes and additions as well. Their reasoning for not releasing snapshots is kind of backwards in that regard, but yes, combat system is something that is very much controversial (deathmatch players have strong opinions on it). Some are happy to change it while others would go bonkers if the fist damage was changed from 1 to 1.25, there is no win-win and I guess Mojang simply don't want to have to fight a whining mob of people while developing it and would rather make everything ready until 'they' are happy and then perhaps do post-adjustments based on majority opinions.

Funny that you mention the sound system, he still hasn't fixed the sound replay bug, over 1.5 years after it was first discovered post-rewrite and still counting. If you haven't encountered this bug, you can easily reproduce it with the inventory key and some timing, just open a door and quickly open your inventory and close it again, if the timing is right the door sound will play again when you close the inventory. This happens to me especially often when opening chests, but it can happen with any sound, I have had cave noises replay.
There is no way one person can rewrite two major systems in one day, for the record, especially when graphics isn't even DB's home turf. Wasn't this after they got MogMiner on the team? He was their main graphics guy.

Infinity is really out of place in the game in my opinion, should have worked more like Unbreaking where each shot simply has a % chance to not spend an arrow.

Thanks for the correction, that is at least somewhat encouraging I guess. Searge does seem to be the more productive and skilled guy on the team, at least from the surface.
Any ways, 1.8.5 was just rolled out. It's great they fix bugs and security holes, but these 1.8 patches are not exactly impressive compared to the backlog on the bug tracker. The gameplay related bugs are the things that people notice the most, too: When are untamed wolves going to stop despawning when their chunk unloads? When will I no longer need to restart the client just so that maps work after crossing a dimension? Or when will leads stop breaking on chunk unloads? When will enchanted tools with Unbreaking stop magically re-appear after they break? When will river generation in Large biomes world preset work correctly again? Etc. etc.
We have reached a point where the community is actually researching and providing example fixes for these bugs in the comments on the bug tracker, and Mojang still don't do anything about them, it is just embarrassing.

The PC version dev team is a joke at this point, there are 3 guys working on it (the few days of the year when they aren't on vacation or playing the PE version), none of whom have any professional experience and were taken from the mod community. It also speaks volumes that the lead PC version developer (Jeb) spends most of his time on the PE version.
These guys don't have a clue what they are doing. Mojang needs game designers, and programmers who have a better work ethic, a lead developer who actually knows how to lead and maintain a team wouldn't hurt either.
