I'm really looking for someone to play TerraFirmaCraft with me. I've spun off a pack from the official modpack that adds some more transportation options; the mod is really best when played multiplayer. I just got to the late copper age in my survival world, I'm preparing to enter the bronze age here pretty soon but winter is coming, and I should really finish thatching my roof before the snows arrive. A barn for my sheep would be nice, too. Fortunately, I spent some time building a nice cellar so my ample food supply should easily last the harsh winter to come.

The modpack isn't for the faint of heart; it's challenging and kind of slow paced, but its high points are really high. I've never played a modpack that made me feel as accomplished and excited as when I made my first pickaxe, found a certain type of rock, or completed my autumn harvest for the first time. Let me know if you're interested and we can figure out the hosting from there!

posted a message on This is why raids are not enjoyable

Fighting out in the open, especially against flying enemies, seems tough to me. I'd utilize some towers, pillboxes, and other defenses to combat vexes specifically, although they would work great in general defense as well. Raids are meant to be tough! Running in swinging a sword isn't always the best.

Playing Minecraft Since: Beta 1.8.1, Late 2011. I remember reading about the pre-releases for the Lost Update, the Minecon 2011 hype, and the 1.0 release. Been in and out of the game since.

I enjoy building in survival, mostly. I prefer big, elaborate structures with a lot of detail and colorful blocks, although I don't consider myself to be an expert by any means. I enjoy some friendly competition with things like city-building, not really into PvP survival, although casual matches are fun. Construction, transportation, and trading are my favorite things to do.

I've been into custom maps (thank you Worldpainter) for a long time, as it allows me to have more diverse landscapes, strategic material locations (think big ore mines), and an overall sense of realism. Running my own server with a few people online now!

Looking for one last hurrah before the Forums go. Anyone game?

I'm running a custom data pack that makes the stone age more interesting, adds a copper age, and adds a steel age, among other various tweaks. I'm hoping to build a small community to play with over the summer and hopefully continue with year-round.

posted a message on How long do Minecraft servers survive?

Having managed multiple servers since I bought Minecraft in '11, I'd say (from personal anecdote) that servers las anywhere from a few weeks to a few years, depending on management, player interest, and time of year. Most of my servers ran for 3-5 months over summers when my friends could play, although I ran one for over a year until I got my first job (which, not by coincidence, was running Minecraft servers!). It's really up to you, and how you interact with the community in and out of the game.

One big thing, I'll add, is that most people shy away from hosting and pay unreasonable fees for hosting their own servers just so they can say "I have a server". Don't do that. Either host yourself (use Hamachi if you're not keen on port forwarding) or find a community that already exists, and get your friends to join you there.

posted a message on Is EULA still in effect?
    Quote from HunPalaw»

What about if a server has been up for a few years before the EULA was around? Or if it was already around, mostly took effect? I did report this server I mentioned, but nothing has happened yet. I reported it about 2 days ago. Would it just take time for it to Mojang to read the message?

They have to deal with a lot of legal. Now that they're part of Microsoft, it happens a lot faster, but it's a slow process (people have to actually go out and investigate). The EULA applies to all servers. They had an opportunity to switch to EULA compliance (about three months) and are expected to hold up the standard.

Here's my design for an automated sugarcane harvester. It uses the same materials. I ran into this problem with an initial design as well.

posted a message on New Mob: Terrabot

I like Pandolen's suggestion for the block. Maybe it's a wither-skull-rarity drop, though. Honestly, a drop doesn't have to be too rare or useful. Zombies drop rotten flesh, after all.

It might make for an interesting structure mob for sure. The drops should definitely be improved.
