I have the mods but it keeps downloading as "explorer" file. In my "Downloads" folder it show that it is there and a .jar folder, when I try to open the folder, it opens as an internet explorer window and nothing happens.
So I don't now what to do. I don't know why her computer is insisting on open a .jar file with explorer. I have the latest version of Java, but....but...I don't know what!
You don't need to open the Jar file. You would normally search %appdata% which will bring you to the 'roaming' directory. From here, you should find the .minecraft folder.
Minecraft mods that come in .jar or .zip files will go into the Forge 'mods' folder. You don't need to open or extract the mod contents anywhere or 'launch' the mod file. You can simply drag the mod onto the desktop and then drag the mod into the 'mods' folder.
Come to think of it, I don't think that the "Helpful Villagers" mod is even updated to the 1.9 version of Forge. The most stable release is for the Minecraft version 1.7.10.
The links that IHazFury gave you are very helpful, I suggest you check them out!
