I was mining in a cave when I heard footsteps behind me. Wheeling around, I saw two creepers headed my way! I had no armour, only an iron pick axe. So I bolted, sprinting through the cab system getting lost on the way, and ran into a skeleton! He fired a shot, and knocked me back. That was when I saw the mineshaft to my right, which I quickly ran into. I saw a pit and tried to run around it but another skeleton rounded a corner in front of me and shot me, knocking me back into the pit! Just my luck, the pit intersected a cave spider spawner area and was full of cobwebs with a lava lake at the bottom! I watched in horror as I slowly sank towards the lava. Just before my feet touched the lava, a herd of cave spiders rampaged towards me and attacked! I was at one heart when I hit the lava.
The fact that it uses ranged attacks suggests that it is most likely a made-up mob, not relative to anything real life.
And the underwater dungeon and new items? My guess is they'll be like shipwrecks. But the items I have no clue.
Has it been specified if they will spawn naturally, from spawners/inside the dungeon or if there is there only one? Having a ton of these in one area would be really annoying with the limited mobility and projectiles, and if they are anything like squid they will spawn in the smallest of ponds.
They, and the dungeons, will likely only generate in ocean biomes and the mob will probably require darkness to spawn as well.
I was making a building one day in minecraft, and just happened to place some end stone next to some cobble stone. A terrible combination, I know, but stick with me here.
Then I noticed something awful. The end stone texture is IDENTICAL to the cobble texture! It's only been recoloured!

The person would simply trhow it away like when you get a bane of artrhopods on your sword...
Bane of Arthropods is a lot better than people think. It does bonus damage not only against spiders and silverfish, but against any creature with more than 2 legs. It's been tested.

So, this hostile mob is in the latest snapshot already?

But seriously though, this mob could be anything. Mermaid of some kind? Serpentine sea monster? Underwater skeleton? "Sea horse"?
