I had the same reaction, Suho.
And I still think that the furthest away from any "pokemon" aspect, the better. Of course that they are mob eggs, and we can already throw chicken eggs, makes it a logical thing that we will be able to somehow throw eggs on mobs to capture/release them and this itself is similar to pokemon. But maybe there's something original that can be used to capture them instead of throwing eggs.

An idea to possibly limit the deadliness of hostile mob eggs would be that the mob eggs in survival will always spawn the "child" of the mob. Like a mini creeper which does zero environmental damage or something and you will have to wait for it to "grow up" before it become deadly. People might be bothered to wait, but at least it won't be that deadly.

That's genius!! And we already have some child mobs like zombies in the code, just not in vanilla :D

To me it just look like they wanted some sort of challenge exclusively for people wanting to branch mine for emerald ore.
So yeah, you want to poke holes in the entire extreme hill biome in search for emeralds? Expect some resistance!

But in reality, I haven't heard of a single player who branch mine for emeralds, they are just a bonus for caves/mineshafts in said biome.
The way villager trading works nowadays just makes emerald ores from the hills totally worthless. Unless you want them for decoration.

If you PsychoIncarnate was the first to have that idea, then Kudos to you! I think is a great idea... and I'm glad Etho thought of that as well, as I'm pretty sure that it would take a lot longer for it to be noticed by Dinnerbone/Jeb if not said by Etho himself and spammed by his massive fanbase.

Anyway, I'm not worried about balance, as it can be pretty easy to balance that feature (Etho gives some ideas in his video on how to balance it).
What worries me is the chaos on servers, with people capturing creepers and throwing them at peoples houses to blow them up, or capture hundreds of skeletons and filling an enemy house with them... stuff like that. Surely some servers would come up with ways of preventing that, some already have explosions disabled, and plugins for egg-spawns could be created/used.

But I think that even in vanilla the eggs should have some sort of protection against mass-hatching or something. I don't know, maybe they would only hatch on specific conditions, or have some sort of timer for hatching... maybe something like that.

One Idea I can think now is that you must put the egg on a furnace and cook it (maybe it can only be cooked with a bucket of lava?) and after it finishes cooking the mob spawns in front of the furnace. :)

posted a message on Possible "Sound Packs" in the game?... C418's Tweets

I won't jump to conclusions, but this is a pretty fair indication that sound-packs are coming, I think. This would be especially good for adventure maps.

Yeah, it's not like C148 said "soundpacks" or something like that... he just said "an option".
I did my best to be impartial and list some possibilities for said option, according to the way the game works right now.
Of course sound packs is for me the coolest of those possibilities, and I guess it is for the majority of people that like to be able to customize the game in any way they want (or bring back old characteristics).

He said 5 people in Etho's video have suggested it (meaning people that have posted comments, not Etho himself). You're making it sound like you're the one that came up with the idea first and that Dinnerbone should give you credits for it...

Etho himself suggested it in his latest video.

This makes me wonder, who is the artist responsible for making the textures of the game?

Whoever he/she is, must be sad never be recognized.... or people prefering to use texture packs.

But customization is one of the success keys of Minecraft anyway.
Hard or not to make a sound pack, the player should at least have the option to change it (impossible nowadays without mods).

posted a message on Possible "Sound Packs" in the game?... C418's Tweets
Again a new updated aspect of the game divided the community...The new sounds, just like the new food textures, came to replace the old ones for good. But with textures, people who disliked the change had an option: Texture Packs. The same doesn't work with sounds, as the game checks the original files every session and re-downloads the original sounds if changes are detected.

    But recently C418 tweeted:

"if you want the old sounds back, don't worry. There's going to be an option for that very soon."

(thanks for user "magicferret" for pointing that out)

This is how the game checks for replaced files:
    Quote from InsanityBringer

It downloads an XML file from http://s3.amazonaws....ecraftResources, checks what files are on disk, and then compares their file size to the entry in the sound index. If they are different, it redownloads the sound, and then adds the entry to a list so that it can then be used by the game.

A simple design, really, hailing from when Minecraft was played exclusively in a web browser.

Now the questions, now that the game is not exclusively a web browser, does it really have to check every time for original sound files?

Does C418's tweet means a menu option, the removal of said XML checking method, or a new SoundPack mechanic that works the same as TexturePacks (using .rar files)?

I'd love SoundPack integration into vannila, after all:
-Don't like the new sounds? Use a old sound pack!
-Adventure maps could use custom sounds, (just like custom textures), without having to resort to mods.
-People could customize and use their own desirable sounds for the game,
-Simple and quick way of enjoying ambience sounds, just like MATMOS mod.
    -etc.

UPDATE: New Tweet from C418 (sept. 21) - Thanks rbailey5 for the heads up!

"I am going to murder the next person that asks me to revert Minecraft sounds back. You will be able to do that soon enough. Now scram."

Ask Mojang to add the option of SoundPacks.

If people want to be attached to old sounds, let them be. There's nothing wrong with it.

The fact that the game forces the new sounds on you, whether you like them or not is the problem here.
You can't simply change the sounds, as Minecraft redownloads the originals when it detects that you have changed them.
People who don't like the new food textures can use texture packs to revert them, but right now the game doesn't let you do the same with sounds.
This is the larger problem IMO.

Thanks for the info! I don't think it would be hard for the community to get used to soundpacks though... I mean, people already know that they must use .png with transparent backgrounds as the format of your custom textures, so if Mojang specified that the sounds must be encoded in .ogg format to be recognized, people would quickly get used to it.

    Quote from magicferret

C418 tweeted that we'll be able to opt to use the old sounds soon so it looks like our wishes will be at least partially fulfilled.

Uhmmm, but I don't think he would add the soundpack idea specifically, after all it requires Jeb to make the game able to recognize .rar files with sounds in it.

    Quote from Nincognito

Or.... if that's too much to download, there could be a download on the website for the three major sound changes, for people who want whatever.

Old sounds, Current sounds, and the 1.4 sounds that are coming soon.

You don't have to worry about Mojang making the soundpacks... I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take long for the community bring back those original sets of sounds. I mean, we already have MCNostalgia!

While I don't agree with your argument, I do think that Minecraft should accept "sound packs" as easily as it accept texture packs.

Don't like it, use a old sound pack.
Adventure maps could use custom sounds, (just like custom textures), without having to resort to mods.
People could customize and use their own desirable sounds for the game,
    etc.

I find it ridiculous that If I replace a sound file in the sounds folder with another sound with exactly the same codec, size, name, etc, and Minecraft still redownloads the original ones and erases the one I put there.
I wonder, how the hell does the game knows that it is a different sound... or does it redownload everytime you play the game.

In this case, time doesn't heal the open wound... you just get used to the pain.

But like the guy responded after I said that, it's too much a small thing for such a dramatic phrase.
