Yeah, when you know the textures, it's easy to tell them apart, but I prefer if players can recognize blocks without having to see other blocks to distinguish them.
Anyway, this is Alvoria's choice, so we should wait for his opinion.
So since my last attempt at sandstone got absolutely no comment, I assumed that that meant that it was horrible and redid it to be more horizontal and slightly less sand-like.
And if this version still gets no comment I will continue to assume that it is horrible... but will probably not redo it again because honestly I'm out of ideas.
I think it still looks pretty much like sand. As Deonyi has said, stronger demarcation between layers would help. Try to give it a slight 'cobbly' or 'bricky' look.
Anyway, if that texture were used as sand, it would be an awesome texture
EDIT: Just rotate 90º what is supposed to be smooth sanstone (the one which doesn't have a shield) and use it as regular sandstone. It could work.
So I experimented with shading... or, rather the lack thereof.
Opinions?
I see them a little bit... blurred. So I can't appreciate the detail. Anyway, the color choice for dirt and grass, snow, etc. is good. I like colourful blocks.
I would add horizontal CTM to make planks have vertical stripes, but just the leftmost and the rightmost blocks. I think it's the best choice (and I'm gonna add that to my pack, actually).
We, resource pack authors, are part of the Minecraft community, part of Minecraft itself. Mojang should listen to us, as well as they listen (or pretend they do) to normal users about gameplay.
I was gonna tell Mojang about your suggestions anyway Better if we act together.
With that said, I'd like to help you. What do you need exactly, Alvoria?
I've decided to work on a new pack, taking some Quadral inspiration, but keeping my own style, and taking mine as a base and changing things till I reach to the point it becomes a new pack. I made the top and side grass block and the tall grass:
Ignaf, I remember something about changing Face Data to 1. Don't know if it was Face Data or another name, but I'm sure about the 1. If you want, tomorrow I can send you a fern model I made for my pack, which is applied colormaps, so you take a look at it.

Thanks! CTM in both smooth and chiseled is meant to look like obelisks. Best if used as pillars.

I know. I use bricky sandstone because it's much better for buildings (such as desert temples).
Sand could be less patterning if I added random textures, something I'll do when I've finished the other textures of the pack.

Some more of the stuff I've been working on:
Sand, sandstone, smooth sandstone, smooth sandstone CTM, chiseled sandstone, chiseled sandstone CTM, cobblestone, mossy stone.
Your opinion?

Those bricks, though...

Yes, I was looking in your pack
I usually look into the MCPatcher folder of other packs to see if there's a new feature I can add to mine.

I have a question here. What does the ambientlight.png image in /mcpatcher/colormap do?

As always, this pack is simply awesome

You mean specific threads in the suggestions subreddit?

Well, this is the official Minecraft suggestion subreddit, moderated by Jeb and Dinnerbone themselves: https://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions/
Minecraft subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft
Mojangstas' tweets can be easily findable.
That's all I can found. Hope it helps.
Btw, I personally think that our biggest point are the 2294 pages there are in this thread. We are not just a bunch of people who came out of nowhere.

Could you give us permission to use them in our packs, please?
