Good advice. A lot kinder than what I had in mind too, heh.

Colloquially, you should do some research and see which language appeals most to you, and if it's capable of producing games easily.

You make it sound like LogBlock won't do fire and doors; it does.

posted a message on Any ideas for my gaming pc I am building/what fps will I get with 32 gbs of ram?
    Quote from karlzhao314»

Nope. Tried 1.8 and 1.9, and neither used more than 1 core.

To be completely honest it's unlikely that they'll ever add multi-core support. Multithreading isn't trivial to add; they'd basically have to rewrite the entire engine.

According to the bountiful update release notes, it does have multi-thread support:

    Rendering & performance
Each dimension (Overworld, Nether, End) run on separate threads.
Chunk rendering and chunk rebuilds are now multi-threaded to speed them up.
Mob pathfinding is now multi-threaded, to alleviate previous slow-downs associated with it.

posted a message on Looking to start a host - Any suggestions?

Best advice would be.. don't. The community is already overloaded with kids trying to run businesses. The last thing people need is another person without experience or apparently even a business plan trying to sell services.

posted a message on I want a gaming computer for running a minecraft server.

Thank you, So this will host a server such as the server named: play.towncraft.us? Towncraft is a server i play on a lot and really enjoy it, me and a few friends want to set up our own like it but with a few adjustments. Could this run mods on single player as well as I am also wanting to make a minecraft youtube channel.

The box Alexx spec'd could very easily run mods on single player. If all you are gonna do is play MC and host a server, not sure if I'd waste ~$650 on a video card though. That's overkill for that use. No need for an $80 cooler either unless you plan to overclock. Throw more RAM in too. People say ~100 meg per player, so 75 players would be about half of that RAM. Then you have to account for Windows needs, your own needs as you play, RAM for MySQL and whatever other random stuff you decide to run and room for future playerbase expansion.

posted a message on [Discussion] Is it morally wrong to use an ad blocker?

I can't believe you all are still going on about this. Obviously you're not going to change someone's mind.

If a website owner opens a site expecting to pay for it via advertising, they are idiots that deserve their site to go down. That'd be an stupid plan, no reliable sustainment.

To the people saying "well I never got a virus".. an effective virus makes no obvious impact on the system. You could be infected with all sorts of viruses and not know it. 0 day exploits don't always get caught by scanners either. Unless you are meticulously watching your network traffic, you could be part of a botnet and not even know. http://www.theverge.com/2015/8/25/9202301/advertising-malware-malvertising-statistics-flash-vulnerability Just because you wish really hard for it not to be a real threat, doesn't make it so.

All told, I couldn't care less. I'm a selfish self-absorbed consumer and it doesn't bother me one bit :P I'm the kind of jerk that torrents but disables seeding. I know that even if a website dies because of lack of funding, some other competitor site will spring up. And if it doesn't? Oh well, I guess I'll go watch TV instead of surfing the net. No skin off my nose lol

I don't think the sites have as much say in the matter as we might like, a lot of the time.

Well, so long as advertising companies use ads that pop up and block the page or those annoying audio/video ads and sometimes malware infected ads, it doesn't matter much whether or not the website owner is complicit. If the ads are garbage, they're getting blocked regardless. If they are getting hurt financially due to the bad ads, they can just move to another ad source.

Backing up your files can help but it's not a catch-all. You'll always lose something. If you're an artist and you back up on the first of every month, and then you get a virus on the 30th, you're out of luck.

I should hope people with important files backup more than once a month, lol. My files aren't super important yet I still run a backup every night.

    Quote from Bubba339»

If your that worried just get inti-virus. Once my computer had such bad viruses on it that I couldn't install Mcafee, so I bought AVG instead and that removed all the viruses. :)

Antivirus doesn't always catch newest stuff, heuristics aren't the end all and be all.

One terabyte sounds good. I didn't realize it was so cheap.

    Quote from Strahan202»

As you don't plan to suddenly start collecting a bunch of BD rips or something, the one recommended would be fine. If you want more space, stepping up to larger sizes isn't too expensive but if you aren't a big media collector 1 TB will be plenty.

8 TB is not what I'd call an "insane" amount of space. My server downstairs has 42 TB. Heck, eight wouldn't even hold half of my anime collection, lol.

No, I just watch stuff on Hulu and Netflix. 42 terabytes?? You can't be serious. The biggest hard drive is like four terabytes right? That would be over ten of them, how would you even fit them in a case?

My computer is running low on space. I have a 500 gigabytes drive and it's down to about 50 free. I only have about $100 or so to spend. What do you think I should get? My friend has two three terabyte and two one terabyte hard drives in his computer. That's an insane amount of space, I don't need that much just something that will last me another year or two. Any suggestions?

    Quote from Spark»

It's getting a Japanese dub soon (From a very professional cast too). So you can pretty much call it an anime now. It's not, but people like to class it one.

Being dubbed by the Japanese doesn't make something an anime. It's just anime inspired. Not that I think it matters how one labels something or where it is produced; quality is what matters to me.
