posted a message on Stained Glass (Now Colored Sand)
Has a GetSatisfaction post been made for this yet? Stained glass would be a simple and brilliant addition to an already excellent crafting system. The possibilities would be near endless--and frankly, I officially have my cathedral designed. Let's see it happen!

posted a message on Blood Creeper
    Okay, right. Here we go.

I have absolutely nothing against Creepers. I wrote an entire short essay about how the Creeper adds to the Minecraft experience, and I would mourn were our standard green beastie ever to be nerfed or, worse, removed. Please keep this in mind reading the following statement:

We do NOT need a more powerful Creeper, certainly not one that could obliterate the average base in a single blast. We like it as it is--leave the Creepers be.

This could be an interesting concept--unfortunately, so are many other "realms" that people are suggesting, and that's a lot of portals to be made (or high mountaintops to create...take your pick). Perhaps a multi-destination portal could be made and operated by Redstone or somesuch mechanic...or maybe the destination could be changed by tossing different items into the portal...

posted a message on Funnels - Automatically filling your chests
The funnel is a good idea, but I agree with Soren515 that the Redstone wire idea is not. However, my reason is different: the concept is simply too futuristic. If the funnel could be made to blend with Minecraft's tech level, then it would certainly be a nice convenience. Additionally, while I find the wiring idea to be "against the rules," I don't think a straight downward shaft would be, so items could be deposited in an underground chest from the surface using a funnel directly above said chest, or somesuch similar formation.

posted a message on Creepers have GOT to go away at sunrise
The fact of the matter is that Creepers are a Minecraft staple, and add a constant feeling of looming threat to the world. During day one, yes, there's little to no motivation to do much of anything--until nightfall arrives and you realize what a fool you've been, tanning on the beach when there are monster hordes waiting to ambush you in the dim moonlight. After that, everything moves along quite swiftly, and when we begin to forget why we're working so hard to build good fortifications, our good friend the Creeper pops up from behind a wall to remind us.

Let's face it--all of us love and hate the Creeper. They pock our plains with unsightly craters, chase after us with grim determination to simply blow us to Kingdom Come, and destroy our fortresses as though they were little more than houses of cards. Yet that little adrenaline-laced thrill that we feel upon seeing one, and the sense of relief and accomplishment upon slaying one simultaneously offer immersion in the Minecraftian world and achievement within it as we learn to deal with the eternal threat, and slowly overcome it. And then if one pops up at our doorstep and makes a pretty little dent in our structure? Well, we shouldn't have let our guard down.

Creepers frustrated me to no end when I was first starting out, too, but now it's greatly satisfying to narrowly evade the imminent explosion, and better still to evade it by slaying the fiend and collecting the spoils--and yes, I still hate it when one ambushes me at an inconvenient moment, but it drives me to play the game as a real survivor would: peeking around corners and maintaining constant vigilance. Minecraft isn't fun because it's safe--it's fun because it isn't, and that's the way that it should stay.

If you disagree with me, then play on Peaceful difficulty, pansy. :SSSS:

posted a message on New Metal Idea: Infinium
    Quote from Tuqui »
Really nice idea, I like it, well balanced, i still don't know about the core, sounds interesting but I'm sure something more medieval can be created, maybe a infinium hourglass? Just saying to keep the atmosphere of the game.

As other people have before me, I fully agree. However, the core may yet work, were it to be implemented in the right way; perhaps it could be related to the pre-existing Redstone circuitry... But yes, either way, this could be fun.

...And a glowing green hourglass? Badass.

Forgive me for how shallow this must sound, but I'm all for this due to my twin appreciations of clock-work and literacy.

Forgiven, Marcus, in part because I am inclined to follow suit. This would be a fun addition to an already spectacular game.

posted a message on Regenerative Armor
    Quote from muncher21 »
    No.

Regenerating health is a bad game mechanic in general.
    1. It doesn't make sense. I hide for 20 seconds and suddenly the zombie bite on my arm stitches up? Eating food to heal makes more sense then this.
    2. Encourages waiting for your health to heal. Or as a great game critic put it "Hiding behind walls waiting for the blood to fall off your face"
    3. really overpowered. Kill a bear and then wait a minute. boom 4 hearts. Way to fast healing and the risk/reward ratio is way out of wack.

I'm as great a fan of ZP as you are, I'm sure, but I don't think that this applies. Perhaps the healing could be slowed even a tad more, but I still remember the terror I experienced a few days' journey from my main fortress, down to half a heart after an unfortunate creeper strike, with my inventory stocked with rare supplies that I couldn't find near my spawn point. Or what about those times when you're down by a single heart and don't want to waste food, but hate to walk around with a tenth of your health gone? Some form of regeneration would fix that. It would certainly take much of the agony out of spelunking in monster-ridden caves more than the allotted five minutes away from your spawn point, while still keeping the challenge (you have to slay or dash your way through the enemies before you can hole up, of course). I, for one, think that this idea for regeneration is as good as any, and probably better than most.

posted a message on Magic! In a Minecraft-style way!
I confess that I was concerned upon seeing the topic; many have tried to suggest completely unrealistic plans. Now that I've actually read the idea, I must say, I'm impressed. This just might work--and I'd love to see it happen.

posted a message on A legitimate way to get Chainmail
I'm going to have to agree with pokefan4433, though I've been playing for a slightly shorter time: spider jockeys are obscenely rare. I've actually never seen one in any of my generated worlds. Even upon finding one, I have to say that getting a skeleton to kill a creeper is a feat in itself; getting a faster-moving skeleton to kill a slower-moving zombie seems like it should balance out, but I highly doubt that it will. Finding the chainmail in dungeons could be good, though, and maybe there could be some way to craft it from more than just iron so that it doesn't become overpowered...perhaps an obsidian element?

posted a message on I believe I've solved the "Limited Ore" problem
While I have to agree with prior comments concerning the infinite supply of ore (with enough applied footwork, anyhow), I still think that this could be a fun addition to the game. It's plenty exciting to find a vein of ore in the ground; to find a meteorite containing ore would be a similar or greater thrill. Perhaps there could be an element that could only be found this way, too, maybe even something to unlock a whole new way to play...

posted a message on Old Detailed Turret
If the artillery idea is too "high-tech," at the very least something of this sort could be made to shoot arrows; a ballista of sorts, if you will. That could even use the Dispenser that was recently introduced; all that would be needed to make it into a turret would be a turntable and a way to adjust the vertical angle of fire.

I see no reason why not. At the very least, I'd like the ability to plant more of a particular kind of tree if I so choose.

As for the apples, perhaps once in a very rare while an apple tree could be found; they should be rare treats, I say...
