posted a message on Herobrine as a fully autonomous A.I in game

This seems like an awful lot of work, not to mention some technical difficulties (or impossibilities) to overcome just to make what boils down to a new mob that is a bit smarter.

Plus, Herobrine has never been a compelling character or creepypasta. It is just another lazy take on the "It looks like the player, but is EEEVVVILLL!" trope that has been done to death in media, especially in video games.

posted a message on End Rod Horse Armor

Instead of an actual block light update, it could be handled via a shader or lighting effect and only when the horse is being ridden. A shader wouldn't prevent mob spawns because it isn't "real light" but if the range of the effect is the same range as a normal torch it won't matter because hostiles don't spawn that close to the player anyways (unless from a spawner).

posted a message on Minecraft Name Change Bug.

As others have said, sounds like a rounding bug in the message. If I had to guess, I'd assume the system records the exact date and time of the name change, then adds 30 days to it.

So if you change your name at 1:30 PM on 10/1/19, you can't change your name again until after 1:30 PM on 10/31/19. The system message then probably looks at the total time remaining and rounds down, so from 1:31 PM on 10/30/19 the message will probably say 0 days until you actually complete the entirety of the 30 days.

posted a message on I just don't get Fortune on a book

Based on the current replies there seems to be some general confusion about what you want but I'll try to help.

The problem with enchanting books is four-fold. First, books have a lower "enchantability level" than anything else, which makes it less likely to get good enchantments on them in general.

Second, books are less likely to have multiple enchantments compared to other items. Partially because of the lower enchantability, and also because there is an additional mechanic attached to books when using an enchanting table. If the game is set to put more than 1 enchantment on a book via enchanting table, it will remove one of the enchantments at random. This is all determined before you even enchant the book, so you can't see it happening. Those two things mean books usually only have the enchantment the table shows you before enchanting it.

Third, because books can be enchanted at an enchanting table with anything besides treasure enchantments, the overall pool of items you can get is higher, which means the chance of getting a specific enchantment is much lower. Before getting into the "weight" of different enchantments consider that a Pickaxe can have 4 different enchantments added from an enchanting table. So Fortune would be a 1/4 chance of being applied (again, the is ignoring the "weight" of enchantments). Meanwhile a book can get 33 different enchantments, making the chance of any particular one being 1/33.

Lastly, the "weight" of an enchantment matters. Each enchantment has a value that makes it more or less likely to appear when enchanting. The higher the value, the more likely you will get it. Fortune has a weight of 2, which makes it appear way less than say Protection or Sharpness, which each have a weight of 10.

So in summary, everything about how the enchanting system is built is working against you in this particular scenario. If you want Fortune on a specific item, you are better off making that item and if you don't see it in the table, enchant something else to reroll the enchantments and try again later.

Or try to find one a different way of finding enchanted books. I seem to have better luck finding Fortune books while fishing, because I usually pick up enough random treasure to make a Luck of The Sea, Lure, Mending fishing rod pretty quick which makes finding enchanted books pretty safe and easy, although kind of tedious.

posted a message on Honey Pistons that spit out blocks on the first activation, then pull it back the second activation

Okay, I just wanted to make sure I understood it. That said, making a regular sticky piston behave like this is already very easy, although it takes up a bit of space. Plus it doesn't really make sense for the honey being slathered on the face of the piston to change how the piston itself works.

I'd rather have the logic gate that allows the functionality to exist currently be condensed into a single block, as it would achieve the same end result and be way more versatile.

Isn't this just a Sticky Piston connected to a logic gate that toggles on or off each time it gets a redstone pulse?

I'm removing second part of the thread about the Spelunker potion, as we have a rule that multiple unrelated ideas in a single thread are not allowed. Feel free to post a separate thread about the Spelunker potion in a separate thread.

posted a message on My game is broke how to fix

As they said in the ticket you linked, your computer is not powerful enough to run the latest version of the game. Maybe it managed to chug along on previous versions of the game, but it won't work on the latest version. That stinks, but you should still be able to play previous versions until you upgrade your PC.

This is something that I have strongly been opposed to Mojang doing, in a sense anyways. If you release a game that runs on X hardware, then update it so that it can no longer play on X hardware, that seems like a poor business practice to me.

I understand that the things they are implementing that make it unplayable on old hardware are supposed to (theoretically) make it run better on more modern hardware, but whether that has actually been true is debatable, as we've seen countless discussions here after updates about if the game runs better or worse for people after updating.

That said, the reason I've been willing to give Mojang a pass on this in the past because the game has supported REALLY old hardware, which has been part of the reason performance improvements have been so hard to implement for the 99% of players who aren't playing on antiquated technology.

posted a message on How many nether stars have you obtained? [Poll]

Exactly zero. I've never thought the reward for getting a Wither Star was worth the effort involved in going after one. As much as I like Minecraft, the bosses and the rewards for fighting them is one of my least favorite parts of the game.

posted a message on Trident enchantment woes

I believe Infinity is due to a bug. This is exactly the type of scenario where I believe chucking that Trident into Lava and using /give to give yourself a proper one with Mending is appropriate. Because it should be possible, but the game having a bug is stopping you from doing so.

posted a message on Tree Roots

So if I have this correct, you want to make a new block that requires a stone pickaxe to get, costs fuel to turn into an item that you must then throw into water in order to get a Stick, which you can already get from the tree itself. Additionally, you can use it as a fuel that is worse than already existing fuels, including logs (which again, you can get from the tree itself)?

    ... Why?

posted a message on Minecraft clients, Especially Future

Locking, as this client does violate the EULA, as mentioned. And while I cannot verify if this is the case for this particular client, many cheat/hack clients for games contain malware or will steal account information and generally are not considered trustworthy.

posted a message on Is it okay to do this stuff in rl craft, or is it cheating?

I'd say go for it, but also to be mentally prepared for a bunch of people to say you are a cheater and be generally just awful anyways.

We are talking about YouTube comments after all, which are usually a maelstrom of anger and idiocy on their best days.

posted a message on Blocks on Boats (and leaded and adhesive boats) AND BOAT CONTRAPTIONS!

I don't really like any of this I'm afraid. Chests on boats is a good idea (I voted for the swamp biome in the biome update which would have included a boat with a chest), but limiting it by putting an arbitrary weight system ruins it for me.

The TNT boat is an interesting idea, but again I think it is poorly thought out. It doesn't follow any kind of logic (real life logic or logic surrounding existing game mechanics). And at the end of the day it would just make more sense to ride a boat out to your target, plant TNT on it from your inventory, light it, then ride away.

Furnace boats are fine I guess. Except for the fact normal boats already move 8 blocks per second on flat water, at least according to the Wiki.

Redstone Block Boat: Makes more sense to just carry Flint and Steel.

Combining boats: Not a bad idea at all, but the mechanics aren't detailed enough for me to outright support it.
