this is what i mean: the gray grass texture is the shape of what the grass will look like, and the grass side block is what the icon will look like in your inventory. i was asking for help on making the grass in-game look the same as the grass side block.
Can you upload a copy of your terrain.png? Also, consider these two files under /misc:
grasscolor.png and foliagecolor.png
These files are references for different colors used for grass and leave "hues". There is also some code (yes code) for this, depending on what version you are running.
So, again -- lemme know what version of MineCraft you are running and building out texture packs for.
Exactly, But how do I make the grass side block look like the green grass in-game so it will look the same?
Sorry for the delay. Kinda took a break from this forum due to personal reasons.
So, you encountered the same darn problem I did ?? The GRASS doesn't match everything else, right?
What version of Minecraft are you working with? I ask, because some of this is taken care of in the code for older versions... BUT, there is also an external file you can edit!
Lemme know what version you are running and I'll tell you how I did my best to fix my textures!
Your tutorial is flawed. NEVER EVER -EVER- replace the files that are in the minecraft.jar. ALWAYS make the new files into a texturepack. Elsewise you can muck things up and some files can appear screwed up badly by editing them, resulting in blank blocks and what not. We just had to resolve an issue with another user whos graphics were screwing up/not working, because he placed them into the jar and not as a texture pack.
On top of that, there is already a section of the guide that tells you how to properly pull the files from the minecraft.jar, and properly repack them as a texture pack. Because of that, and the fact you're telling people to place their textures in the jar, over writing the default textures, I highly doubt it would get approved.
I appreciate the feedback and constructive criticism. As with all things Minecraft, it probably is flawed along with my tutorial as I am coming from this standpoint:
Former Minecraft dev/modder who has returned
Working with version 1.4.7 (default/external texture packs), and even the core code
The minecraft.jar file is transient and 80% of all Minecraft problems are resolved by clearing this from Application Data. What I am trying to do is give an outside approach to working on one's on localized Minecraft install. I.E., not XBOX 360, etc.
I did paste a huge disclaimer for all viewers:

I have not had a chance to break out into Texture Packs with Editing Programs: that was a starting point.
However, based on your Membership Level, my recent return to a game I loved tooling around with a few years ago, and in general... your lack of offering a solution/doc that this community has sought since 2011... I will delete my post, gladly and in kind, to leave your retort only as a helpful tip to other people.
I also tried to make a Skeleton sprite last night.
It's very difficult handling it without making it look too much like some corny Haloween costume... Anyhoo it's my current av.
I am out of votes for the day, DRAT! I love this skin because it reminds me of The Who: John Entwhistle's infamous "black leather with white bones stiched on" suit... EPIC!

Indeed, it is. In fact, I was doing this tutorial from one of my development laptops (which is running Windows XP and using Java 1.6.xx.
ALWAYS make a backup of minecraft.jar before mucking with it, though!
Thanks for the kudos, btw. I'll be fixing the missing graphics (photobucket delete = my fault) and adding more for terrain/textures.
The community has given me so much that this is the leasssssst I can do!

Yup -- I wanted to ensure I followed the rules about posting (for review and inclusion).

I am certain others have done this skin before, so pardon the redundancy. SkinEdit #3 success!
