No because if you add new mobs then it shall work with old saves.
Also the mods that adds mobs could give you lag (i dont really know but i could be that)

If you use modloader then try to use it's Texture Override function so modloader automaticly puts the texture into terrain.png (I Don't remember how to use it

you cannot use test_game.bat with modloader. theres no ways to do that.
