    Hmmm,
    Fire Armor is not working exactly as I'd hoped.
    The m.class file makes it so Fire Armor can not be crafted from fire.
    Don't import the m.class file if you want to be able to make Fire Armor from fire.
    Otherwise it works great.

    The m.class file is a good choice to use with the original rings mod, so chainmail can only be made from rings.
    However, it is not nessasary because there is no way to get fire in the player's inventory unless you use the Fire Armor mod.

    I just tried out the Fire Armor mod, and it works just fine for me.
    (Can't repair Fire Armor with fire yet though)

    I really really would like to be able to make Fire Armor from fire.
    (just like making it from rings, except using fire blocks).

    It's a super simple mod, just one new recipie:
    :RedShroom: :RedShroom: :RedShroom:
    :RedShroom: :RedShroom: :RedShroom: = :VV:
    :RedShroom: :RedShroom: :RedShroom:
    Where :RedShroom: is Redstone dust.

    That will get the fire block into the player's inventory.
    The recipies for crafting Fire Armor (Chainmail) from fire blocks are already in the original game code.
    Just use the fire blocks like rings.
    As a bonus, fire blocks can also be used to light things on fire (but the flint and steel is more economical).

    Repairing it with fire blocks would be cool too.
    And how about a fire bow and fire sword?!!!
    Those would work the same as normal ones, but make things catch fire as well as normal damage.

    I've written (and posted) some code for converting Redstone dust into fire, but can't get anything to compile on my system.
    I'm using MCPbeta as a decompiler.
    Decompile works fine, but when I run the Recompile.bat the directory the new code should be in is empty.
    Can someone compile the code and post the mod, or give me a hint what I'm doing wrong?

    Wooden bucket recipie can not match the iron one because that is the recipie for a wooden bowl.
    I like the idea of changing it to:
    [] :|: []
    :wood: [] :wood:
    :wood: :wood: :wood:
    No string that way.
    String is special, only comes from spiders (or mods).
    So getting your first bow is a challenge because you have to fight a few spiders with a sword.
    If the bucket design also has string then you have to fight spiders to do buckets too.
    Or load a mod that lets you get it from wool (makes getting 1st bow too easy).

    Or, you can just download the stuff I posted Nov 3.
    That already has an image file with the rings, eggs, cheese and a lot of other items, so you don't have to edit everything yourself.
    It's also got a new skin for chainmail which looks like the picture I'm using in my posts.

    I was mistaken earlier about the 50/50 comment.
    According to the wiki chainmail has the same durability and preforms the same as gold.
    67 hits max. Twice as good as Leather, half as good as iron.
    It is processed like the other armors.
    Playtest seems to confirm.

    Crafting fire blocks into chainmail is already in the game.
    We just need a way to get fire blocks into the player's inventory without using an editor to hack it every time.
    I think all we need is a new recipie: 9 redstone dust into 1 fire block.
    After that, just use the fire blocks to craft Fire Armor (aka chainmail but with new skin).
    Here's what I'm thinking, but have not been able to get it to compile on my system:

    Anyone have any hints about uploading?

    Hey zeRobuRn,

    What did you think about the Fire Armor idea?
    The skin is ready, including overlay to items.png.
    I think it looks pretty sweet.
    This system won't let me post an image, so I'll try another one soon.

    You are the chainmail king, and should get credit for this.
    However, I will write the code too if you don't want to...
    Please let me know.

    Nice, you rock!

    Here is an idea though:
    Iron is most usefull for carts, rails, and buckets.
    And, there is too much redstone, plus no way to make a redstone block like you can for iron, gold, and diamond.
    Can you make it so we can compile 9 redstone into a fire block?
    That way we can use 'em as moltove cocktails, or crafting armor as per the original glitch for making chain.
    Then a Fire skin for the new armor to top it off.
    The Fire skin makes sense becaue Fire armor (chain) works different than the other armors.
    According to the wiki all damage comes off chain first, then the player, instead of the 50-50 split other armors use.

    That would be awesome! I'd be happy to help with the skin if you do the code.
