A lot of the Minecraft YouTubers are unique in that what they build is original. Yes, it can be satisfying to replicate things, but I find much more satisfaction in brainstorming my own builds and bringing them to life. I feel like a copycat when I look at Etho's lab and decide to build it. Maybe sit down with some pen and paper and use your own imagination to come up with a base you'd like to live in, and then bring it to life in game!

You could make a thread here on the forum for yourself or do what I did and make a blogger account. Whichever you choose, you can then put a link to it in your signature. Not hard at all.

Make sure you have goals in your world and are always working towards something. The game isn't complete until you say it is. If you have no creations in mind and don't have anything to progress towards, of course it is going to loose its charm. The way I overcame my most recent Minecraft creativity block was by creating a survival blog/journal (check it out in my signature). By documenting what I do and sharing it, I always have something to keep me working and producing content. It is also really cool to look back and see how far I've come, even just in a few posts! It is up to you to make the game interesting, and you just have to find out how to do that for yourself.

Try going 404! For those of you that don't remember what this implies, it means don't use torches. Find a way to light your home only by using alternative lighting sources. Pumpkins, glowstone, lava, and redstone lamps can really spice up the look of a base and add an extra challenge to the game that isn't too difficult.

I don't really notice it that much because I strictly play survival single player, but I do see quite a few threads that are pretty much incoherent jibber jabber and I can't imagine playing with a bunch of 10-13 year old kids. Turning on some music and playing Minecraft is how I unwind after work every day, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am currently working on an underground base. I'm spending a lot of time on it, and progress is slow, but here are a couple pictures:

Just an underground wheat farm and storage room so far, but check out my blog in my signature to see how I got to where I am and where I will go in the future!

posted a message on What's your best build on survival?
I wish I had a picture of my best survival build. It was a couple computers ago and way back to right after the alpha-beta transition. I had a circular tower made out of glass and logs with a roof made entirely out of wool that went all the way up to the build limit, which was way less back then. There were many floors, and they included everything from tree farms to redstone laboratories. Underground beneath the tower was a mob farm that automatically killed the monsters and sent the loot to my basement. It was a great build, but long ago. I wish I still had the world.

I was talking about Etho's SSP world. I admit I don't watch the CrackPack, I am a vanilla kind of guy. Though I do very much enjoy TerraFirmaCraft. Anyways, I'm working on making a giant underground base that goes a little over-the-top. I'm talking massive farms and other projects I don't really want to reveal for the sake of my survival journal. I'm working on a wheat farm now and will post a picture when I'm done. It's really hard to clear out massive rooms when you haven't managed to get enchanted diamond pickaxes yet, but I'm working on it.

Does anybody build strictly underground? I'm not talking like a room or two, but a massive system of rooms and chambers all linked together underground. I am beginning a home like this in a world that I am using for a journal (check out the blog in my signature), and I want some good inspiration. I like Etho's underground setup, but I am looking for something more large-scale and industrial if that makes any sense. Over the top is what I'm going for in my world. Any inspiration related to this would be much appreciated!

posted a message on The Strangest Thing You've Seen In Minecraft
Back in early beta I had a world that had huge areas of nether in the overworld. It was a generation bug that fixed itself after a relog and never occurred again, but it was cool nonetheless to see huge areas of nether in the daylight of the overworld.

I worked a lot on a new world of mine. I got a lot of preliminary things done and now I'm at the tedious point of finding sugar cane and breeding cows to get bookshelves. I always hate this part of the game, but it must be done! For a (much) more detailed account of my activities in Minecraft, check out the blog in my signature. If you like to read and like Minecraft, it's for you!
