As long as your 550W is decent enough quality and can actually provide its labled power output it will most certainly power the 280 without any issues if not then you would need to replace it though 600W would not be required
I just ordered the R9 280. Just a question though, are you positive that a 600 watt PSU isn't needed or advisable? I was talking to my friend and he said he'd recommend it just to be safe.
Alright so I looked at the R9 280 and I was wondering which would be better. There's this (Gigabyte brand) or this (MSI Brand). I've heard better reviews of MSI in general, but the Gigabyte's version of the 280 has three fans. Which one should I go with?
I built my custom PC 2 years ago and it's been working great until just yesterday. It has shut off while playing games twice recently. I assumed that's because something is getting too hot, so I rebooted my computer and opened Speccy instantly and my graphics card was at 70 degrees Celsius. Nothing in my case has been moved so the airflow should still be fine. I assume it's just the graphics card's fan.
Currently I have this (XFX Radeon 6870) graphics card. It has one fan that doesn't seem to get the job done. I've been looking through other graphics cards and saw great reviews on this one (Sapphire Radeon R9 270x). It has two fans which would help keep it cooler than my current one. I'm just wondering if it'd be worth it, and make sure there wouldn't be a bottleneck happening with my CPU. I have an Intel i3 2120 @3.4 GHz. If I were to upgrade to the R9 270x, would I notice a performance increase as well, assuming no bottleneck from the CPU?
I decided I'd show off my plot on the Minevast server. I've always loved caves and nature in general, so I sorta themed my plot around that. I fortunately recorded a video of my plot before the world was accidentally deleted the next day. The video is 12 minutes long but the first minute is skippable (some of it is just me talking about the process too, so if you're not interested, that can be skipped). In the video, I'm using the Shaders mod which makes my plot look beautiful.
If you don't feel like watching, I have 2 screenshots of it (however, this is the videos subforum thing so I assume you came for videos )
Thank you for watching!Hope you enjoy it!

I find 1.8 to be the one of the most interesting and content-packed update since Beta 1.8 or 1.3. Will there be stairs/slabs of the new blocks like Diorite, Granite, prismarine, etc? It shouldn't be hard to add, since it could just be retextured cobblestone slab/stairs. Recently I've gotten into the creative aspect of Minecraft and would love for those to be added. I haven't been keeping up with the updates, however, so I don't know if this has been discussed or not.
Currently I'm on a plot server and I'm making a neat nature build with a lot of land variation with hills, caves, and rivers. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any examples that could give me inspiration, or if anyone has tips on what makes a nice overgrown foresty feel. I'm using trees, rivers, lush caves slightly overgrown with vines, mycellium, etc. Any help is nice

That is my PSU. Is that good enough? It's seemed good so far.

I looked at the 280 and found an MSI and Gigabyte version. MSI is cheaper, but Gigabyte is slightly faster and has 3 fans. Which should I go for?
Also, my PSU is 550 Watts. Would I need to upgrade that as well?
