Same happened to me. I was using a mod that changes terrain generation back to beta (Hey! I like nostalgia) and when my client upgraded to 1.3.2 and the mod was rendered null, being 1.2.5 still, the bottom unexplored part was rendered like that. I don't explore too much, so it's not a problem, but the solutions and answers made me realize I can exploit it.
