You can't get all the mushroom blocks anymore? I haven't tried silk touching them since 1.4.7. Awww the mushroom stems fit in so well with any builds I did with spruce logs. They went so well together.

If you're careless, chances are you're going to die anyway even in the current Minecraft (you just have to be pretty damn careless). Once you get iron and especially diamond armor, you're not going to die easily at all unless you're careless or get unlucky.

Armor is so OP that this armor nerf would have done more balancing than all the recent difficulty changes (rapid fire skeletons, zombies, etc). Armor is THAT OP, and you can get iron insanely quickly making everything up until the Nether a joke, and even then it makes the Nether a lot easier. The only thing that actually needs diamond armor is the Wither, as iron is good enough for most purposes and going up a tier is a bit overkill (and it's not like the Wither is hard at all, it's just that iron armor doesn't cut it).

I wouldn't say an annoyance. Damage is already scaled by difficulty, anyway, the only reason difficulties mostly don't matter any more is because armor can tank the extra damage now.

I'd say that it was more balanced before the armor change (or at least not OP) but enchantments are definitely overkill for anything but PvP (and that's only because other people will have enchantments in PvP).

Has normal mode really fallen by the wayside? As it stands, there's next to no difference between Easy and Normal because difficulty changes are either hard-exclusive or universal. I can understand maybe buffing armor on Easy, but mobs do more damage on Normal and Hard.

If you didn't know, it actually used to be this way. Back then, armor wasn't nearly as useful as while it did start out being as good as present-day diamond armor it didn't stay that way for long. (I actually never used it, as back then caves were harder to come across and I am primarily a spelunker so I was short on iron usually... especially since I was on a server with plugins that allowed me to sell that armor and therefore ever-so-slowly make my way towards something more useful than protection I did not need.)

Regarding the actual topic and not just replying to people: Yes, I 100% support the armor change, but I don't see a damage nerf as necessary unless damage is nerfed on Hard and buffed on Easy. IMO, adding more and more difficult mobs to the later areas would be a better alternative as there would be things that could actually take the damage you would be dealing. (Alternatively, a more skill-based combat system that the mobs make use of, but that's wishful thinking and would not be as useful for this specific issue.)

Well said. I never knew it used to be that way where damaged armor wasn't as effective. Was that during beta or even further back than that? I always think that in order to make the combat harder making mobs hit harder is the last thing to do so it's not so tough on those just starting out.

The armor and damage and mod stats was perfectly balanced before enchantments rolled around. Think a combination of the current system and armor's protection degrading with it's durability would balance this a bit.

Armor's protection degrading according to how low the durability gets? Sounds interesting. Though it couldn't be too drastic of an effect to the protection or they would have to be repairing their armor every second.

This should be scaled with difficulty (starting with no change in easy mode), otherwise it's just an annoyance.

Now that I think of it, it should probably be only for hard actually. Since most of the things in the updates that made the game harder was put into hard mode only.

I'm very anxious to see how you would do that.

Though I do see where you're coming from, you gotta have a wider view when talking about this kind of stuff. Not everyone in the world will be as experienced with the game as you are. Not everyone will have the same playstyle as you, and even if your nerfs were implemented, you can have people out there going "nope, it needs a bigger nerf."

Even though I agree how easy the game can be, I recommend leaving armor and weapons alone. Especially since zombies and skeletons got those buffs. And you know, there is hardcore mode.

It's not so much about making the game harder, it's more about how Mojang chooses to make it harder if they do. I'm not someone who wants to decide how hard the game is. If they want to make it harder, then that's fine but make it somewhat equally hard for a player starting off and a player with god armor.

The extra difficulty added to zombies was really to challenge everyone. I took zombies and other mobs as a joke and never really paid attention to my surroundings at night in the previous updates, now I have to keep on my toes, armor or not.

I still take zombies as a joke unless I'm starting a new world. To me they're still incredibly easy with my armor but whenever I start a new world now I really can't survive. Even when I'm not cautious A horde of zombie gets a few hits on me but then I just jump back a bit and take them all out easily. With those few hits I can't really get hurt that much with armor on but with no armor those few hits would kill me.

Good reason, wrong crowd. People may flame you, so brace yourself.

I like what your getting at but I'm not sure nerfs are nessecary. Player skill is truly nessecary for the best experience, so I'm borderline on the entire idea.

I can take care of flamers.

    Introduction
When's the last time you died to something whether it be a mob or just nature with enchanted diamond armor on? The answer is usually a very long time ago. Mojang has realized how easy the game was getting with all that armor so they balanced it with hordes of zombies, zombies spawning in help, baby zombies, rapid fire skeletons, and spiders with potion effects.

I'm fine with making things more balanced but not in this way. The problem is with the way they are balancing the game is by adding more and more things to the mobs to be able to actually make it a challenge to armored players. This has helped some with the problem but not enough because for a player just starting out it's almost impossible not to die many, many times but once they get good armor they can jump into a huge horde of mobs and take them all out with ease. I think this can be fixed by nerfing the mobs in some way or another and also nerfing the players enchants he puts on the armor and protection of the armor.

    Armor
All armor(or maybe just diamond) would have 15% less protection.
First of all, all protection enchants should protect at least 10% less if not more excluding fire protection.

    Weapons
Like the armor, weapons would have 15% less effectiveness.
The sharpness for swords is incredibly powerful. It instantly kill most mobs at it's highest level. Sharpness should be brought back 10% effectiveness at least.

Power is very powerful as well. Like sharpness it kills most of the mobs instantly so I think it needs to be nerfed 10% as well.

Smite is a very powerful enchant as it deals damage to undead mobs which would be zombies and skeletons, the toughest common mobs in the game as of now. This enchantment would need to be nerfed 10% like the power and sharpness enchants.

    Overview
So what I'm saying is that mobs are getting too powerful for players starting off but still nearly as easy for the players who have the fully enchanted diamond armor and really powerful weapon enchants. Keep in mind that I would only want these enchants added if thee mobs would be nerfed some as well. Maybe zombies shouldn't spawn in extra help, skeletons shouldn't rapid fire, and maybe baby zombies should actually burn in the sunlight like regular zombies. Tell me what you think.

    Quote from ReptileHL

well, i think it should be if 2 diff. coloured glass were placed on 2 different sides of glowstone, it should make both colours
    ex:-
red on a side while green is on another side = one side would make red light, while the other would make green light ;)
i also think that it would be a great mod, if you ever make it, can i add it to my modpack?

I was wondering which side would dominate over the other if there was an odd number of blocks between them. Which color would get the middle block?

Harder than you think bro... :/

I know it'd be hard to do but if they rewrite the lighting system it would open opportunities for the colored glass as well as many other things that have to do with lighting.

posted a message on New Zombies are Over Powered
I've always thought that they should try to nerf things instead of adding more things to combat how overpowered the armor and enchants in the game are. When a player is just starting off they're probably going to die over and over until they get the OP armor. If they just brought down the power of the armor and not bring up the power of the mobs players just starting off would actually be able to survive. People with enchanted diamond armor wouldn't be able to jump into a horde of 50 mobs and take them all out with only losing a few hearts. Things would be balanced for the player just starting and the player who's been there for a while.
