Jul 31, 2010I seemed to get really lucky yesterday when looking for dungeons(for the gold records), I used a world I had created earlier but wasnt attached to, and gave myself diamond tools etc with invedit, then I proceeded to search for dungeons......in my search, I swear I uncovered more then 15 diamonds.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
I have never found that many in such a short time before, and I just happend to do it in a world that was useless finding diamond in(I didn't even mine the diamond, I just dug around it to see how big the veins were)
Jul 31, 2010Ill be hosting a server, most likely it will be public though, I also plan to be creating my own plugins, just depends on what the plugins have access to.Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
But yeah, essentially, the people actually posting on here is only a small part of the community, there will be plenty of public servers, and chances are, once SMP is released, sales will also go up even further, as I am sure some people are holding off buying the game until there is multiplayer, I know a friend who really hates playing SP(and judging by other posts on the forums, alot of other people are the same).

I find it kinda funny now that you bring it up, I love pork and a bread is fine too, but hate mushrooms......
I think their rarity is fine, you can still find them, but usually you just stumble upon some, you cant really "hunt" for them, which imo is ideal.
(also, you cant eat sheep, only pigs...)
However, we do have eggs now......and milk

What the ****. Notch isn't lucky. He's ****ing awesome at what he does. NOT the same thing.
Good job Notch!
Honestly, I was more refering to what ive witnessed while Notch was watching the brocraft stream, the guy streaming kept finding diamond, like, everywhere, even if Notch, himself, isn't lucky, he certainly seems to provide others with luck...

I find it's so rare I make a sword out of it, and stockpile the rest... for more swords. A diamond pickaxe just gets burnt up too easily to be worth the effort!
I assume you have used one after Notch bumped their uses up by 4x? or was it 8x? I forget, but they last alot longer now then they used to
Jul 30, 2010I dunno why people have a hard time finding anything like diamonds, I guess just looking in the wrong locations, I did a stream yesterday where I started with a new map, a friend(he only just bought Minecraft) started in an awesome spot so he sent me the world and I streamed it, and I ended up finding 3 or so diamonds, but the main thing is you will be able to see exactly how and where I found diamonds, but only if you're patient, its a rather lengthy video, you can of course skip through it until I get down to the cave where I find the diamonds and should still get the gist of where to look exactly(and how to get there).Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
I still recommend skipping 11 minutes in though at least, the first part I was just showing how to locate hidden stuff under the sand, and then getting the World from my friend and loading it, then realizing Notch had just put an update on, checking the blog and being disappointed at no blog post.
Jul 28, 2010Not sure how useful something like this is, but recorded it to help out a friend, its a [rather lengthy(28min)] tutorial video, shows off quite a bit, and starts with a newly generated world, going over the basics of getting started, while sharing helpful advice like not digging directly below you(I actually had a good example in the video :tongue.gif:), watching for dark overhangs etcPosted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
It is kind of crappy quality video, and its completely adhoc(unscripted) so I kind of mumble my words a little, but if its useful I could maybe put it on youtube for better linking/embedding
Jul 28, 2010Thought I would just share this here, its from my livestream(just used it as a quick and cheap way to record it, I own fraps but meh didn't feel like having to encode it), so the quality is poor, but I think it gets the job done for new players, especially those unable to find iron/diamond, especially unable to find redstone, I share random tips throughout the video, and even luckily uncover some gold...suprisingly, despite playing on hard, and hearing monsters, I never have to fight any....Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player

There is no one named Atomizer
Edit: Whoops, yes there is. I didn't know anyone else had that avatar.
Its cool :smile.gif:
And I managed to get 2 spawners before Notch disabled picking them up, and the only trapping I have done is digging pitholes around the base of a spawn room from below, ive tried creating a water trap in a cave before but when I finally got a zombie to come to it, it didnt work :/
Jul 27, 2010Posted in: DiscussionQuote from The_Fool76 »Quote from Tokidoki »The stacks don't actually cap at 64.
If you cheat you can run around 127 of any item. At the point you make it 128 and log off/in, you get a blank block that seemingly lasts forever (until you log off/on again).
So the real ingame limit is 128, however the hud can display numbers as high as 99999 if you use cheat engine.
And 127 is the max positive value you can have with an signed char.
64 was probably picked because it's a decent amount and because it's a factor of 4.
(Since you get 4x for a lot of the crafting plans)
signed = +/-
unsigned = 0 - ###
And yeah, factor of 4 seems like a safe bet, because I was playing around in the original survival test yesterday, blocks stacked upto 99
Jul 27, 2010Recently my computer has began rebooting while playing minecraft, causing the worlds to be lost, instead of trying to find out whats wrong with my computer, now I just keep constant backups of my worlds and save and exit on a regular basis so I can keep playing..... ^Posted in: Alpha - Survival Single Player
Jul 26, 2010Posted in: DiscussionQuote from M1kk3l109 »Quote from Corvak »64 = 0100 0000 in binary, Now you can represent 64 with a minimum of 7 bits. A full byte can hold a maximum number of 128.
So 64 wasn't chosen due to variable sizes, and I can only assume that Notch wanted to instead limit how much stuff someone could be running around with in survival mode, else we'd be carting around stacks of 128. Very possible it also has to do with the size of the numbers in relation to each inventory square (3 digits would look cluttered).
2^8 -1 = 255, not 128
1000 0000 = 128
1111 1111 = 255
You are both right, kinda, unsigned byte can hold 0 to 255
But a signed byte can hold -128 to 127
A signed byte cannot hold 128 since the last bit is the sign flag, so the maximum is 0111 1111 = 127
and minimum becomes 1000 0000 = -128

I wouldn't remove any. They all fulfill a role to me.
Cow = Milk + Leather (when milk becomes useful)
Pigs = Pork
Sheep = Cloth (when cloth becomes useful again).
Creepers = OH NO MY WALL NO LONGER PROTECTS ME
Skeletons = THIS LARGE AMOUNT OF DISTANCE IS NO LONGER A SAFE THING
Zombies = ****MANTHEYHAVESOMUCHHEALTH
Slimes = OH GOD THEY'RE EVERYWHERE
Im suprised noone has responded to this, I lold, I lold so much my sides hurt..
I also agree, I would not remove any of them, and I haven't even muted the cows, and I can hear them while I am in my underwater base(not intended to be underwater, but it is now...)
Assuming everything stayed the way it is now, Sheep are the only useless mobs right now, oh wait, slimes too now, I guess, since you cant seem to do anything with their slime yet
